hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Hi, SimplyStar is right about the 10# lifting and the easing into everything else. I would add that your body will let you know when you need to stop or slow down. After my hysterectomy, I found that it was the fatigue that got me first. You will notice that the time in between will get longer but it does take some time. Don't go off of the standard 4-6 weeks, either. If you are tired, you're tired.
Avatar n tn I am trying to find out the benefits or the risks of also having the hysterectomy. I know the recoup time may be longer - but are there other reasons not to have the hysterectomy also?
Avatar f tn 3 weeks to go for my date to go in to hospital for my hysterectomy i have to ring the hospital on the day to see if they have a bed for me o god i am up the walls thinking about it anyone any tips i need to stop thinking about it it i am going mad befor i even get it done :{
Avatar n tn How long will it take for you to recover from a partial hysterectomy. I had mine a week ago, I feel like I am able to work already but I'm afraid that going back to work at one is not good for me.
525584 tn?1212442543 It depends on whether your surgery is going to be done laporascopically or with open surgery (laporotomy). Due to the length of stay I would suspect they are doing open surgery. I am having the same on June 6 and have been told that I will be off work anywhere between 4 weeks and 8 weeks depending upon how I recover. There is significant pain involved but after the first 2 weeks should lighten up considerably. Do visit www.hystersisters.com.
442027 tn?1209866342 If I had to make the decision over again, I would have taken a much more conservative approach to the incontinence issue, and stopped after that first surgery. The hysterectomy that I had really was not necessary, and I was not one of the more fortunate patients (my mother had no problems with it, so I thought it would be ok).
1260611 tn?1271241731 This post is the best advice I've had a chance to read thus far. I will be having a supracervical - and my gyno. will have to go through the c-section incision - so I expect I will have to stay in the hospital for at least 2 days tops (hopefully)...I'm just so fearful - because I have stairs in my home and I will be home alone during the day for the most part of the recovery...
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
973741 tn?1342342773 One thing I find perplexing is that many women who go in for prolapse consultations are told that a hysterectomy will be done at the same time. Hysterectomy increases your risk of prolapse (as well as causing a number of other problems) so you certainly wouldn't want that! Best of luck in addressing this!
Avatar f tn I'm 42 and have been suffering daily with pain from endometriosis for years. I have no energy and no sex drive. I'm seriously thinking about getting a hysterectomy. I came hear and have been reading horror story after horror story. I'm wondering is anyone happy with their decision to get a hysterectomy? Need adice.
Avatar f tn hi,you will feel like that for a few months yet until your hormones settle down,it really takes a year to get over a hysterectomy, you will have goods and bad days, just take it easy, you should be of work for six weeks,i feel you are not ready to go back to work yet go back to your GP and get a longer sick line for another few more weeks.take plenty rest i know that might be difficult since you have children.
Avatar f tn I am so nervous. I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy because of my ovarian cyst by Da Vinci surgery. Has anyone had this surgery? I don't know what to expect. It looks as if the dotror is playing video games and I suspect there is no Hands-On Surgery during this. Is anyone watching me at all? I am so nervous and if this wasn't something that I must have I would cancel the whole thing.
Avatar f tn It has been nothing compared to the actual hysterectomy. I will continue to post updates as I go along. I hope this helps anyone who is dealing with this horrible problem. I have yet to find anyone else who has had a vesicovaginal fistula and am hoping this proves helpful to anyone else who has been unable to find support while suffering from this condition. Know that you are not alone.
Avatar f tn Do ask your doctor but I would imagine you would be able to after the first week but might want to arrange for the little car to drive you around as you will be very sore and very tired. You might also want to ask this question on the hysterectomy forum. Good luck with your surgery.
Avatar f tn I can not sneeze, cough or laugh without being in unbearable pain. This has been going on since about a week after my surgery. I am going back to work in 5 days, and I do feel up to it, but is this pain normal? I have never felt anything like it in previous c-section recovery. If I were to sneeze, for example, this sharp pain would shoot through my pelvic bone and down through my inner thigh, burn like heck and cause the area to go numb for a couple of hours.
