Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery questions

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
1510783 tn?1290096307 I am scheduled to have a partial Hysterctomy because I've been diagnosed with Andemyosis. on December 15th (just my uterus will be removed, so far). What can I expect in regards to pain, recovery time and emotions. I've had my tubes tied for 4 years so I am fine about not having any more children. My doctor is not sure if she has to cut me or go vaginally. I am a little nervous and scared about this major procedure. Any feeback would be greatly appreciated. I am 38 years old.
Avatar f tn I would ask Your Doctor about recovery time Write all the questions down you have so you remember them all. I would think It would depend on the actually surgery itself. Good Luck to you and Dont forget write down these questions they are important.
Avatar f tn I'm not certain what all you already know, or what you need to know, so here's my simple "hysterectomy lecture" for future readers. :-) The word "hysterectomy" actually refers only to removal of the uterus. The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery.
Avatar f tn I can not stress to you enough how very important it is to follow post op guidelines to a T, Please go to my home page and read my journal on pre and post op hysterectomy hints, Its has all my best hints for a successful recovery and ideas of how to prepare yourself before the surgery. I have other more current journal entries so you need to click my icon to get to my page, then click see all on my journal list.
Avatar f tn ll be able to better advise you (this is a forum for pelvic organ prolapse, and although sometimes women have a hysterectomy as part of a POP procedure, the issues with POP and hysterectomy/fistula are very different. Someone should be able to address your concerns and you should be able to find quite a bit of useful information about hysterectomy in general in this forum. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Tiredness was my worst symptom!! But you defintely need to take it easy..unfortunately I had 3 surgeries 2 with the hysterectomy and 1 a week later but my incision took 8-10 weeks to heal...the norm is 4-6 but I know the insides need to heal alot longer..just when you feel good and do too much than you realize your quite not there yet..so please take this time to recover rather than end up doing something that can cause more damage..the Doctor will give you the clearance to exercise again..
566073 tn?1219434819 I had a horizontal incision, bikini to belly button only 7 wks ago, this was to remove large oc tumour I am being reopened on the same scar for my full hysterectomy, is this going to be heaps worse?????
Avatar n tn Hi everyone...I recently had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and could use advice. 2 days at home and had to return. A cat scan confirmed an abcess. I became in patient for 4days then sent home w an abdominal drain and bag. 2weeks nearly and cut revealed should be able to remove abdominal catheter and bag this week. Avatar f tn I'm having a partial hysterectomy done laproscopically in January due to Adenomyosis. Can anyone offer any advice for pre-surgery preparation and post-surgery recovery?
1809377 tn?1316520328 I am seeing my GYN tomorrow to make an apt to have a partial hysterectomy. I have seen a lot of the posts out there, but I would like to know what I can experiece post up... recovery time... discomforts... how long will it take for my body to get back to my new normal self, how long it will take for me to have sex again (it's been over 5 months)!!!
Avatar n tn Just simply anting to know the average recovery time for having your ovaries removed. Not a hystorectomy, or ovarian cysts. Only the ovaries.

Avatar f tn I also have ovarian cysts on left side. Aunt had hysterectomy at early age. I have been referred by GP to gyno. I am very worried about cancer, as I have some risk factors. How concerned should I be and what questions should I be asking my gyno? Is hysterectomy going to be suggested?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I am scheduled to have open abdominal surgery in a couple of weeks to remove a large fibroid. I had been miserable for months and finally when I went to the doctor they found I had a large mass on the outside of my uterus and was anaemic. They explained that often drugs will shrink the fibroid, or they can be removed laparoscopically (sp?) but with the position and size, mine has to be open surgery- a myomectomy.
Avatar n tn I am seeing a urogyno for rectocele plus fibroids which have returned after being removed less than 12 months ago, so possible hysterectomy. I was told 3 weeks recovery and I could return to work. I am a teacher and tend to be on my feet all day moving around the classroom, plus my classes are not always in the same room, so I walk around the school as well. I am going to give myself the full 8 weeks to recover. Again, thank you for sharing and wishing you well in your continued recovery.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
553516 tn?1255867219 Know that a hysterectomy is a very painful recovery for most.
Avatar f tn If you can try to find a surgeon who can do the divinci robotic laproscopic assisted hysterectomy . You will have 3 small scars instead of a hip to hip incision. the recovery time is shorter also. Plan on lining up some help for housework, kids, meals etc you will need it, and listen to post op instructions exactly, when they say do NOTHING thats exactly what they mean, I now use hrt the vivelle patch and I am happier than I have been in years !!!!!!!!
