ibuprofen dosage for kids

Ibuprofen is a bloodthinner. They say you arent supposed to take it...only tylenol. Because when you are pregnant the volume of blood in your body increases by 50%. If you were to have an accident, go into preterm labor, etc...you could bleed out and hemmorage. Causing lots of problems!

so during this whole pregnancy i havnt taken any meds but kids meds for cold....well i just took only ONE tylenol extra strength bcuz my teeth r hurting then a half cap full of kids cold meds..is that okay??

is it safe to take ibuprofen when pregnant? Just once? Ran out of tylenol.

Have been giving my 15 month Ibuprofen for teething pain-are there side effects for giving too much? she has been screaming off and on for awhile. Can she be hulicinating?

Thanks for answering Carolan. Actually I really hadn't thought it was a problem to take Ibuprofen in the morning and then Naproxen in the evening (which says NSAID) on the bottle (over the counter). Hmmm I 'm glad you mentioned that. I'm going to look that up but I'll stick to only one kind a day.

Tylenol is unveiling new maximum dosage instructions for paracetamol or acetaminophen in the US. The new instructions state a maximum total daily of 3,000 mg versus the old maximum of 4,000 mg. Additionally, it states to take the over the counter dosage every 6 hours instead of every 4 to 6 hours. These new instructions seem to be specific to their over the counter products not prescription medications.

My pain is not a pain for tylenol or ibuprofen. I need something stronger for this kind of pain. I need analgesic and antiflamattories.

So far in my experience, Deramax has been the best non-steroidal anti-inflammatory for pain in dogs - particularly for arthritis pain. Rimadyl is a close second and fairly cheap since it's been on the market for years. What kind of pain is your dog experiencing?

I just came from my dentist and he suggested I take 3 ibuprofen 4 times a day for 3 days to see if it would calm the nerve of a tooth. If it does not, then he suggests a root canal. My main concern is I'm afraid of the stomach problems this might cause. Do I have need to worry? I also take omeprazole to calm my stomach, so am I defeating the purpose? Thank you for your time.

Hello & welcome....Ibuprofen is TOXIC to dogs....It sounds as if she is still in good shape, but needs a prescription for pain meds. from your Vet.....Your Vet will have a selection of meds to treat your girl's, what I beleive to be, Arthrititis....They work wonders.... The yellow bile is stomach acid and the Ibuprofen could possibly be damaging her stomach lining.....Usually, dogs vomit bile when they've gone too long without food.....

Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).

Sweetie, there is nothing that you can take that is "a night time formula" that would have that much Ibuprofen in a dose. You shouldn't exceed the recommended dosage and if you took something that said it was a night time formula then you probably took something with diphenydramine in it. What are the active ingredients on the bottle? What strength per dose? 2900mg of Ibuprofen plus anything for sleep in not good. You need to tell someone what you took before you go to sleep.

Tylenol for sure. If you use anything ibuprofen related ASK your o.b. first and go by their orders. It can be harmful if in long term use.

Okay, I KNOW that I remember being told by the liver doctor who performed my biopsy that if I do need to take a pain reliever that I should take Tylenol. My OB/GYN doctor just told me to take Advil for cramps because it isn't metabolized in the liver. I rarely take anything, but if I do, which is less risky? Liver biopsy one year ago found no significant tissue scarring. My recent ALT enzyme levels are slightly lower than before, 61. My other enzyme levels are normal.

1) At my age 69.5 and a daily dosage of 4 ibuprofen OR 3 naproxen, do I have to worry about kidney disease resulting from a "total lifetime dose" of ibuprofen/naproxen ?? 2) At recommended dosage and over a lifetime, does acetaminaphen have less potential to harm me than either ibuprofen or napproxen? 3) Is there a "total lifetime dose" concern for acetaminaphen? Hi all, it's me Gretchen. I had my 3rd Nuerolysis yesterday. Lets hope this works for awhile. My question is. My Pain Mgmt DR upped my Nuerontin to 300mg 2x day. He took me off the Valium and Baclofen. He said Valium is not good long term and by upping the Nuerontin I won't need Baclofen. OK. As of yet, no bad side effects, yet I've heard many say things about Nuerontin. Any input would be greatly appreciated. One last thing. I've been feeling amped out.

Norco is another brand name for vicodin. If you need them try taking just a half tab.

So, yes, you are overdoing it. They also advise that you should take the smallest dose that gives you relief. Taking that amount of Ibuprofen can damage your stomach and cause stomach bleeding, it can damage your liver and your kidneys. I know of people who have died from taking the prescribed dose.

I also use ibuprofen. Tylenol never worked for me. Before I was cured of HCV I was told I could take up to 2000 mg of tylenol a day. I didn't take it as it did nothing for me. Once I was cured, my doctor told me I could once again take ibuprofen. I limit as much as I am able. I guess you have to weigh the risks against the benefits.

I have been taking maximum daily dosage of generic ibuprofen (3200 mg a day, usually 1600mg at a time). I also take 600mg etodolac, 400 in the am and 200 in the pm. I have been having kidney pain on both sides, and excessive sweating. Could this be from taking too much NSAID medication?