Avatar n tn I have recently had a total hysterectomy. The cancer cells were inside my ovaries, so they were removed during surgery. My doctor suggest I try Premerin for a hormonal therapy. Is it safe? Please advise.
Avatar n tn I was told not to climb stairs for the first 2 weeks following the surgery, but have been unable to keep that rule. What could happen to me for braking the rule? Are there sysmptoms I should be worrying about?
Avatar f tn Hi chrissiebee, I'm so glad to read that everything was benign! That is wonderful news and a relief for you, I'm sure. Those were some big puppies in there! I agree with fungirl, Mary is a wonderful wealth of hormone information. I hope she will be able to assist you. I am 2 months out from a total hysterectomy. I am on HRT, a very low dose bio-identical estrogen patch. So far, it is doing a good job. I get very few hot flashes, mostly at night, but I feel wonderful, emotionally.
Avatar f tn I am six years out from a total hysterectomy, and I too was rushed in to surgery with the opinion that I had ovarian cancer the size of a basket ball and needed to have it removed immediately. I was not given any information on hysterectomy nor was there time to conduct research on what it was and not to mention the side effects. After reading the post op report months later, I found that my other organs removed were totally healthy and only one ovary was enlarged and non malignant.
Avatar n tn They did an ultrasound and found a tumor the size of a football on her ovary. They are doing surgery and one Dr says it is more than likely cancer and the other is saying there is a good chance it is benign. Her genetic testing results came back and she is negative for a mutation. However, when she was originally admitted due to severe stomach pain, they found she had a blood clot in her lung which the one Dr says correlates with cancer.
Avatar f tn Is it normal to be bloated or feeling like I am gaining a pound everyday after surgery? It's only been 5 weeks since my hysterectomy, and I'm not eating much since then either. My same clothes I have been wearing are getting tighter and tighter. How can things change this fast?? Yes I am not as physical right now, but I am "puffed up" more than normal. I'm still in pain sometimes, but trying to take care of myself the best I can.
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar f tn The lesser operation can be done outpatient or with an overnight hospital stay and about two weeks of recovery (actually more, but most people return to work routines by 2 weeks and take it easy until more time passes). The greater surgery takes 6 weeks or more for recovery and about a 3-4 day hospital stay. Are you only seeing a GP (general practitioner)? What about a gynocologist?
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the DiVinci machine for a hysterectomy? How long was recovery? How did it go?
2041808 tn?1329931768 Hi all, Hope someone can answer a few questions. I am 37. This November I had a large fibroid removed to help with seriously bad periods. I am now 4 months later only slightly better on that front. My dr. is reccomending an ablasion or a partial hysterectmy. I did not inicially do an ablasion because was hoping maybe for a baby. At this point I need the bleeding to stop as it was making me anemic amung all the other issues that go along.I have gotten my iron up.
Avatar f tn ve had a hysterectomy, it did bother me as much as this does. What is the normal course of recovery for a surgery like this? When does the scoping and suctioning stop? What are some of the complications from this surgery? Would appreciate any insight into what I've gotten myself into. They found fungus in the sphenoid and a mucocele in the left maxillary.
Avatar n tn I just had a double surgery Rectocele and Hysterectomy at the same time. Expect to be in the hospital at least 3 to 6 days. And don't be fooled into thinking it won't take 6 to 8 weeks to recover, cause it will.!! you will start to feel great & like you can do anything, but don't, or you'll be bed ridden, I know from experience!
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm glad you're doing better now. That must have been scary for you. I'm sorry that you'll need a hysterectomy. I'd like to recommend the site hystersisters *******. Very informative and you can sign up for weekly progress reports both before and after your surgery. I found it to be a great site. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
