Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery like

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Tiredness was my worst symptom!! But you defintely need to take it easy..unfortunately I had 3 surgeries 2 with the hysterectomy and 1 a week later but my incision took 8-10 weeks to heal...the norm is 4-6 but I know the insides need to heal alot longer..just when you feel good and do too much than you realize your quite not there yet..so please take this time to recover rather than end up doing something that can cause more damage..the Doctor will give you the clearance to exercise again..
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
1510783 tn?1290096307 i hope all goes well with your hysterectomy. i had mine a few years ago. like you i had my tubes tied prior. as far as pain an recovery....usually you have a short hospital stay unless you have any health problems. i had to stay longer due to other health problems and a reaction to the anestesia. my pain wasnt as bad as everyone said it was going to be. i had a c-section in 92 so they went in through the same scar and did mine that way.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy just under 3 weeks ago, and i was just wondering how much walking is too much? I am only going for short walks at the moment, but feel i would be able to go for longer walks, but am afraid i might push myself too hard. any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Avatar m tn If I still need to do some that it will be a laparoscopic hysterectomy recovery time is 2 weeks versus abdominal hysterectomy 8-10 weeks recovery time. God Bless you both and anyone else that's going through this!
Avatar n tn How long will it take for you to recover from a partial hysterectomy. I had mine a week ago, I feel like I am able to work already but I'm afraid that going back to work at one is not good for me.
1053613 tn?1255987994 Has anyone had their hysterectomy by robotics? Im having the robotics hysterectomy on Dec. 30 and was wondering how the recovery has been for someone who has that type of surgery.
Avatar n tn It does sound like it would be the best solution. I can see what the doctor means. If they leave the ovaries, at least you wouldn't experience surgical menopause, which can be a bit brutal. But you would say goodbye to your womb. How do you feel about that? It might be a good idea, for the sake of your general health. Fibroids naturally shrink after menopause, and often cause no more trouble, but with the kidney involvement, I would say it's best to have the surgery.
Avatar m tn I had a vaginal hysterectomy 8 years ago was great for me and I had a quick recovery. Surgeries change throughout the years. Laparoscopic surgery is great as well as the healing time is much quicker. Myself, I would go laparoscopic as it is a much faster recovery as I stated before. But I would definite talk to you gyn first. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I'm not certain what all you already know, or what you need to know, so here's my simple "hysterectomy lecture" for future readers. :-) The word "hysterectomy" actually refers only to removal of the uterus. The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery.
Avatar f tn If I have a hysterectomy, seeing how I had my tubes cut and they remove my uterus will I still have monthly periods? Also, we are going on a cruise in Oct, will I be complete healed by then? Thanks for your time.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the DiVinci machine for a hysterectomy? How long was recovery? How did it go?
Avatar f tn C section is scheduled for August 7th; however, due to the location of my fibroids I may have to have an emergency hysterectomy...is anyone else in a similar situation? Does anyone know anything about how that might impact recovery? Pregnancy has been basically perfect and baby is doing great otherwise!!
Avatar f tn I had a laproscopic hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. From day 1 I have had a pain in my right side. The scars on the outside look great and i have not had any bleeding. When i sneeze i feel like i m dying. It is a pulling burning feeling. if i pamper the right side it seems to get better but if i pull up from a chair or out of bed a certain way at times it is like i have ripped something all over again. my doctor said to give it time. has any one else had this issue?
566073 tn?1219434819 I had a horizontal incision, bikini to belly button only 7 wks ago, this was to remove large oc tumour I am being reopened on the same scar for my full hysterectomy, is this going to be heaps worse?????
Avatar f tn ve had a hysterectomy, it did bother me as much as this does. What is the normal course of recovery for a surgery like this? When does the scoping and suctioning stop? What are some of the complications from this surgery? Would appreciate any insight into what I've gotten myself into. They found fungus in the sphenoid and a mucocele in the left maxillary.
Avatar f tn Possible tumor unseen by testing) Anyway, I would like to know all of the ins and outs of post op recovery and etc. I am already on estrogen since I don't produce much. I recently (8-12 weeks ago) had my appendix removed laproscopically (sp?) will the pain be like that pain??? I am a stay at home mom to a HYPER!! ADHD 4 year old son. What should I expect after surgery in caring for him? Thanks for any info you can give me!
Avatar f tn Pain and cramps worsening, as well as radiating pain down left leg, that feels like leg is heating up from the inside. Transvaginal ultrasound showed a thick uterus during 3rd day of period and exam showed uterus has moved to left side of abdomen. I often suffer from low back pain and pressure in lower abdomen. I am forty years old, 5'5" weight is 245. Began menstruating at 10, have had three children. I also have ovarian cysts on left side. Aunt had hysterectomy at early age.
Avatar n tn I had a surgery for endometriosis in 2007 but the Doctors couldn't remove it out. They said it is like a watery matter but hard that is attached to the uterus & after they opened my uterus they found out it is Adenomyosis. They closed it back without removing. It's a bit diff from Endometeriosis but I guess it is the same family. I am 34yrs old with NO kids & not married as well.
Avatar n tn How long you stay in hospital depends on where you live, insurance, and your doctor. I live in Canada and I was in for 5 days but I have heard of others in for as little as 2. Did you have open surgery for your hysterectomy? The recovery time is very similar. I found a lot of pain for the first 2.5 weeks. Hugging a pillow really helped and very important to stay on top of your pain meds. My pain started reducing then and felt much better by the 4 week mark.
