Hysterectomy vs endometrial ablation

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy vs endometrial ablation

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn What is the risk of endometrial carcinoma or other gyn issues after ablation since tamoxifen would still be providing an estrongenic effect?
Avatar f tn 1 Younger women are less likely than older women to respond to endometrial ablation. After an endometrial ablation, younger women are more likely to continue to have periods and need a repeat procedure. Young women may be treated with either gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRH-As) 1 to 3 months before the procedure. This will decrease their production of estrogen and help thin the lining of the uterus (endometrium).
Avatar f tn But because of the scarring, there is no way of knowing if the bleeding is caused by the ablation or by endometrial hyperplasia, particularly if hyperplasia was diagnosed prior to the ablation. At that point hysterectomy is needed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Your doctor should guide you in this. I do think some women get ablation instead of hysterectomy for this. You may be a good candidate for that. Talk to your doctor and let us know what they say!
Avatar n tn Had endometrial ablation (Novasure.) 3/2009-worked for about 10 months. Bleeding is back but more like black old blood mixed with a mucous discharge..every other week for days at a time. Sometimes clotty..always black/brown...assumed it was "left over" from ablation..? Also have achy pelvic area, bloated down there, painful sex and sharp twingy pains at times. Went to gyn for first time since ablation 12 days ago. He ordered ultrasound.
2042830 tn?1333865567 HI, If the report comes normal, then the treatment options are either medical treatment or conservative surgery in the form of endometrial ablation. If you are scared of ablation, you can opt for medical management which is quite effective. However depending on findings of examination and endometrial biopsy your Doctor is the best person to advise you. Hope this helps.
1591061 tn?1297091399 t want to take birth control until I start menopause, so I was thinking about a parital hysterectomy and then my bestfriend asked me if I had heard about Endometrial Ablation, so I did some research on it and I have read a number of blogs on this and other forums and for the most part it sounds like it works to an extent, I have also noticed that people that have had it done, a few years later they get severe cramping and bleeding again. Does this continue to last?

Avatar m tn ve since had ops for ectopic pregnancies, womb ablation, subtotal hysterectomy (31 yrs old, 6 months after ablation). During my hysterectomy my surgeon had to separate my uterus from my bowel, bladder, cervix and ovary. Everything was stuck together due to scar tissue/pelvic adhesions. My surgeon believed that the pelvic adhesions were the cause of the horrific pain I was experiencing. I was fine for approx 3 years after my hysterectomy when the cramping and back pain returned with a vengeance.

2042830 tn?1333865567 The decision to have an ablation is a discussion you should have with your doctor. I can tell you that many of my patients have had endometrial ablations and done very well. Ablations work better for bleeding than they do for pain and bleeding and I have had patients that had both (pain & bleeding) in which the ablation did not resolve the pain. In these instances some of those patients elected to have a hysterectomy. J.

1380492 tn?1279128416 ve been together for 4 years already and we love the idea of having a baby together. I had an endometrial ablation one year ago, but i still have my period. Can you tell me if I have any chances of getting/been pregnant? or if there is something I can do to get pregnant?
Avatar m tn you will find some detailed information regarding the condition and treatment options. One thing I noticed is that endometrial ablation is sometimes listed as an option but I've read that ablation should NOT be done when there's been hyperplasia or one is high risk for hyperplasia because an ablated lining (endometrium) can mask hyperplasia and cancer. Please do your research and advocate for yourself before deciding how to proceed.
Avatar f tn Endometrial ablation is usually done in an outpatientor hospital. The procedure may be done using a local or spinal anesthesia, sometimes they put you into a twlight sleep,,drs usually use heat or freezing chemicals to take off edometrial layer,,,seems to be more common now than the D&C method,,,,in theory it should work...
Avatar f tn I am 53 years old, Two years ago i had an endometrial ablation done due to extremely, heavy periods that would last weeks at a time. Now, literally two years from that i have started bleeding again, not as heavy, not many large clots, but just as long. Transvaginal US was done, all looked good but simple ovarian cyst, and posterior subcerosal fibroid, I have no pain, other than normal cramping, no pain after sex etc.
Avatar f tn m 48. Had a pelvic ultrasound. Endometrial line is 0.8 cm. That is normal, yes? I also had an endometrial biopsy and go for my follow up this week. Why the chronic pain and bleeding. 4 times since Feb. 9th.
Avatar f tn I a waiting to have a repeat ultrasound. I was also under the impression that an endometrial biopsy was not an option if you have had an ablation. Is that wrong?
Avatar f tn I had the endometrial ablation done on March 5, 2010. I also had a fibroid removed from my uterus. I never had "heavy" bleeding, just very irregular periods. Not a lot of cramping either. So here I am almost three months later and the cramps I am having with no pattern are making me CRAZY. I am on birth control because the ablation is not pregnancy proof. So I'm not sure if its the pill (never has been in the past) or the ablation that is causing these cramps.
551683 tn?1220656108 I don't know what to expect after my D&C and endometrial ablation. Anyone know? I'm not sure when. They will call tomorrow or Mon. with the dates for me. I'm just curious as to what to expect. I know that a lot of it depends on exactly what all they do, but I have no idea what to expect.
635805 tn?1239733730 How do I get rid of my period? I'm 44 and have no desire for children. I'm diabetic so I'm don't want to go back on the pill. I asked my Gyn about endometrial ablation and she told me that procedure was not recommended for me as I don't have severe symptoms.
