3122657 tn?1357432602 In fact, acetaminophen overdosing is the most common cause of acute liver failure in the U.S., often as the result of suicide attempts. Most people still don’t know about this risk and don’t realize that acetaminophen is in hundreds of OTC cold, allergy and headache products and some prescription pain relievers. Check labels for acetaminophen, and don’t take more than 4 grams—equal to eight Extra Strength Tylenol tab--lets—a day from all sources.
Avatar m tn While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one. Some more side effects are unsteadiness, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, gastrointestinal, nausea plus vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, probable loss of blood in intestinal areas or stomach or both, headache, agitation, drowsiness, incoherence and confusion etc.

Avatar f tn I'm a male aged 39. I took a series of ibuprofen and paracetamol overdoses about 8 months ago, whereby I tool a large amount of pills. During the course of several weeks, I took about 10-15 grams of ibuprofen and some additional Paracetamol each time. I cannot remember how much Paracetamol I took. This happened at least 8 times, and although my symptoms at the time were minimal, I suffered with headaches, back ache, stomach ache and some nausea.
543518 tn?1245322027 Tylenol is very helpful against fever, ibuprofen is ver helpful against infammation, eg of the ankles. Aspirin and ibuprofen increase the risk of severe bleeding, especially if one has low platelets. All these substances should be taken with care. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cKzJOmVhjs Fore migraine there are much better specialised drugs, the triptanes. Migraine is not simple headache. You really should ask a neurologist for help.
1148241 tn?1294052796 I recently quit taking Vicodin for my joint pain because I was concerned about liver damage. I have been taking Ibuprofen instead. I've been taking two in the morning and then two in the afternoon. It says don't take longer than 10 days though. I have to take something though. My knees and wrists and fingers hurt too much if I don't. I know you guys aren't Drs but experience counts for something if its what your Dr has told you. What do you guys take?
Avatar f tn Studies have demonstrated that at certain dosages, ibuprofen can stress the liver and elevate liver enzymes in people with Hepatitis C. Ibuprofen must be used with extreme caution in the later stages of liver disease and for those on interferon therapy. 3. Aspirin – (Bayer, Anacin, Excedrin and others) reduces fever, relieves pain, and acts as an anti-inflammatory and blood thinner.
Avatar f tn An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar n tn This is why you have to take it several times per day when fighting a nasty headache or other pain. The body metabolizes the ibuprofen and clears it out in a matter of hours, not days or weeks. This process remains the same whether you've taken ibuprofen for two days, two weeks, or two years, unless you have liver or kidney problems.
Avatar f tn C with Pegasys/riboviran and my hepatologist actually prescribed tylenol 250mg up to three times a day for muscle aches and pains. No doubt tylenol is hard on the liver, but because my liver enzymes were not elevated my hepatologist said that in small amounts is safe and was effective to help with the flu like symptoms.
Avatar n tn It does not interfere with the treatment drugs but some of us have proven to be sensitive to the NSAIDs and with much liver damage, ibuprofin has some potential to thin the blood more - not good if you are already having clotting problems from liver damage. Most doctors recommend Tylenol, used in moderation. 4 extra strength tylenols (2 twice a day) is the limit. It's a better fever reducer than the ibuprofin, anyway.
1323278 tn?1298122488 Acetaminophen far below the toxic dose taken on a daily basis can lead to liver damage. While ibuprofen can upset the stomach, there is a second drug, Cytotec (Misoprostol) that can protect your stomache while taking NSAIDs There are also enteric coated NSAIDs that do not dissolve in the stomach but dissolve in the intestines. We should always let our doctors know all of the medication, including over the counter, herbal supplements, vitamins and other substances (Medical Marijuana?
1654058 tn?1407159066 With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar m tn Pain management is complicated and knowing the reason why your father is taking the meds he is prescribed as well as the long-term goals and effects seems like something you have a right to ask about. Here are a few links: http://www.eorthopod.com/content/pain-management-medications http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn Taken according to directions it should be relatively safe, and is unlikely to cause further liver damage. If you have cirrhosis, you should discuss this with the doctor; dose reduction might be required. Narcotic analgesics are generally considered liver friendly, but of course come with their own set of issues.
1326572 tn?1275500911 I have early RA, just got the latest blood work back. My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.
Avatar n tn I agree with the endoscopy kcee mentioned. Hep c is a liver disease and it isn't uncommon for those with it feeling the pain in this area. With liver disease many end up getting gall stones. I know when I get fluid retention I feel it in the liver where the gall bladder is more than any where else. Over the counter pain killers don't help my pain there so I can't reccomend and meds that may help. She should be on a low protien diet unless the GI directs other wise.
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar f tn s my understanding that paracetamol is known as acetaminophen in the USA. If that is true the two are a bit different acting analgesic and should not interfere with one another. Please don't take my word for it.... you need to consult a professional on this question. There may be reasons these two should not be used together in your situation..... Please consult your Pharmacist. Best of Luck to You.
Avatar f tn Sweetie, there is nothing that you can take that is "a night time formula" that would have that much Ibuprofen in a dose. You shouldn't exceed the recommended dosage and if you took something that said it was a night time formula then you probably took something with diphenydramine in it. What are the active ingredients on the bottle? What strength per dose? 2900mg of Ibuprofen plus anything for sleep in not good. You need to tell someone what you took before you go to sleep.
786879 tn?1236881905 So far so good but along with the 7 ribas a day, the AD and the occasional xanax My stomach is a mess. So I got some prilosec otr and added yet another pill for the day but its helping.
973741 tn?1342342773 I find Tylenol pretty useless too, but it's all I've got in that dept. I was put on ibuprofen for a month once because of all the pain I've developed since the Paxil thing because I haven't slept well since then and I've been very active and now hurt all over. They had me take it with prilosec to protect me, but it failed to fix the problem and left me with a bad tummy since.
Avatar f tn Tylenol is perfectly safe and will not harm the liver in the recommended doses. It is overdose that cause problems, and they can be serious to the point of fulminate liver failure requiring transplant, or even becoming fatal. NSAIDs, on the other hand, are not good for long term use. My doctor has steered me away from them. The active narcotics in the pain reliever (hydrocodone, for Vicodin and Lortab) are not harmful to the liver as far as I know.
Avatar f tn so i usually use a NSAID like Ibuprofen or Pamprin (acetaminophen) once a month for cramps, but I know these are hard on the liver and now that I know i have Hepatitis C is there something else i could take? I menstrual cramps that are unbearable the first few days.
