Yes, there are many other drugs besides hydrochlorothiazide and losartan (Hyzaar) which can be taken for high blood pressure. Please ask your doctor to change Hyzaar, maybe increase the frequency or dose of Atenelol as it was suiting you.
However, please do not make any changes yourself. Buy a home recording BP instrument and keep a check on your daily blood pressure in the morning and evening.

I had an EKG which showed a LBBB. This led to a visit with a Cardiologist who ordered a stress test (passed, no blockages) and an echocardiogram. The echocardiogram showed some weakening of the heart muscle, "it's not pumping as strong as we'd like". The Cardiologist said I don't really have anything to worry about. He suggested some lifestyle changes (more exercise and losing some weight) and changed one of my blood pressure meds.
In both drugs, the diuretic is a very small dose at 12.5 mg. This is a very common high blood pressure med and both have the same potential side effects so I would think your symptoms are not related to your change in meds. You should discuss this with your doctor to be safe. There are many benefits to a diuretic, most BP meds have this as well. The idea is to decrease your fluid volume load which makes it easier for the heart to function and to help prevent the asorbtion of salt.
high blood pressure is, by definition, a repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140 over 90 mmHg -- a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90.
Note that they use the words "consistently" or "repeatedly" or some such.
And also so that we don't debate the intervention point, feel free to substitute 120/80 for 140/90 if you like.
Also, I feel very tired most of the day. My weight is 170 pounds, blood pressure is normal (I take Hyzaar) and cholestorel levels within normal range. I have had EKG, Stress Test, and Echo done and all came out OK. The EKG shows early repolarization. I have been experiencing the sympoms often now and I am worried if I have CAD, but my doc seems not be too worried about it. Also, one of my uncles died young because of heart attack.
Any suggestions woould help.
My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic.
I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
I wake up with numb hands alot sometimes up my arms too. Pressure is normal and I am on Crestor at the maximum dose, toprol xl, coumadin, plavix, hyzaar, aciphex, hay fever meds. Also, for the last 6 months my Mean corpusle size has been high. Other tests ok... so my doctor is not real concerned. Anyhow, I am alittle concerned. Do you folks have any ideas at Med whatever this is?

My PCP added Verapamil to my current meds which include 60 mgs Cymbalta, Hyzaar , One half .25 mg Xanax nightly ( I have been trying to get off Xanax completely for awhile now, but that's another forum).
I have had high blood pressure through out most of my pregnancy i am now 35wks. I started swelling really bad last week and at my apt yesterday my blood pressure had jumped even higher to 156/90. My mid wife didn't seem concerned at all she just re took it and made my appointments weekly now. I can't seem to get rid of a head ache ive had for a couple days. Should i be worried???
Your bottom number is a little high but not horrible! I am 35w3d and I have had constant high blood pressure since 26 weeks. Its always around 165/94. Since its been constantly high, I see my doctor every thursday for an ultrasound to check the babies heartbeat and fluid, a non-stress test, and a chat with my doctor! I also go in every wednesday to do blood work to check for preeclampsia. This week will be my 4th time doing it.

cervix is still close which is fine with me no hurry lol but dr informed me that my blood pressure was high so he restricted me from work nn put me to rest...but I'm wondering if this means I'm getting induce? He didn't really say anything about it just gave me another appointment on Thurs to check blood pressure!

They help curve my nausea too. Ive never had high blood pressure from too much salt however in my past pregnancies(like in last trimester)if i ate them too often my feet would swell up pretty good. At this point its hard for me to ignore cravings. Sometimes your body craves what you need but just try to eat whatever it is in moderation.
So the last few weeks when I go to the doctor my blood pressure is high (can hit 160/110) so each time he sends me to l&d blood work is normal and the last visit was the only visit without protein in my urine. He said he could induce me on Tuesday which would make me 36+4. At last visit baby was measuring 7.7 lbs. I have also lost my mucus plug. I also have gestational diabetes. My question is would u be ok woth inducing this early. I am afraid to make the wrong decision.
