Hysterectomy recovery surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery surgery

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Do ask your doctor but I would imagine you would be able to after the first week but might want to arrange for the little car to drive you around as you will be very sore and very tired. You might also want to ask this question on the hysterectomy forum. Good luck with your surgery.
Avatar n tn I was told not to climb stairs for the first 2 weeks following the surgery, but have been unable to keep that rule. What could happen to me for braking the rule? Are there sysmptoms I should be worrying about?
Avatar f tn most doctors will say 10# should be the limit, it takes at least 6 weeks for the internal surgery to heal, go to the health pages and read the page for open surgery, some you have already been through but there is a lot of good info there I would ease into the exerise gently, swimming would be the best, walking, running might take a little longer, cycling only when you are cleared by your doctor. driving short distances can be done safely in about 2 to 3 weeks if you feel like it.
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar f tn The lesser operation can be done outpatient or with an overnight hospital stay and about two weeks of recovery (actually more, but most people return to work routines by 2 weeks and take it easy until more time passes). The greater surgery takes 6 weeks or more for recovery and about a 3-4 day hospital stay. Are you only seeing a GP (general practitioner)? What about a gynocologist?
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the DiVinci machine for a hysterectomy? How long was recovery? How did it go?
Avatar f tn ve had a hysterectomy, it did bother me as much as this does. What is the normal course of recovery for a surgery like this? When does the scoping and suctioning stop? What are some of the complications from this surgery? Would appreciate any insight into what I've gotten myself into. They found fungus in the sphenoid and a mucocele in the left maxillary.
Avatar n tn I just had a double surgery Rectocele and Hysterectomy at the same time. Expect to be in the hospital at least 3 to 6 days. And don't be fooled into thinking it won't take 6 to 8 weeks to recover, cause it will.!! you will start to feel great & like you can do anything, but don't, or you'll be bed ridden, I know from experience!
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
1053613 tn?1255987994 Im having the robotics hysterectomy on Dec. 30 and was wondering how the recovery has been for someone who has that type of surgery.
Avatar f tn As far as healing goes, it depends on the nature of your surgery and your overall health. Minimally invasive surgery may have a recovery time of 2 weeks, well as a non-minimally invasive approach may take as long as 6 weeks. Regards, Erich T.
Avatar m tn Hey guys i really need help! I came out of surgery Monday night. I had my appendix and a growth on the bowel taken out, well they put gas in you, like a balloon.. And it's about 4 days later and i still have that gas in me and it gets trapped in my shoulders and really hurts, but also its making me look (fat) HOW DO I GET THIS GAS OUT OF ME! Please help guys!
566073 tn?1219434819 The second surgery was a vertical cut from belly button to bikini line for full hysterectomy. I found the first surgery to be more taxing on my energy and harder to recover from, but I knew what to expect from the first surgery so I think that helped. I knew to make sure and walk as soon as I could in the hospital, and to take the pain medicine they offered it does help healing better. Everyone is different though, but I found the hysterectomy a breeze compared to first surgery.
1510783 tn?1290096307 moodiness most always after any surgery, this is a serious surgery the recovery is not fun, but think of the end goal you will finally be pain free, its wonderful and personally I sure dont miss the monthly at all....some /rare/ ladies get post tramatic surgical issues,.,this is usually women who dont have a support system at home,,,ask for help accept those who offer if someone can be with you first 48 hrs that would be good I couldnt even put my own socks on...
Avatar f tn There are two ways to do the surgery. The old-fashioned method is called a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, or TAH, meaning the work is done through an abdominal incision. Recovery time is easily 6 to 8 weeks. A Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH) means the uterus and cervix are removed through the vagina. A laparascope is used through tiny incisions in the abdomen to release the structures that hold the uterus in place.
Avatar n tn I live in Canada and I was in for 5 days but I have heard of others in for as little as 2. Did you have open surgery for your hysterectomy? The recovery time is very similar. I found a lot of pain for the first 2.5 weeks. Hugging a pillow really helped and very important to stay on top of your pain meds. My pain started reducing then and felt much better by the 4 week mark. It is so important that you just rest, leave the housework, lifting, twisting, and not overdo it.
Avatar m tn However the final diagnosis can be made only at the time of surgery by direct visualisation and with the help of frozen section. The recovery from exploratory laparotomy may take 8 to 10 days. Recovery is usually good. Hence let us hope for the best. Take care and good luck.
922475 tn?1243962297 m wanting more info on the robotic surgery. I have researched it... all it says is recovery is much easier and quicker. How quick? Like my dr says I can go back to work in a week??? Has anyone had this done? If so.. how did it you recover?
Avatar n tn a uterus removal is a hard surgery as far as recovery and emotions ..but you (anyone) can live quite well with out the uterus. Please update us when you can.
Avatar m tn I had a vaginal hysterectomy 8 years ago was great for me and I had a quick recovery. Surgeries change throughout the years. Laparoscopic surgery is great as well as the healing time is much quicker. Myself, I would go laparoscopic as it is a much faster recovery as I stated before. But I would definite talk to you gyn first. Good luck.
2012515 tn?1353875525 I would definately seek out a second opinion for that. That is a major surgery and has a somewhat long recovery period, at least for those that I have seen. Maybe some others here have some personal experience with it. I do not. I just know some people who have had one and have seen patient's who have had one done, as well. I can imagine that you would have pain! That's a fairly large fibroid.
Avatar n tn I also had a abdominal hysterectomy on the 13th of August, with a lot f bleeding and pain afterwards. My hemoglobin was tested and it was low. I then was sent for a catscan to find out that I have hematoma. That is all I was told. Now I am in pain and wondering when it is supposed to get better?
550018 tn?1264190965 Worried about the increase in scar tissue and recovery period after these two surgeries so close together. Does recovery ever get any easier after 2nd/3rd abdominal surgery or do you find that it gets worse? Any input would be great.
1027161 tn?1252001428 hiya, i have had quite a colourfull medical history, and am going in for a laproscopic hysterectomy next week and i am feeling quite fearfull, having 3 young children i am hoping for a speedy recovery, has anyone else had the surgery done in this way and how was it,,removal of the womb, ovaries, falopian tubes and cervix.
Avatar f tn What is the surgery for and what surgery are you having?
2114613 tn?1334967053 Consider, hysterectomy is not to be taken lightly. You will need at least 6 weeks recovery -no heavy lifting, tugging, pulling, pushing, or long periods of walking, I cannot remember how long you need to refrain from tub baths or swimming (prevents infection) ...Hormonal replacement will need to be considered depending on your age and how you have responded to hormones in the past. I cannot agree with the the first posting of 4/17. Please consult your doctor or medical staff who know you.
