Hysterectomy recovery gas pains

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery gas pains

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn You could also be feeling gas pains and/or constipation. A lot of people recommend taking stool softeners and/or gas relievers. I know you won't stop, but lifting your baby currently is helping to make you hurt by using muscles that were cut on. Hope this helps somehow.
Avatar f tn I had no idea how difficult the recovery would be, I am just ready to feel better!!! Could the pain be from the gas that was used to inflate my abdomen for surgery? How big do they expand your abdomen? Could this cause the ribs to displace/dislocate? So many questions..just looking for help. Thank you!
1510783 tn?1290096307 one problem immediatley post op many women have is the abdomen is distended with gas the gas gets trapped ( not all) but its not like regular gas its trapped in abdomen cavity you have to work it into intestines to get rid of..way to do that walking.. just remember post op the least you do the more you lay around read, do crosswords watch tv ( you get me) the better and quicker you will heal,,,do NOT lift use heat have sex do house work drive a car....
Avatar n tn Hi. I just had a total hysterectomy (Jan 29) and came home from the hospital yesterday. I can tell you that the gas can be a killer! I'm having stabbing pains in my upper abdomen which then travel to my lower left abdomen. Gax-X helps somewhat as of course does the percoset. Try to relax and walk even if it's just around the house. Moving around helps move the gas.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the DiVinci machine for a hysterectomy? How long was recovery? How did it go?

637613 tn?1281039564 I just wanted to say thank you to all the wonderful women on the Ovarian Cyst and the Hysterectomy Forums. I am having my surgery on Wed and am so very grateful for the wonderful advice and support that you have all offered me. I was so relieved when I found this site. I was beginning to think I was losing my mind and I must be the only one with these pains. I was amazed to know how many women suffer...and thankful to know how many get relief from the surgery. Thanks agian for all the support.
Avatar n tn I don't know what to do. I am in so much pain, and no matter what stool softener I've taken I'm in the greatest deal of pain. It's a constant sharp pain in my stomach, and i feel like it's trapped gas pains as well. It hurts so bad i cry throughout the day, and the doctors don't seem to have the right answer for me.
Avatar n tn How long you stay in hospital depends on where you live, insurance, and your doctor. I live in Canada and I was in for 5 days but I have heard of others in for as little as 2. Did you have open surgery for your hysterectomy? The recovery time is very similar. I found a lot of pain for the first 2.5 weeks. Hugging a pillow really helped and very important to stay on top of your pain meds. My pain started reducing then and felt much better by the 4 week mark.
Avatar f tn ll be able to better advise you (this is a forum for pelvic organ prolapse, and although sometimes women have a hysterectomy as part of a POP procedure, the issues with POP and hysterectomy/fistula are very different. Someone should be able to address your concerns and you should be able to find quite a bit of useful information about hysterectomy in general in this forum. Good luck!
Avatar n tn They will pump your tummy with gas and you will feel like a balloon for a few days. Gas pains were the most unpleasant thing of the whole procedure. The surgery itself you will not remember so don't worry about that. HSG is unpleasant and some ladies find it painful. However, it's REALLY quick.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed months ago with acid reflux and take prilosec which helps. 2 weeks ago I had horrible stomach aches and saw the dr. Since then, I've continued to have horrible gas pains and bowel sounds. She sent me for a Ct thinking it was an intestine inflammation...she found 2 large complex cysts one on each ovary. I had an MRI on Sunday and she called saying they found 2 small simple cysts on the left ovary and nothing on the right. I'm so confused!
Avatar f tn My periods are no longer painful since starting the pill, however from first day of bleeding the gas pains are so severe that standing upright is excruciating Any help or advice? Please, anyone?!?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed pain meds for home, but have not really had to use them very much. Most discomfort from the gas pains, and from all I hear that will go on for a while longer. I am so thankful to have the surgery behind me. I am thankful too for the support that I found on this website. What a wonderful place full of outstanding people. Sure helps you feel like you are in the company of friends.
Avatar f tn With my surgery they filled me with gas so I had to work the gas out that was the pain. I walked for hours in the house when I got home to work the gas out. It was painful. I had to hold a pillow against my stomach i I sneezed, coughed or strained.
Avatar n tn I brought her home today. She is in a lot of pain, mostly from what she describes as shooting gas pains. I guess that is normal. But I'm very concerned about her inability to urinate. She was only able to urinate a very small amount in the hospital, so they let her go home after they reinserted a catheter. She has to keep it for 1 week and then go back to the doctor to have it removed. Is this a normal side effect of the surgery?
782368 tn?1244854467 Drink plenty of liquids but try to limit carbonated beverages as it can cause gas pain or make it worse. Speaking of gas, you might want to have some Gas x or something similar on hand as either way your surgery is done, you will probably have some gas pain, which is normal but can be very painful. If you get sick with anesthesia, be sure to have your doc prescribe anti-nausea meds for you, for both the hospital and at home.
596055 tn?1219508055 t find anything, she then told me that ALL sharp pain that comes on suddenly and goes away quickly is intestinal. Basically IBS or gas pain. People under estimate gas pains, many people actually go to the ER just to find out their pain is being caused by gas. It makes you feel like a whimp to find out that's all it is, but it really is very painful. I am a pre-med student and I will never make my patients feel like they are whimps when they come to me complaining about gas pains!
Avatar f tn The sharp pains may be related to the gas they pump in to inflate the abdomen so they can see what they're doing. I think my surgeon deflated my tummy pretty well because I had very little discomfort from the gas, just a dull ache for a day or two.
Avatar f tn Hi , I was just wondering if you ever found out why you had these pains. I am 12 years post total hysterectomy and had everything removed and now having cramping and gas . Looking for some help .
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had a complete hysterectomy Oct 2012. I still have sooo much gas. It is not painful but why is this still happening? And it really embarrassing cause it is quite explosive and uncontrollable.
Avatar f tn I am having pain during sex then severe gas like pains after sex in lower adomen and butt. I had a hysterectomy 21/2 months ago.
Avatar m tn On May 12, I had a hysterectomy after a fibroid was found with possible cancer cells. At the time, I elected to keep my ovaries. When the pathology came back it reveled that I had a endo stroma sarcoma and my doctor advised me to take the ovaries out and must have a second surgery. I did so on July 7 and waiting for the pathology. The first surgery was done laproscopically and I was able to return to work after 3 weeks. The second surgery has been done robotically.

922475 tn?1243962297 I did have some gas pain in my shoulders soon after I woke in recovery. But...I had surgery on Monday and I really feel great. My belly isn't really as sore as I thought it would be. My instructions are activities as tolerated. But, I am taking it easy just to be sure. I only have to miss a week of work. I can get up and down easy. No problems going to the bathroom either. So.. I would recommend this as an easy option to anyone if they get to choose.
Avatar n tn Hi im having partial hysterectomy in july im 36. i have 2 kids and a great husband but we moved from ireland to australia and have no family or proper friends who can help me after op,we run our own buisness just the 2 of us and husband cant take time off to help me im so scared i wont be able to manage on my own any tips .........
518798 tn?1295212279 I still am most concerned with the gas pains. When I had my tubes tied, I came home the same day and I literally thought I would die. Then when I had the hysterectomy 2 years ago, the kept me overnight and I was on a pain pump. Because of that I was able to stay knocked out while I was experiencing the gas pains. I hope and pray they do that this time as well. I figure I am going to have to stay the night since the surgery is scheduled at 12:00.
Avatar f tn I know that is a long shot but my mother in law had lots of pains, gas and bloating and it turned out she had ovarian cancer. I'd find a new doctor. Sincerely. You need better answers than they are providing.
