Hyzaar for hypertension

Common Questions and Answers about Hyzaar for hypertension

cozaar

Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar m tn At that time I was taking 50 mg of Atenelol per day for heart palpitations, nothing more than OTC acid reducer. The new MD prescribed Hyzaar for HPB. I had horrible feelings so we cut it to half per day 25mg and 25 Atenelol. I still have days that I cannot function, I feel heavy in my head and chest and just have no energy at all. I have great days and horrible days but lately more horrible days. I just don't feel right.
Avatar f tn I have been told that it is hereditary and there is nothing I can do to stop it. I am on metoprolol tartare 25 mg. and hyzaar 100/25, both taken 1 qd. hyzaar in am and meto... in pm. We are talking that within 2 years I will have a valve replacement (when it reaches 5.0 cm). Is there anything I can do to stop the progression?
222369 tn?1274474635 ve gone from 280 to 248 or so. My high blood pressure was under control at the 280 lb mark by way of Hyzaar 100-25. My blood pressure is now in the low range (averaging 108/58). At what point in my weight loss (goal of 220 or lower) would you think I'd need to have my BP meds changed (if at all). I just thought a member here may have already gone through this and would have some advice. Thanks in advance!!
Avatar f tn I just returned from my first appt w/ my new Dr. She says that I should be on lisinopril "to protect my kidneys". I have had diabetes for 35 years and never had a test come back indicating that I am "spilling protiens". My BP is 104/70 A1c is about 7.3.Very good health, no heart problems etc. Is this just a standard/ routine prescription for diabetics now...like aspirin?
Avatar m tn Hi Jim. I haven't looked at this board for a while. I've been taking hypertension drugs for 30 years. Right now I'm taking an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (Atacand) and a calcium channel blocker (can't remember which). I've also taken beta blockers and ACE inhibitors. They all work. The coughing that the ACEs cause is harmless. One thing I didn't see mentioned is that I think the cardiologists use a stress test to diagnose HT.
Avatar n tn hi there: I am 30 year old male with relatively sedentary life. I have been experiencing shortness of bredth ( chocking feeling) whevever I go for brisk walks. It's accompanied with lightheadedness, tightness in the chest and rapid heart rate. Some time I get the sympoms at rest as well. Also, I feel very tired most of the day. My weight is 170 pounds, blood pressure is normal (I take Hyzaar) and cholestorel levels within normal range.
Avatar m tn I had an EKG which showed a LBBB. This led to a visit with a Cardiologist who ordered a stress test (passed, no blockages) and an echocardiogram. The echocardiogram showed some weakening of the heart muscle, "it's not pumping as strong as we'd like". The Cardiologist said I don't really have anything to worry about. He suggested some lifestyle changes (more exercise and losing some weight) and changed one of my blood pressure meds.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your knowledge and answering me. Knowing all you write, it makes sense I guess. My meds consist of Hyzaar, Toprol XL, and Norvasc. I have had hypertension since age 29. Since I'm 64 now and never had the symptoms knowledgeable to me, it was new and concerning. I wasn't really stressed out, just plain sick with a general malaise with the skipped beats felt in my chest and into my throat. I hope the symptoms don't return, but if they do I won't bother reporting it.
116881 tn?1189755823 My Dr just took me off of Hyzaar and has put me on 5 mgs of Bystolic per day to control skipped beats and my HBP. Well, the skips are much better but my pressure is still up and my pulse is really low for me -- like in the mid 50's!!! I feel like garbage. I have only been on it for a week. My Dr wants me to stick it out a little longer. So her I am needing take one today for my BP but my pulse is sooooo low. ANyone else on Bystolic? Will this get better?
Avatar m tn It is a combination of Valsartan and the same diuretic as Hyzaar. It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
Avatar m tn I have heart disease and have 4 stents.... not a good candidate for surgery because of antithrombin III deficiency. To complicate things more I have a back injury directly behind my heart inbetween the shoulder blades. I have mentioned this problem to my doctor but he just scratches his head. Its hard to get them to do much with my heart disease because surgery has been ruled out. I guess thats about all they know how to do.
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
Avatar n tn My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
Avatar m tn Currently I am on multiple of 3 BP pills for 6 or more depending on how high my BP goes, and 2 of 1 relaxent pill. Is there any value in getting acunpuncture to lower my BP. I'm only having a problem with the stystolic number mainly ranging between 150 and 220. If yes, is there a good site to go for a qualified acupuncturist for hypertention in the Detroit area? Also, I've had all the tests listed on webmd and more for hypertension, nothing was found wrong over the last 15 years.
Avatar n tn I also have what appears to be refractory hypertension. One year ago, when hypertension was dx, an echocardiogram indicated only mild regurgitation of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. My physician, at this time (EP for pacemaker), said this would go away once BP was controlled. Over a year later, despite seeing a hypertension specialist and trying many different drug regimines, BP still remains high.
Avatar f tn I am a 21 year old female. I have hypertension and I am treated with hyzaar 25/100 for it. I am overweight and previously had a very poor diet with no exercise. I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides also. I take wellbutrin XL 150 mg, vyvanse 50 mg and and strattera 80 mg. I developed swelling in my fingers in both hands this winter. It is perfectly symmetrical and located in the fatty tissue before my knuckle where my finger meets my hand. They are reddish plaque looking areas.
Avatar f tn What weight loss supplements are safe to take while on hyzaar and cozaar for high blood pressure
Avatar n tn Pressure is normal and I am on Crestor at the maximum dose, toprol xl, coumadin, plavix, hyzaar, aciphex, hay fever meds. Also, for the last 6 months my Mean corpusle size has been high. Other tests ok... so my doctor is not real concerned. Anyhow, I am alittle concerned. Do you folks have any ideas at Med whatever this is?
Avatar m tn I certainly agree with is_,,, Trying to find the silver bullet, so to speak, has been a search since Heck was a pup, and Dante's Inferno has a place in hell for those who propose nostrums for profit reasons. I'd suggest you follow conventional medications, they have certainly extended my life beyond my expectations. Frankly, to disregard a doctor's prescription to follow an internet threat to me is reckless behavior. You have a serious disease and it is time to face it.
Avatar n tn Good for you for quitting smoking, coffee, and high salt intake--and for losing weight. Are you physically active on a regular basis (like walking 30-45 minutes 5 or 6 times a week)? Exercise may help to bring your blood pressure down. Also, do you drink milk or eat yogurt every day? Because they have calcium in them, these foods can help control blood pressure, too. (Nonfat types are best, and look for yogurt that has Vitamin D listed on the label.) What about alcohol use?
