Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy recovery early menopause

hysterectomy

1149921 tn?1297559913 I have hear that some women experience what is refered to as an early change or menopause following this type of operation (hysterectomy). I know that many women experience menopause in different ways. I just need to know if it possible for a women to experience some minor symptoms in her mid to late 30's and what these symptoms consist of.
Avatar f tn If you really are at the end of menopause, I'd probably consider taking everything. I had uterus removed nearly nine yrs ago, and felt great til the ovarian cysts came last year. I feel like I now have officailly lost 12 months quality of life, as I suffered for 7 months with pain, then had BSO November last year with stage 1A OVCA diagnosed, and will only be starting back at work next week, 4 months post-op. It's a really hard decision.
Avatar f tn I had an abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo oopherectomy. Cancer was detected and some lymph nodes were also removed along with omemtum. Luckily it was in its early stages and the pathology results show that the Cancer hadn't spread therefore I wont need any chemotherapy. this is the best news ever! I'm now at home and recovering slowly. Has anyone gone through this type of surgery? How long did it take to recover? I'm 38 and have no children.
274158 tn?1276347187 I have heard that your ovaries can die and cause you to go into early menopause. Pretty much my ob said that the only thing my uterus does is give me a period every month and carry a baby. I am 30 yrs old and I am not looking forward to hrt, maybe I am overreacting reading things on the internet, so hopefully someone here can give me the real deal information?? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn s fail this many years later? Or could I be entering menopause - oh - 10 years early?? Has anyone else experienced anything like this and have been either pregnant or entering menopause? Thanks for anything you can tell me.
Avatar f tn After my complete hysterectomy a few years ago, I took Soy Menopause from Vitamin World because I couldn't (and didn't want to anyhow) take estrogen. I'm not sure if it is still available or not since I haven't needed it for the last year or so. If you can find it, I would definitely recommend it.
Avatar n tn It does sound like it would be the best solution. I can see what the doctor means. If they leave the ovaries, at least you wouldn't experience surgical menopause, which can be a bit brutal. But you would say goodbye to your womb. How do you feel about that? It might be a good idea, for the sake of your general health. Fibroids naturally shrink after menopause, and often cause no more trouble, but with the kidney involvement, I would say it's best to have the surgery.
Avatar f tn I had a tubal ligation in 2006 and even my 4th GYN was a little concerned about me going through menopause a little early. I forgot to mentioned I had a total thyroidectomy this year 8/2010 and my body and health has not been right since the surgery. My face is thinning, I lost weight but I have been mataining the same weight of 182lbs for 2 months but I just don't look healthy.
Avatar n tn I can't tell you what to do. I do, however, see how common cancer is in your family. There is a strong correlation between breast, bowel and ovarian cancer. You didn't say how old you are, but, still, with your odds......Ii I were you I would have everything removed and deal with surgical menopause. Surgical menopause certainly isn't fun but it is definately better than dealing with cancer. Good luck with your decision making. Please let us know how things go. Peace.
1969625 tn?1536531717 I have had a partial hysterectomy in my early 30's . Only my uterus was removed.
Avatar f tn Thanks alot for that information I really appreciate it!!!
Avatar f tn I would appreciate any advise or recommendations you have about hormone therapy concerns and any info you can share to prepare me for the hysterectomy. I have no idea how long recovery would be. Thanks Much!
491716 tn?1211048106 Oftentimes a hysterectomy will put a woman into early menopause. Those common symptoms of menopause are due to an imbalance of hormones between the gonads (which are now producing much less progesterone) and the adrenal gland, which now needs to take up the slack and begin the produce the now needed progesterone. If this doesn't happen, a woman will become Estrogen Dominant. And that can develop into many other health concerns.
Avatar n tn I suffer painful fibroids and at the moment receiving Zolodex injections which are only licencened for up to 6mths. I have been offered the option of a transvaginal hysterectomy but I don't know what to do.Apparently, fibroids shrink during the menopause and as I am 49 next birthday, should I put myself through this op. Many thanks.
Avatar f tn s and went thru early onset menopause. I have a related condition to POTS- chiari malformation, EDS and tethered cord.....I have not been dx'd with POTS but many chiarians have been. From what I understand it is common to go from hypo to hyper with hashimoto's and the levels change randomly so we do need to keep a close eye on the free T3 and free T4 and TPO antibodies and of course TSH. I pray u get answers that r helpful.
Avatar f tn The system does take longer to set up, but as Cherie points out, the benefit is significantly less soft tissue trauma, less bleeding, and a shorter recovery time...if I end up deciding on doing the hysterectomy, the DaVinci system is at the top of my list. There's always so much to think about!
Avatar m tn That a women needs them long after menopause to protect her bones, heart and avoid early senility. In any event, one day at a time but I know there is a long road ahead. Thanks for your help.

1053613 tn?1255987994 I had my hysterectomy, keeping my ovaries, over 8yrs ago now. Things went along well, and I thought it the best thing I had ever done until a MVA caused alot of abdominal injuries from seatbelt 12months later, which resulted in numerous insicional? hernias and more surgery. Now 6 yrs since my last surgery, I am suffering greatly with ovarian cysts, adhesions and am being monitered for ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn It could be that you are experiencing (really) early menopause symptoms. However, I'd get checked out by a doctor. I wouldn't be too concerned if you get your pap done soon. My mother went through something similar for years and assumed it was early menopause. When her pap results came back they were abnormal. It wasn't cancer, but to stop the symptoms and prevent any other complications (like abnormal cells turning cancerous in the future) she ended up having a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response, No, I have not had these levels checked , nor do I go to an Endocrinologist. I will be going to the doctor and will ask these questions regarding DHEA/cortisol levels. I am trying the higher protein and lower carbs right now and more frequent exercise(3 miles on treadmill daily.
Avatar n tn I am losing my mind here. I am 57 and have been in menopause for about 4 years and am on hormones (Activella. which is perfect for me. ) So i think. Some background.... From 12 when I first got my period to 33 I had perfect periods. No cramps. No excessive bleeding. Then one period my life changed. For the next 20 years I had life-altering cramps and hemorrage type bleeding. Anaprox alleviated the cramps and I lived on it.
Avatar m tn m getting an early glimpse of menopause. Your body natural progression to menopause I would think would be easier to handle to some point. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn I just have a comment or two about menopause some women in early fifties are in premenopause not perimenopause( starts in early 40s) but I have read on the subject and most women early 50s are in menopause..you may be one of the lucky ones my mom was no symptoms one day her period just did not come when it should of and never came back. A very simple blood test will check where you hormones are at to answer this for you. Most have hormonal issues..there are a few options..
