Ibuprofen for fever

Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen for fever

ibuprofen

I also took a bunch of Advil before I knew i was pregnant, for a high fever. I was worried about the Advil AND the fever, and baby was fine with both. The biggest effect of Ibuprofen is in the last trimester. It affects the kidney/urine output of the fetus, which results in lower amniotic fluid levels. It can also thin your blood, which can increase the risk of heavy bleeding during delivery and after. Your OB will tell you the same thing.
The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day. The same thing happened last year when I took ibuprofen for a sprain, but at the time I never associated it might be from the Ibuprofen. I don't have any health problems and don't have any other symptoms. Can this be a side effect of Ibuprofen in otherwise healthy Kidneys or is this something I should get checked out? Thanks.
have tried ibuprofen and paraersavcetamol, give ibuprofen 2 hours after giving paracetamol, you should take baby to the doctors with a temp this high its dangerous, if it gets any higher theres irriversaveble damage to all organs, 15 days is far too long to have a fever? have you been to the doctors?
why not just use liquid ibuprofen or tylenol?
If you're ok-ed to take ibuprofen or tylenol, you should take those to keep your temp down and yourself more comfortable. For me (never been pregnant), a fever of over 100 while taking ibuprofen or tylenol or a fever that keeps coming back over 3 or 4 days would have me in to see the doctor.
Saturday might have been your doctor's time for reviewing test results. Please don't assume the worst. How long have you had the fever?
I woke up this morning with 102 fever feeling awful I had called my dr on Friday with a bad cough and alot of thick yellow sputum and he put me on a antibotic I spent the whole day in bed yesturday and I don't think there is anything else he could do for me and I have a appointment tomorrowj Because I am on blood thinners I checked with the dr if I could take ibuprofen that is the only thing that helps when I have a fever.
If you have a fever go and see your Dr or midwife as that isn't good for the baby either, especially during first trimester as that is the most dangerous time for baby. And don't take the ibuprofen it has been linked to low birth weight and miscarriage.
Took DD 15 months, today to the doc after going on 48 hours of fever and diareahh...Good news is though she did show a red throat, she tested negative for strep. She just has a nasty bug I guess... My big question though is ..does Ibuprofen make toddlers hyperactive? She has been sooo hyper and I have had a hell of a time trying to put her to sleep. Is there a fever reducer that is either sugar free or doesn't make the child so darned hyper?
Dr said I could take up to 1500 mg a day of either for fever n aches. I only have 1 kidney n somehow have it in my head not to use acetaminophen. I'm using children's Motrin. Any advice here? Karen :) thanks guys..
I also developed nausea over the last 3 weeks after taking a lot of ibuprofen for sudden joint pain in my fingers which was very severe. I am 68 yrs old but this is the first time I have had continuous pain in my fingers and hands like this. I also have interstitial cystitis and take Lortabs for that. They don't help the joint pain (much). Ibuprofen did help it but then I got this daily nausea that comes and goes, better after eating.
This has never happened when taking regular Motrin for aches/pains/fever/etc. Should I presume this will always happen when taking motrin? Will benadryl continue to be a source of relief for this issue?
I mentioned this to my PCP once and he said Ibuprofen has many effects on the body, it's not just a fever reducer/pain reliever so it very well could be effecting the heart. It makes me wonder if it has anything to do with blood pressure (although mine is usually very low 90/60). Any thoughts?
Tylenol or Ibuprofen............for myself, taking Tylenol is of no benefit. Ibuprofen is the only over the counter pain med. that will take away headaches for me. Thankfully, 1 - 200 mg. handles it, and thankfully, I have not had too many headaches on tx and now post.
I was taking 3 600mg tablets of ibuprofen a day to combat the pain and fever. I did this every day for a week. When the fever didn't get better, I went back to the doctor (Sept 27). He ran a bunch of blood tests. (It turned out what I have is a sinus infection which has gotten better with Levaquin). But my doctor calls and says all the tests on September 27 were fine except my liver counts were high for SGOT, SGPT, and Alkaline Phosphatase.
Along with children's Ibuprofen to aid in keeping the fever down. Having a consistent fever for more then 48 hours is dangerous for your child so I would hope that your doctor gave you similar advice for the fever and ran more test to find out the cause. Good luck to you and your little girl.
