Hysterectomy recovery hospital stay

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery hospital stay

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn The lesser operation can be done outpatient or with an overnight hospital stay and about two weeks of recovery (actually more, but most people return to work routines by 2 weeks and take it easy until more time passes). The greater surgery takes 6 weeks or more for recovery and about a 3-4 day hospital stay. Are you only seeing a GP (general practitioner)? What about a gynocologist?
Avatar n tn How long you stay in hospital depends on where you live, insurance, and your doctor. I live in Canada and I was in for 5 days but I have heard of others in for as little as 2. Did you have open surgery for your hysterectomy? The recovery time is very similar. I found a lot of pain for the first 2.5 weeks. Hugging a pillow really helped and very important to stay on top of your pain meds. My pain started reducing then and felt much better by the 4 week mark.
1510783 tn?1290096307 like you i had my tubes tied prior. as far as pain an recovery....usually you have a short hospital stay unless you have any health problems. i had to stay longer due to other health problems and a reaction to the anestesia. my pain wasnt as bad as everyone said it was going to be. i had a c-section in 92 so they went in through the same scar and did mine that way. like you i was nervous and we are about the same age.
566073 tn?1219434819 I had a horizontal incision, bikini to belly button only 7 wks ago, this was to remove large oc tumour I am being reopened on the same scar for my full hysterectomy, is this going to be heaps worse?????
Avatar f tn m 44, single no kids, live alone, and scheduled to have a full hysterectomy in the next two weeks. Some dear friends have offered for me to stay with them when I get out of the hospital for as long as I need. Does anyone have any thoughts on how long I might want to do this? I'd like to be in the comfort of my own home as soon as possible, but don't want to push it.
Avatar f tn She felt fine after the birth but after the surgery could hardly walk for a few days, so her hospital stay was longer. Otherwise she recovered well. She eventually had a hysterectomy years later for other reasons but the tubal worked from day one.
1260611 tn?1271241731 Usually hospital stay is 2-3 days..they have you up and walking day 2. It hurts but is best,,you get rid of trapped gas,,and the longer one lays in bed the harder it is to eventually get up and move...it is a short walk down hall, you will increase as time passes. They want you to be able to get up at home bathroom, quick trip to fridge etc. Advice..listen to post op advice...take it very very easy...rest alot...6 week recovery pain gets better every few days...
Avatar m tn I am glad the insurance co. ended up allowing a longer hospital stay and 6 weeks home instead of 4. What kind of work do you do? Walking quickly can still be tough even after 6 weeks and being upright sitting or standing for hours also a challenge. I brought a pillow in to squeeze to my surgical area when it felt sore and it made my desk job more tolerable. I returned to work Week 6 but got permanently laid off 4 weeks after that. I still blame it on my surgery and long recovery.
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar f tn m not in the same boat but my mother in law just had a full hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. She stayed in the hospital only one night and was up and walking about the next day. I think you can pretty much expect your recovery time will be similar to that of a regular C-section. The C-section is the more major of the two procedures. However, the fact that you're asking on this forum troubles me.
Avatar f tn I know this has been posted before...but I don't know how to manuever this site yet....I am schedule for surgery 10/28...what should I take to the hospital? and is there anything that will make my stay and/or recovery at home smoother that I should get? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible. Thanks!
Avatar n tn It takes several weeks for your body to heal after a hysterectomy so it's best to follow the Drs orders. Take things slow and get plenty of rest.
Avatar f tn 3 weeks to go for my date to go in to hospital for my hysterectomy i have to ring the hospital on the day to see if they have a bed for me o god i am up the walls thinking about it anyone any tips i need to stop thinking about it it i am going mad befor i even get it done :{
486831 tn?1209148864 I use the vivele patch which seems to be going well..I am glad you sound so great..I had it done abdominally with an extended hospital stay of 3 weeks...just take it easy..you may feel good but your body needs time to adjust and heal...Feel Good and stay well..
Avatar n tn How long will it take for you to recover from a partial hysterectomy. I had mine a week ago, I feel like I am able to work already but I'm afraid that going back to work at one is not good for me.
Avatar n tn The first procedure is usually outpatient or overnight hospital stay with about 2 weeks of recovery, or more. The latter is around 2 to 3 nights in a hospital with 6 weeks of recovery. Much depends on the size of the cysts, your age and cancer risks in weighing weather to take the "wait and see" approach, or a more aggresive "remove it now" approach. Even simple cysts could need removal if they are large (10 cm or greater is the general rule).
Avatar m tn However the final diagnosis can be made only at the time of surgery by direct visualisation and with the help of frozen section. The recovery from exploratory laparotomy may take 8 to 10 days. Recovery is usually good. Hence let us hope for the best. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn I only have one outfit to go home. I figured I will be in hospital gown my entire stay there which is like a day? Two pairs of underwear and a few pads. A little bit of make up, mouthwash, and idk if slippers or shoes?
Avatar f tn My hospital stay was good. My baby stay by my side all the time, the staff was really nice and the food was good too.
Avatar f tn I was told that insurances now have to cover 48 hours in the hospital, but it is up to you and your doctor if you want to stay that long. At my hospital, non FTM can leave the same day if there are no complications but they keep FTMs for two overnights. If you have a c-section they generally keep you longer, at my hospital it is 4 days. I'd call your hospital and ask them their normal policy and ask your doctor what they normally recommend.
