Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen for cramps

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn The poster will have to decide on her own but I think it is rare for the general population to have an issue with Ibuprofen taken for occasional cramps. I personally would take ibuprofen for a cramp and wouldn't recommend that if I thought it was risky. luck to the poster.
Avatar f tn Is it true you shouldn't take ibuprofen it can harm the baby? I just seen this today while doing research as to this is my first. i have been taking it before I found out I was thinking my period was coming and I've always had bad cramps so I know to start taking it before my period comes to help with the pain. Should I be worried that I've harmed the baby from taking it? I'm 5 weeks BTW.
Avatar f tn I was not able to get an appt. with OBGYN so I went to the ER for my cramps but they just gave me ibuprofen. They also could not see anything in ultrasound so we assumed it was too early. I did misstated with the first pregnancy and I'm worried about the awful cramps which I am taking acetaminophen every 4-6 hours for ... Has anyone else dealt with this before?
Avatar f tn I would be very interested to hear what diabetes specialists have to say on this because prior to this many doctors (fully aware of the type 1 diabetes) recommended daily ibuprofen for various problems such as back pain. Who's right? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who actually had a problem caused by ibuprofen, links to reliable sources of information on the topic, or opinions from professionals.
Avatar f tn t suggest it. Ibuprofen is good but for me Naproxen (aleve) works best for cramps. Also those single use heating pads that are available in the first aid section of the pharmacy are awesome. They last for several hours. They are available specifically for cramps.
Avatar f tn so i usually use a NSAID like Ibuprofen or Pamprin (acetaminophen) once a month for cramps, but I know these are hard on the liver and now that I know i have Hepatitis C is there something else i could take? I menstrual cramps that are unbearable the first few days.
3197728 tn?1377277900 Tylenol is what you can take instead of ibuprofen. acetaminophen is generic for Tylenol like ibuprofen is for motrin.
Avatar n tn The label on my bottle says to not take the tenofovir with ibuprofen. However, I previously asked my doctor if ibuprofen (among many other question I had) would be okay to take alongside it occasionally --- and he said it was no problem. Hmmm. What to believe? The label or the doctor? o_O Any personal experience with the interaction of these two medications?
Avatar n tn Thank you :) , there is none in my house so I have to ask her to buy some
Avatar n tn The first and second days of my period I get HORRIBLE cramps to the point where I want to vomit, can't walk, sleep or do anything. I try ibuprofen and it never helps. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn As the above poster mentioned, Ibuprofen in any of its forms (Advil and Motrin along with some other pain meds--read the label--have ibuprofen) can help with period cramps. For me, acetaminophen (Tylenonl) has always been better. Heating pads can also be of use, but you can't sleep with one. You can make a rice sock (or get one of those pads that have them) to heat in the microwave before bed then utilize that to help as that won't keep heating up all night.
Avatar f tn Just drink longs and lots of water will help and you can take 2 tylenol for the pain is fine during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn do i need to take everyday for cramps because i do not have a man i.e am not preventing pregnancy. Its only cramps and pimples giving me hard time.
Avatar f tn I have horrible menstrual cramps and the only relief i have found is ibuprofen, naproxen etc (Nsaids) but now i have developed stomach ulcers and gastro infections from it. So i I started taking paracetamol, and pretty high doses. But its not working. At all. What can i take for my cramps that works but are not nsaids? Not taking anything is not an option as I litterary wont be able to stand upright from cramps. I do take 80mg nexium a day. Thanks in advance for any help!
363110 tn?1340920419 AF finally came 5 or 6 days late. And I have had HORRIBLE cramps that make me want to cry, and I can't handle having my stomach touched or pushed on because it hurts pretty bad. Any clue why? I'm not on BC or BFing Tj any more. my cycles had been 1 day late each time til this time and this time the cramps SUCK, I have tried Ibuprofen and it helps some, heat.... but that's it..
Avatar f tn I struggle with back pain, leg pain, abdominal cramps, headaches, and stomach aches during my period as well as stabbing ovulation pain and PMS cramps in the weeks leading up to my period. I am stuck taking ibuprofen and Tylenol, but as of recently taking these painkillers seems to be less effective in dealing with my pain. Also, I sometimes get awful nausea after taking ibuprofen. I don’t want to hurt myself with painkillers, but I also don’t want to be in pain all day.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor though as mine has me take up to 4 tablets every 4 to 6 hours (the maximum and what takes it to prescription level). Absolutely makes cramps manageable for me. Ibuprofen comes in a variety of brands from store brand (cheapest and perfectly fine) to Advil to Motrin. There is another OTC medication called alleve that women take as well for cramps. Always best to talk to your doctor first but these options are safe. And they work well.
Avatar f tn My concern is that I had m/c Nov 9 and have had 2 periods since then with really bad cramping, so I have been taking 800mg of ibuprofen for the past 3 months almost! I dont take it every single day, but for the past few weeks I have been taking it every day because of bad headaches and cramps from this AF. I also took 2 today. I definitely am NOT going to take any more. I am on CD11 now but am still spotting from AF.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing awful leg cramps every night. Before I became pregnant I would take ibuprofen but obviously that is a big no no. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I am getting the worse pain ever I have cramps I can't even move because it hurts any suggestions I feel like someone is stabbing me and I am a Virgin I'm 13
Avatar f tn Okay, I KNOW that I remember being told by the liver doctor who performed my biopsy that if I do need to take a pain reliever that I should take Tylenol. My OB/GYN doctor just told me to take Advil for cramps because it isn't metabolized in the liver. I rarely take anything, but if I do, which is less risky? Liver biopsy one year ago found no significant tissue scarring. My recent ALT enzyme levels are slightly lower than before, 61. My other enzyme levels are normal.
Avatar n tn I had the same types of cramps when I was a teen my Dr reccomened the pill. And she I finally got on it ,it helped emensly I would talk to your Dr about it.
Avatar f tn I have had one ultrasound done at age 18 but the doctor did not find anything suspicious. They didn’t diagnose the reason for my heavy period or extreme cramps but just prescribed me the pill qlaira which I took for about a year and a half. It didn’t really help with the cramps but it helped with the heavy period. After I went off the pill my cramps got way worse for a while. Now they are back to how they were before.
Avatar n tn my stomach had a hole in it from all the ibuprofen/vicodin/ponstel I had taken.) I finally had the surgery for it and they removed a lot of endometriosis. Afterward I went on birth control (even though I didn't want to) and I literally had no pain. It's been a year since then and I've had to switch my method of birth control due to adenomyosis (endo of the uterus muscle) from the pill to the shot, and the shot has brought me much more relief (though not for everyone).
2055843 tn?1332427915 Ibuprofen does usually tend to help with these severe cramps, and keep using the heating pads like you have been. If ibuprofen alone doesn't work (it didn't for me) then your doctor will sometimes prescribe a prescription strength painkiller. Also, if you have a primary care doctor or better yet a gynecologist, discuss this issue with them. Sometimes gynecologists will put people on low-dose birth control to alleviate severe dysmenorrhea.
