Avatar m tn According to research institutes, Ibuprofen overdose damages your internal organs like liver. While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have a question. Sometimes I casually contemplate suicide--not very seriously, but more as a curiosity. Yesterday I decided to experiment with what it would be like to take a lot of pills. All I had on hand was ibuprofen, so I took 10,000 mg. It wasn't a suicide attempt, but more of a way to satisfy my curiosity about suicide by OD. However, after doing a little research online, some people seem to think that 10,000 mg can be dangerous.
Avatar f tn Maria is right, get to an ER. You could do serious liver damage, but either way you're going to make your stomach bleed. That's a lot of Ibuprofen.

Avatar n tn They can, preferably with food. You have to be careful about using too much because both medications can be hard on the liver if over-used. Follow your physician's instructions as to dose.
Avatar m tn Which pain med has a more negative effect on the liver after long term use, ibuprofen or darvocet?
7758733 tn?1402589420 Killer headaches, and never any Tylenol around. Ibuprofen can't be that bad huh? Got to go to work and this headache must go.
689265 tn?1251130087 Well, Tylenol is proven to cause liver damage in some patients. If you read the side effects/risks of all medications, they almost all have warnings like this. I always weigh the risk vs benefit before giving my kids any medication. Our ped is ok with us using either ibuprofen or tylenol. Maybe talk to your pharmacist to see what he/she thinks.
1182699 tn?1297574784 Just a quick question about the effects of Ibuprofen on the heart. Sometimes when I feel I'm having a bad "heart" day, either really strong beats followed by weak ones, or my PVC's/PAC's, I will take an advil and I usually start feeling better. I mentioned this to my PCP once and he said Ibuprofen has many effects on the body, it's not just a fever reducer/pain reliever so it very well could be effecting the heart.
1148241 tn?1294052796 Anything you ingest by mouth is eventually going to go through your liver. From what I've read, ibuprofen isn't as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
Avatar f tn Is 3-6 200mg Ibuprofen a day for a 3-6 days a week bad for you over a long period of time?
Avatar f tn Herein, we tested a variety of Cox-1/Cox-2 non-selective NSAIDs, namely ibuprofen, tylenol, aspirin and naproxen and report that they blunt IgM and IgG synthesis in stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Ibuprofen had its most profound effects in inhibiting human PBMCs and purified B lymphocyte IgM and IgG synthesis when administered in the first few days after activation. As shown by viability assays, ibuprofen did not kill B cells.
Avatar f tn Studies have demonstrated that at certain dosages, ibuprofen can stress the liver and elevate liver enzymes in people with Hepatitis C. Ibuprofen must be used with extreme caution in the later stages of liver disease and for those on interferon therapy. 3. Aspirin – (Bayer, Anacin, Excedrin and others) reduces fever, relieves pain, and acts as an anti-inflammatory and blood thinner.
Avatar m tn I am going through the same thing as you are, unfort my numbers were much higher. I suggest melatonin to help you sleep, check with your physician first though. It has helped me but you must find the right dosage for yourself, so your alert in the am.
Avatar f tn Okay, I KNOW that I remember being told by the liver doctor who performed my biopsy that if I do need to take a pain reliever that I should take Tylenol. My OB/GYN doctor just told me to take Advil for cramps because it isn't metabolized in the liver. I rarely take anything, but if I do, which is less risky? Liver biopsy one year ago found no significant tissue scarring. My recent ALT enzyme levels are slightly lower than before, 61. My other enzyme levels are normal.
Avatar f tn Doc cut interferon dose in half last week because of low blood platelets. Have liver enzymes tested on 1/15 see doc again on 1/19. Is there anything we can do to boost platelets back up? Also does anyone else suffer with constant itching (hubby also has eczema which doesn't help). How about headaches? Anything beside ibuprofen to take? Muscle aches - anything to help that - I rub his back every night - anything else I can do?
1323278 tn?1298122488 Acetaminophen far below the toxic dose taken on a daily basis can lead to liver damage. While ibuprofen can upset the stomach, there is a second drug, Cytotec (Misoprostol) that can protect your stomache while taking NSAIDs There are also enteric coated NSAIDs that do not dissolve in the stomach but dissolve in the intestines. We should always let our doctors know all of the medication, including over the counter, herbal supplements, vitamins and other substances (Medical Marijuana?
Avatar m tn 170 My ultrsound for liver and spleen 2 weeks ago was normal. Do I worry unnecessarily? Since I do not have older tests, I do knot know my previous values. I have NAFLD or NASH and I am 35 years old. I was overwihjt in last 4-5 years (with a maximum BMI: 28.2 during that period) . My liver enzymes are normal in last 8 months. What do you think from platelet count?
Avatar n tn unlikely that the liver inflammation can be due to ibuprofen. It could be due to other causes, like infections. If it is fatty liver changes, there is an entity called Non alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is due to obesity, diabetes and high triglyceride levels. This can progress to cirrhosis of the liver and can be associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. So, prevention or cure is by treating diabetes, obesity and high triglyceride levels. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
211043 tn?1337050701 Since ttc has ruled the better part of my life, I cut them out a long time ago. As a rule, I try to stay within pregnancy guidelines as much as I can. Let's face it, I'm not giving up drinking until I have to, lol. But, most caffeine has been cut out, otc drugs, artificial sweetners(an occasional diet coke) etc. So many things can have an affect on an unborn child. I'd rather not leave anything to chance. Too many odds against me already, why add more? Thanks for the post.
Avatar m tn The maximum daily dosage of Ibuprofen is 2400 mg, so YES you are exceeding the MDD and sweating IS a side effect of taking that particular medication. You are most likely suffering effects from that, but it never hurts to have a visit to your primary care physician and you should definitely do that. He can order labs on you to determine your kidney function.
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar m tn The hospital had him on antibiotics and blood thinner. His new wife was giving him Ibuprofen at the same time. He died and not even the doctors knew what happen. Could the Ibuprofen have had a factor in it?
