1148241 tn?1294052796 I recently quit taking Vicodin for my joint pain because I was concerned about liver damage. I have been taking Ibuprofen instead. I've been taking two in the morning and then two in the afternoon. It says don't take longer than 10 days though. I have to take something though. My knees and wrists and fingers hurt too much if I don't. I know you guys aren't Drs but experience counts for something if its what your Dr has told you. What do you guys take?
Avatar f tn You need to tell someone now. Is there anyone at home with you? Please get to a doctor or ER and make sure you tell them exactly what you took. There are more appropriate drugs available to help induce sleep, both over the counter and by prescription. Talk to an adult soon. Please... Post an update please.
12678020 tn?1426625728 Taking that amount of Ibuprofen can damage your stomach and cause stomach bleeding, it can damage your liver and your kidneys. I know of people who have died from taking the prescribed dose. You should always take Ibuprofen after food to protect your stomach. A doctor may prescribe a stomach remedy to protect your stomach, but you must not take this at the same time as the Ibuprofen.
Avatar n tn Ibuprofen is a bloodthinner. They say you arent supposed to take it...only tylenol. Because when you are pregnant the volume of blood in your body increases by 50%. If you were to have an accident, go into preterm labor, etc...you could bleed out and hemmorage. Causing lots of problems!
Avatar m tn I have been vomiting and my stomach hurts a lot I feel bloated.
Business man2 1) At my age 69.5 and a daily dosage of 4 ibuprofen OR 3 naproxen, do I have to worry about kidney disease resulting from a "total lifetime dose" of ibuprofen/naproxen ?? 2) At recommended dosage and over a lifetime, does acetaminaphen have less potential to harm me than either ibuprofen or napproxen? 3) Is there a "total lifetime dose" concern for acetaminaphen? Thank you for answering questions in this forum !!
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor she prescribed Ibuprofen. I have been on it for past 4 days. Its a high dosage.
Avatar m tn Can Kidney pain be a side effect of taking Ibuprofen? I was taking ibuprofen last week consecutively for 3 days (400mg t.i.d) after laser eye surgery. A day or so after starting it I experienced mild pain/discomfort in my left flank that came in waves. When I stopped taking the ibuprofen the flank pain also stopped. The next day I took one more dose - the flank pain started again within an hour, but was gone the next day.
Avatar m tn I have been taking maximum daily dosage of generic ibuprofen (3200 mg a day, usually 1600mg at a time). I also take 600mg etodolac, 400 in the am and 200 in the pm. I have been having kidney pain on both sides, and excessive sweating. Could this be from taking too much NSAID medication?
Avatar n tn Have been giving my 15 month Ibuprofen for teething pain-are there side effects for giving too much? she has been screaming off and on for awhile. Can she be hulicinating?
Avatar m tn Oh my goodness. A doctor telling a patient to drink in liquid form rather than pill form because it doesn't go through your liver that way? Everything goes through the liver, whether it's liquid, tabs or pills. Ketorolaco is an NSAID, just don't exceed the recommended dosage and there is no reason why you can't take it in pill form. It would probably be faster acting in liquid form but it won't by-pass your liver. Most of us are advised to take acetaphetamine.
Avatar f tn https://www.drugs.com/dosage/naproxen.html Aleve is actually naproxen but is a Nsaid like ibuprofen (different though but in that class of drugs). One thing to keep in mind as tabs can be immediate release, extended release and controlled release. Different maximums depending on that aspect. The OTC version for pain is a max dose of 660mg a day. You are within that. But do reach out as you sound to be in a lot of discomfort. When you getting the tooth fixed?
3122657 tn?1357432602 Hi all so far 3 months into treatment i was pretty much sailing through it but not by body is hurting my back my legs just everything i ran out of Acetaminophen and want to know if anyone here knows if i can take Ibuprofen for the aches i am undetectable at week 4 no liver damage if someone could help me out with this Thanks Much love Karen
Avatar f tn I don't know why he's against upping the dosage, since essentially he is doing it anyway, just doing it himself. And then running out. I think he thinks he should be able to "tough it all out," both the withdrawal and the pain. But the fact is, until he has the surgery (maybe sometime in the summer,) he will need narcotic pain relief. So, IMO, the best thing is to get an appropriate dose that will cover the pain and will last the month.
1654058 tn?1407159066 Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar n tn i have taken vicodin for about 10 years now. I have never increased the dosage or abuse the med. my dr recently put me on tramadol which i'll try anything. i am to take 2 tramadol twice daily or as needed along with 800 mg ibuprofen twice daily. i have not found any resolve with this medication (i have been on it 2 weeks). i also have not had any typical withdrawl symptoms from stopping the vicodin. i have degeneration of my t3 and t4 vertebre and spinal rotation and of course subluxation.
Avatar f tn I agree with the ibuprofen/Advil. But that can also bother your stomach. Taking over-the-counter Prilosec can help with that while you're taking the meds sort of constantly. Also, eating will help a little. Taking oxycodone or other meds can make you feel sick initially but can sometimes go away but taking it with food can make a big difference. Feel better.
Avatar f tn My liver doctor says tylenol-only in the recommended dosage, never more. Advil can involve organs other than the liver and since our livers are already under attack, best to keep everything else healthy seemed to be the thought. I always defer to the information from the liver doc, they will be more up to date than doctors of other specialities. Good luck to you.