My 6 year old son has had a fever now for four days.. Ibuprofen lowers his temp for about an hour then his fever comes back.. He has absolutely no appetite, doesn't even want to drink.. He throws up whatever we struggle to get in him.. He has a sore throat and he's pretty weak.. I took him to the Dr. on Thursday. She checked for strep throat and the flu, they were both negative. She prescribed him zithromax and he's been on it now for four days.. Please help..
I just turned fourteen on may 6, and for the past week since then I have had a fever at around 101. The fourth day they took blood and tested it for anything wrong, they found nothing. My body after the seventh day now aches on the sides of my neck and my arms. I have had a runny nose since the first day. Whenever I wake up my mom gives me a motrin and my fever still stays at around 100 or 99 but I feel fine... then at around 8 I completely crash. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with me?
I have had 101.5 fever for 4 days now. I called my doctor and he called me in a z-pac. I was so weak I could even get up out of the bed. when I stood up for a little bit, I would have to sit back down and do things really slow. I hope the z-pac don't make me sicker, I think I was having an upper resptory infection. Has this happened to any one. Feeling dizzy right now.
Since yesterday I am running high fever 103-104f which does not come down without cold sponging, and is not responding to paracetamol/ibuprofen. I got blood work done for CBC/ESR, LFT, malarial parasite, typhoid/widal etc. All normal/negative. Could this be ARS? I also have a horrible headache and my appetite has fallen to shockingly low levels. I am barely able to eat 1/5th of what I usually eat.
It's a better fever reducer than the ibuprofin, anyway. Fever is usually in responce to the interferon shot but should be watched for signs of infection related to low neutrophils.
I'm a 36 years old male. I have been running a fever of 101.5 for the past 2 weeks. No other side effects except for chills (sometimes) and being tired and achy back. Fever usually comes in the afternoon. I take ibuprofen to keep it down.- it works but the very next day same thing all over. Went to the doctor. I had chest X-ray – came out good. Had blood test –good as well. I’m kind of desperate here. Anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciete.
just had my 2 year old at the drs for a check following a fever and told him I'd used calprofen ( children's ibuprofen ) initially when trying to bring his temperature down. He hit the roof!!! He said ibuprofen is proven to cause kidney damage and should NOT be made for children at all, he's on quite a mission to ban it. Just thought i'd let you guys know. fortunately, i'd only given my lad 2.5ml dose twice and then switched to calpol ( children's paracetemol ) as it wasn't working. Dr.
• Acetaminophen and ibuprofen help reduce fever in children and adults. • Take acetaminophen every 4 - 6 hours. It works by turning down the brain's thermostat. Take ibuprofen every 6 - 8 hours. Like aspirin, it helps fight inflammation at the source of the fever. • Aspirin is very effective for treating fever in adults. Do NOT give aspirin to children unless specifically directed by your doctor.
I have had those same chill-attacks (Rigors) and fever for almost 20 years. So I doubt it's dangerous...( or hope it isn't), but no one ever seems to know what I am talking about. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe where you are, go and get him a bottle of Astragalus (Vitamin Shoppe brand is really good!). !!!! Took my Rigors away over night. I was taking three a day, and no chills or fever, but I started sweating badly at night only around my neck. I dropped to two a day and I am fine.
I had liver damage from NSAIDs (Aleve, Ibuprofen) so did not use those myself and probably never will again. Fever is an indicator of infection. Have you checked out why your temp. is up?
She was at the doctor today she got a perscription for Prednasone so were going to try this for the next few fever episodes to see what happens. Did your reoccuring fevers as a child come every month?
It is possible to have one virus followed quickly by another esecially when our immune system is down. so, wait for the x ray and let your doctor know that you are still having the fever and perhaps a stronger antibiotic will be prescribed. Drink extra (double the usual) fluids to keep hydrated. Hope you feel better soon. (oh, and fevers are actually the bodies way of fighting something off. They are unpleasant but there for a reason which is good. Take ibuprofen to relieve symptoms.
I was treated with very strong IV acyclovir (anti viral) and two sets of antibiotics for a secondary infection in my brain I was on strong IV metronidazole and amoxicillin aswell as morphine for pain relief on top of codeine, ibuprofen and paracetamol with cyclizine for anti emetic treatment. My blood pressure was extrmely low as my fluid intake was poor so I was on IV fluids and my pulse dropped as low as 35 one evening.
The NP told me to mix up the acetaminaphen and ibuprofen (not together) for different days when I need something for fever, aches, etc. But what about asprin? What impact does that have on the hep c/liver, etc.?? I'm doing my best not to take anything, however...it is very difficult when one is uncomfortable. Third shot is on Tuesday.
