Hysterectomy recovery what can you expect

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery what can you expect

hysterectomy

717440 tn?1292743742 The best person to ask what to expect before and after the hysterectomy is your physician performing the procedure because he knows your case better than I or anyone else. Your physician should give you and your hubby a thorough explaination of what he is going to do and projected expectations. Please make sure you understand and have all your questions answered by your physician before agreeing to this.
Avatar f tn Right now fighting infection from ablation and perforation in uterus plus a surprise exploratory laprascopic. What can I expect? How do I prepare what happens day of surgery?
Avatar n tn I am 12 days post-op from rectocele surgery and still having some discomfort with my stitches. How long should I expect this to continue? No blood flow anymore just a very little bit of discharge. This discussion is related to After rectocele surgery.
Avatar n tn m just wondering if anyone else has had this procedure and what to expect for recovery. Spent a night in the hospital with a morphine drip and a catheter, and now I'm finally home. I had horrible stomach pains, gas, nausea, and cramping for the first 4-5 days and was unable to have a bowel movement. It's day 6 and I finally was able to have a bowel movement ( I don't think I was ever so excited to poop in my whole life!
Avatar f tn I am 52, never went through menopause, and getting ready to go through a radical hysterectomy. I have cerival cancer, caught early. I have no idea what to expect or how to handle thrown in menopause. Any suggestions how to prepare for this venture?
Avatar n tn I just had a double surgery Rectocele and Hysterectomy at the same time. Expect to be in the hospital at least 3 to 6 days. And don't be fooled into thinking it won't take 6 to 8 weeks to recover, cause it will.!! you will start to feel great & like you can do anything, but don't, or you'll be bed ridden, I know from experience!
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
566073 tn?1219434819 I have had two surgeries, the 2nd one was the same vertical inscision. It wasn't so bad the 2nd time around, you also know what to expect. Surgery is scary no matter what. Sorry about the diagnosis, but, you found the best group on in the world to be part of. If you have any questions, please ask....we will support you any way we can.

Avatar f tn I hope your niece is recovering well. The only thing I can tell you is I have CPVT and have had it since I was 10 years old (33 now). If the doctors haven't already they will probably implant an ICD which will act like her own portable EMT. It monitors her heart constantly and will deliver therapy if needed. She will also probably be on medication such as a beta blocker. The doctors will also probably restrict any competitive activity. CPVT.
Avatar f tn She stayed in the hospital only one night and was up and walking about the next day. I think you can pretty much expect your recovery time will be similar to that of a regular C-section. The C-section is the more major of the two procedures. However, the fact that you're asking on this forum troubles me. Your doctor/OB/surgeon should be giving you plenty of information about your procedures and telling you all of this. Don't be afraid to ask them. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I'm not certain what all you already know, or what you need to know, so here's my simple "hysterectomy lecture" for future readers. :-) The word "hysterectomy" actually refers only to removal of the uterus. The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery.
Avatar n tn I returned to the doctor on monday (2 days early) and they took blood and sent me for a cat scan. this showed that i have 2 hematomas in my abdomen and i am just wondering what to expect and time frame of recovery.
1510783 tn?1290096307 ve been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. My doctor is not sure if she has to cut me or go vaginally. I am a little nervous and scared about this major procedure. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 years old.
Avatar f tn I am hoping someone can kind of give me a real idea of what to expect when I go see my OBGYN next week. A lil history - I am 40 years old and the mother of four. Until December 2010 though I had never seen an OBGYN.
Avatar f tn Write a list of all your questions to take to your Dr and ask him what to expect. It's hard for me to say what to expect because we're all so different. I had a complete abdominal hysterectomy many years ago with no problems at all. Yes, I was very sore for a few weeks and I took it easy. Prepare easy to fix meals before you go into the hospital that you can microwave. Ask your family for help with house cleaning, laundry and picking up meds if you need them.
Avatar f tn What can you expect on your first visit to your obgyn im going in for pains but im hoping to get a u/s is it possible?
Avatar f tn I would add that your body will let you know when you need to stop or slow down. After my hysterectomy, I found that it was the fatigue that got me first. You will notice that the time in between will get longer but it does take some time. Don't go off of the standard 4-6 weeks, either. If you are tired, you're tired. I pushed myself a little at a time and found as the weeks went on I could do more and more.
Avatar f tn Well, it really would depend on what grade of cancer it is (although from what I'm reading, you haven't been diagnosed with cancer?) When it comes to ovarian cancer, there are 3 grades. Grade one tends to be slow growing and can lie dormant for months even years. Grade two and three tend to be more aggressive and grow faster. Now that your cyst has grown to a substantial size I would suggest getting a second opinion from a different doctor or even a gynecological oncologist.
647397 tn?1307056615 t need it, then great, but if you do need it, just be informed about the surgery and recovery and you should be fine. I also hope all goes well with you!
Avatar n tn Remar is right if you absolutley must climb stairs think it through what you need and minimise trips up and down,...to the bare minimum. Hold the hand rail and do not carry objects, you dont need a fall. i would advise you to NOT climb stairs while home alone.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
