Hysterectomy via laparoscopy

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy via laparoscopy

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Marci, Hi, yes it is normal. You are swollen from the surgery. Did you have your surgery done by laparoscopy? You had major surgery so give yourself more time. I've just had a total hysterectomy via laparoscopy and tried to wear my jeans after 3 weeks and they were so uncomfortable. Now, at almost 6 weeks, I notice it is lots better. A year and a half before my hysto I'd had my right ovary/cyst and tube removed and it took a while for the swelling to go down.
Avatar f tn t want to risk removing the ovary and the myoma via laparoscopy due the high value of the CA - 125. Would it be safe to do a biopsy via laparoscopy and then, decide on what to do??? He is worried that the myoma has damaged the walls of the uterus and I may not be able to have kids. Thanks in advance for your help.
Avatar f tn I am 44 yrs old, have never had children, been physically disabled (due primarily to pain and severe fatigue) with no quality of life for almost a year, have been suffering with progressively worsening pelvic pain which has become almost unbearable, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis, and am seeing an Ob/Gyn today about his experience with treating women via surgical hysterectomy...I'd appreciate some feedback on how a hysterectomy has helped your life.
Avatar f tn I have had endometriosis since the age of 12, am now 42 yo. I had bso hysterectomy last July. My dr. believes a little bit of endo remains behind my cervix (kept that). My dr. would like me to take 3 mos. of lupron to suppress any remaining endo. Is this safe to do after bso hysterectomy?
711629 tn?1231198928 As it turned out, he had to take my ovary along with they cyst via laparoscopy. This was an out patient surgery. Recovery for that was fairly easy but it was more than a couple of days. Pain for a little bit. Bleeding like a period. It took a while for my remaining ovary to pick up the slack of two but it did, somewhat. I was fatigued but I think I bounced back pretty well. I was 48 when I had this surgery. You'll be back to doing "normal" things in a month or so.
Avatar n tn If they have to be removed it is either via laparoscopy (small incisions) or via laparotomy (open abdominal surgery). That could mean just removing the cysts or removing one or both ovaries with them. The first procedure is usually outpatient or overnight hospital stay with about 2 weeks of recovery, or more. The latter is around 2 to 3 nights in a hospital with 6 weeks of recovery.
Avatar f tn However, most of the women in my family have had cervical cancer, and while that does put them at higher risk for vaginal cancer none of them have had a single abnormal result after getting their hysterectomy. So keep in mind that a hysterectomy can be very very effective. That being said, I have never heard of a biopsy making a tumor (cancerous or non) grow worse than it would otherwise.
Avatar f tn I had a laparoscopy hysterectomy 5 days ago and came home day two I am extremely bloated and although not eating a lot drinking plenty but the gas doesn’t seem to be dissipating at all. Is it to early to expect it to have gone or even reduced by now? The gas pain is far worse than the op itself with shoulder tip pain being the worse I was told to expect this do not to concerned about it but just feel so blown up. Eating seems to make it worse. Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn In 1994, she was first detected for ovarian cyst and got her laparoscopy done. In 2004, she got detected of Ovarian cyst again and got her hysterectomy done. now after almost 12yrs of her operation, she is having excessive fluid coming out of her vaniga and she is becoming very weak. Can you please suggest, what may be the cause and also the way of recovery?
Avatar f tn However, he says I should have my uterus out at the same time (via laparoscopy) as my 8-10 fibroids have grown 20% in the last year. I am 45 years old, and although still ovulating, believe that I should hit menopause in the next couple of years. My fibroids are all relatively small (16mm at the largest), although I do have all three categories (subserosal, submucosal and intramural).
Avatar f tn I had a laparoscopy with right ovarian cyst, ovary and tube removal. The pathology report returned with the endometrial ovarian cancer 1.1, graded 1c. No mets noticed. Surgeon sugested the total hysterectomy with uterus, left ovary and tube, lymphnodes and abdominal fat removal. Very emotional. can somebody gime me advise what to do?
Avatar f tn I had laparoscopy surgery done about 8 weeks ago. I actually went in to have a cyst removed, but the cyst had already ruptured, but they found endometriosis. I have hurt and hurt and I still hurt. I go tomorrow to my ob to discuss further options. At my 2 week post op, he mentioned about the Lupron shot which I do NOT want to take for various reasons. I hurt mainly on my right ovary, but when he did the lap. he said my ovaries looked fine.
Avatar n tn I have been asked to weigh the risk of rupture of a malignant cyst via laparoscopy vs. less chance of rupture via laparotomy. I was working off the thought that you can't find out about benign/malignant until after removal. I may be thinking through this too much, but goes with the territory. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks, I've got results this evening and amazingly good - even the consultant was amazed that the tumour markers all came back clear. He's advised me that I need a hysterectomy - done as a full cut not laparoscopy and I'm a bit baffled as if it's just a plain old uterine fibroid without anything coming up suspect in the CA-125 etc why I need to go down this route but been advised that it is posterial (?
Avatar f tn I forgot to ask doctor..but figured here would be better. With laparoscopy..are you admitted or is it same day surgery? How long can I expected to be out of commission if it goes well without complications? Thanks!!
Avatar n tn I have endermetrial cancer and currently being scheduled for a complete hysterectomy. My doctor would like to do the surgery robotically. MY only concern is that he has only performed 2 robotic surgeries before. I am concerned about him not having enough experience with the robotics. What are your thoughts on this? DO I have a vital concern?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had pelvic pain for 2 months, now gone, ultrasound showed a lesion at the vaginal vault which appears to be a hydrosalpinx. My gynacolagist wants to do a laparoscopy to gain histological diagnosis & removal. I had a abdominal hysterectomy 10 years ago leaving my tubes and ovaries. I am reluctant to have this surgery as the pain is now gone and it is going to take 6 months before the hospital can do this surgery. Is it likely to resolve if it is a hydrosalpinx?
Avatar n tn 6cm benign endometriotic cyst removed (including the right ovary) three weeks ago via laparoscopic surgery. I have the usual entry points; 1 x via the bellybutton, and 2 either side of my pubic area and an incision where the ovary/cyst was removed. I have distention of the left side of my abdomen, more than the right and still experience quite a lot of pain on the right side as well.
Avatar f tn i had total hysterectomy done on Sept. 1, 2010. The procedure was a da Vinci laparoscopy or a robot assisted lap. and the uterus was removed thru the vagina. I had D& C thru the same procedure done on Feb. 22. 2010 and never had any problems after that but the second one, the hysterectomy, i'm experiencing severe spasms and pain on the left side of the stomach. The pain is described as squeezing, tightening feeling that never stops.
Avatar n tn infertility; miscarriages and finally had two sons via c/s. I went in for an overdue pap, etc. and a very large polyp was found in my uterus. The dr. said, "good size; No, VERY large". He said it had thickened the lining of the uterus alot and had a very rich blood supply going. I have had very, very heavy periods-so heavy It is hard to go out during the first days of my period. He is going to do a biopsy in a week and a half (after my period goes away) and then decide what to do.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn Are they planning on removing it via laparotomy or laparoscopy? I just had mine removed Thursday via robotic laparoscopy feel free to ask any questions or email me with them.
Avatar f tn Were you losing a lot of blood? Cysts often can be removed without a huge incision via laparoscopy or without it being an immediate emergency when done by a doctor that specializes in removal of them (gyn surgeon, gyn/oncologist surgeon). If you got sent quickly to OR and got a general surgeon, there's no telling what they did.
