Avatar f tn I recently just started taking lithium and I have a cold that is making me miserable. I would like some relief...what can I take. I took alka seltzer and now I found out that was a bad idea.
Avatar n tn If it were me I would get off the lithium I was on it when first diagnosed with Bi poalr and I hated it for the very reason you stated. I now take celexa and zyprexa now for 7 years and I do great on them. I take them at night and they help lots to regulate my sleep as wellNow if I just didnt have to get up to go pee.LOL talk to your doc about changing your meds. good luck and let me know how it goes for you.
1172209 tn?1263427216 I've been on lithium for several years. At first I gained weight but after I got used to it my body just levelled off. If I was worried about anything it was the depression that was making me gain weight not only from eating but also not moving around much. If lithium gives you a few extra pounds it might be an ok thing if you get your life back. You have to watch your salt intake. Sure too much is bad but having the levels fluctuate isn't so good either.
717440 tn?1292743742 Hi, once in a while when I take my meds without food, I feel very ill, almost flu-like. I get hot and cold and hang out by the toilet. my pdoc hasn't sent me for bloodwork in a few months or more (can't remember last time I went... ok, I checked my calendar; Nov 19 and I started lithium Nov 27). I have a thyroid problem and it runs in the family. I've already been told to look for a new pdoc. I just want to know what the symptoms are if you are getting toxic from the lithium...
Avatar f tn I have also developed a thyroid nodule (after 2 years on lithium) and am taking 100 mcg of synthroid a day. Did the lithium cause the thyroid problem and is it reversible if the lithium is stopped?
Avatar n tn I guess there are a lot of side effects though from the lithium. So if anyone has also had lithium with RAI please post!
Avatar m tn my son on high dose of lithium he is having memory lost problems and problem focusing !!!! is ant body had similar problems with lithium also ??????
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has said to avoid NSAIDs and aspirin to avoid toxicity issues. My regular GP doc was not concerned about the aspirin content in combo drugs that I have taken (Soma compound and Fiourinal with codeine). When I asked the pharmacist, all she could tell me was that the instructions were to avoid aspirin. At what point does aspirin become a concern? Is an 81mg aspirin daily going to do anything? What about the 325mg (equivalent of ONE regular aspirin) that is in my combo drug?
Avatar m tn lithium can cause bac to get really high, and sometimes its hard to tell when someone is drunk when taking lithium , atleast that is my experience, its a salt so it affects the body in hydration , so does alcohol , both dehydrate,
1102283 tn?1257817472 The problem with Lithium Carbonate is that the dosage needed is very high, and it requires blood monitoring to avoid toxicity. Lithium Orotate, on the other hand, is more bio-available, and safer than the Lithium Carbonate. The reason for this is that Lithium Orotate can be used at very low doses and is still effective. Dr. Jonathon Wright, who incidentally takes Lithium Orotate himself, recommends 10 to 20 milligrams of Lithium Orotate daily as a preventive measure. Dr.
Avatar m tn I've been on Lithium for approx. 20 yrs for bipolar disorder and the disorder ruined my life; it distroyed my career, family and my economic standing. I know many others have suffered as I have but I just wanted to get it out in the open. I bounced back a few times but it popped up again, why I don't know. If it was because I faild to take my meds, I'm not sure but I did have a few doctors that didn't know what they were doing.
Avatar m tn if i have carb cravings from lithium than the more carbs i eat the more fat i get. my question is how do you stop lithium induced carb cravings? when i eat meat and vegetables i feel full and satisfied but later in the morning i get this craving for bread and potatoes. its a vicious cycle i can't let go of. please help me with this dilemma.
Avatar n tn I am on 1200mg Lithium Carbonate daily. I just received results from blood test and my TSH level was 37.225. I am very concerned about this because I really need to be on Lithium. What should I do?
5987839 tn?1381922502 The one I took for years seemed to have run its course and my doc wants to change (as do I) ... She suggested lithium and as always I Googled it. The first thing I read was, it works on your central nervous system. That made me pause .. so I asked the doc about ms and lithium .. will lithium make it worse, or get in a disagreement w the Copaxone??
Avatar f tn Thanks for asking the question, bulldozer. I will be lurking for the answer. (Have been on low dose of Lithium for about a year; first 300, now 600; taking half in the morning, half in the evening. Never had a blood test.
979425 tn?1251403163 But my boyfriend and I are thinking that if we do plan to stay together we want a child in the future...and i want to know how does that work with lithium and other ppls experiences..
1011752 tn?1269241519 Other psychiatrists would not have anything to do with Lithium for me, and basically (over the long run, and my history with Lithium), I think I am doing well on it. I go for a level on Tuesday, 8 Sep. I guess we'll see. I am sorry if I am sounding harsh or anything, I don't mean it. Before this psychiatrist, I had a really good one that was a resident. She had a dual specialty of Internal Medicine & Psychiatry. I really liked her, but she bucked the Lithium.
Avatar f tn The opthalmologist informed me that the lithium I am taking can cause rapid eye movement and because I already have a problem with this he thinks the lithium "may" be exacerbating the problem. This in turn is giving me the headaches. He is hoping that my new glasses prescription will make a big difference but has said that if not then I will have to come off the lithium. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced eye problems with lithium or in fact any other meds.
Avatar f tn has anyone had stomach problems with lithium and lamictal while takimg them at the same time?.....
Avatar f tn Does Lithium cause Hair Loss? I just recently started it and I was wondering if it could be the reason my hair is breaking off so bad...I'm 22 I'd rather keep my hair...
952564 tn?1268368647 Rapid repetative thoughts, pressured speech, pacing and restlessness, confusion, distracted, no concentration, lots of fidgeting and giggling and it is annoying. It is always unpleasant feeling. When I was a teen I was that hyper girl, joking around and bouncing off the walls. But, I think it has mutated. I've been on 300 mg of lithium starting first week in December. First 2 weeks in January I felt normal. I could get things done. I could think. Then boom, it all went bad.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Lithium can cause thyroid problems, but thyroid issues can cause mental health problems. A simple blood test can rule out thyroid issues. I know here everyone is screened for thyroid as it can mimick bipolar and anxiety.
Avatar m tn When t comes to meds, everybody responds differently. However: Zoloft did nothing for me. Yes, I have been on an SSRI and lithium at the same time. It was quite a while ago, and I don't remember what happened. I believe the latest thinking is that bipolar depression is different from unipolar depression and that SSRIs are nor a good idea for people with BP. They can kick you up into mania.

6653958 tn?1395759593 ve heard that the thirst is a common thing with lithium and that weight gain is often associated with water weight. On the drug websites weight gain is listed as a side effect. I'm taking a lower dose of lithium right now, 600mg/day and we're decreasing my other meds. My appetite is going down. I don't know that I'm losing weight but I'm definitely not gaining. Are you taking any other medications that could account for the changes?
Avatar m tn I chose to try everything else before the lithium because I was worried about lithium and the risks of toxicity. However, I do wish it had been my first choice now because the difference has been quite remarkable.
Avatar m tn You are right to be concerned. It is important to call the dr without delay. The dose could be to high and his symptoms could be from Lithium toxicity. It is very very important for him to drink lots of water every day while on Lithium. If you don't, you can become toxic. If he takes a morning dose and an evening dose it is important they be divided equally. If he takes it at ten am then he should take the next dose at 10pm. I take Lithium and have experienced toxicity before.
