Hysterectomy questions after surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy questions after surgery

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I had my total hysterectomy just over a week ago. I opted for the DaVinvi (robot assisted surgery). I was up walking around the very next day after surgery. For the most part there hasn't been much pain and my incisions (4 very tiny incisions) do not hurt much at all. The only problem I've been experiencing is frequent uninating (very frequent) and now my bladder seems affected. I'm feeling some slight pain when urinating and my stomach has been so upset for a couple days now.
Avatar m tn I have diabetes and blood pressure also and I have read that removal of ovaries results in oestoporosis later on. I worry that I may not have much strength after hysterectomy. Please if someone has gone through a similar case let me know what deicision to take. I don't know if I should take a second opinion to reconsider ovaries bring removed or to listen to the doctors advice.
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar n tn I have seen a OB/GYN who after an exam and ultrasound said that I needed to have surgery and referred me to another doctor. The doctor examined me and said I had a mass on my ovary and has scheduled me for a hysterectomy. This doctor said that he could not tell me if it was cancer or not and would not know until a biopsy was done. Should I get another opinion or go with the surgery.
Avatar f tn I had swelling in my legs too 2 days after surgery. I also had numbness in one of my legs and was so afraid I had a blood clot. I was told mnot to worry that the swelling in my legs were water retenion and that the numbness in my leg was probably due to the positioning during my surgery. 2 days later the swelling and numbness was gone. The bloating is to be expected. I am 2 weeks post surgery and still feel bloated. My sugesstion is not to eat anything heavy for a while.
463897 tn?1468013750 if it took me 2 wks to improve on dizziness after lap/hysterectomy/SBO, any ideas how long the dizziness will last w/ a total knee replacement? Yesterday (12 days afters surgery) was the first day I've felt like myself. I need to be PREPARED before surgery of what exactly to expect, not afterward....when I'm really going to be a pain in the neck calling and asking questions! any words of advice would help .. thanks.
Avatar f tn I am 30 years old and had a Vaginal Hysterectomy 2 months ago today (2 months after having my son). I am still having some pains in my stomach and pains during intercourse. I had my 6 week follow up with my dr and everything was ok at that time. I hadn't had intercourse yet with my husband to think about asking any questions. I also still have a discharge. It's not blood but just a discharge. Is all this normal 2 months after the surgery.
Avatar m tn Losing libido after hysterectomy is something common for women. I would suggest you to start talking about this with your girlfriend, try to be supportive and to comprehend with her emotions. If you both feel that you need more help I would suggest a vista to someone specialized , maybe a sexologist.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I see my doctor once more before surgery and have a list of questions from preop diet to post op medications etc. Has anyone had this experience recently? I was told it would take six weeks to recover- I've never even had one sick day and hate having to take the time off work. I'm so worried that when they go in they will find something else or that it is cancer, even though I know it is so rare.
Avatar f tn m having laporscopic surgery done Tuesday and may have to have a full hysterectomy (I have ovarian complex cysts and possible endometriosis) but I was wondering from either surgery #1-how long will I bleed and #2-how MUCH will I bleed?? Oh, also having a D&C. I love reading these posts...I feel better knowing other people are going through the same things!!
1809377 tn?1316520328 I am very concerned with how I will feel after the surgery. I am having it done with not my normal GYN, but a second opinion GYN I went to see after not feeling comfortable with what my GYN of 7 years told me, which was to have a full (total) hysterectomy if Lupron did not work. I do not know all the details of the partial hysterectoy, all I know is that she is leaving the ovaries as long as they are in good shape.
Avatar f tn The DaVinci Robot adds a helpful tool for complex surgery such as radical cancer surgery (radical hysterectomy) or surgery on people who may be challenging because of their size (very over weight).
Avatar f tn m done having kids and pre-menopausal, the doctors and I opted for a complete hysterectomy via abd. surgery. I had it 04/08, and am feeling worlds better. I know it's very important to keep what you can... and there are reasons for wanting to keep that ovary. But it's a situation you and your doctor/onc. should evaluate. While I may need HRT down the line, or have complications later, this invasive surgery is something I can only live through once. I was blessed.
Avatar f tn Old I have had symtoms of endometriosis and extreme pain for 15yrs and throughout the years was never diagnosed with it even after several surgeries UNTIL this year and ended up having a hysterectomy and after that I felt ok for about 8wks then I started having the same pain if not worse in some areas. I was told by 1 doc.
Avatar n tn Going in for surgery Nov17'08. The total hysterectomy, hernia and sling will be performed. I am very nervous after reviewing this site and the "horror" stories told. I have fibroids pressing against the badder, which is now, poorly distended, a overly large uterus ,as well as a hernia. I have a calcified kidney stone"which is being "guarded".
Avatar f tn Someone on the anxiety forum posted awhile back about people with panic attacks feeling alot better after having a total hysterectomy and their panic attacks stop. Does anyone have any experience with panic disorder and having a hysterectomy?
Avatar n tn I wish there was an answer for all these other female victims who were not given full information on what their lives would be like after their surgery. I only agreed to having my uterus removed, but once you are under they do whatever they want. Mine was a radical mutilation, something I regret every minute of the day and night with constant pain that makes me scream from sitting down or getting up.
Avatar m tn ve since had ops for ectopic pregnancies, womb ablation, subtotal hysterectomy (31 yrs old, 6 months after ablation). During my hysterectomy my surgeon had to separate my uterus from my bowel, bladder, cervix and ovary. Everything was stuck together due to scar tissue/pelvic adhesions. My surgeon believed that the pelvic adhesions were the cause of the horrific pain I was experiencing. I was fine for approx 3 years after my hysterectomy when the cramping and back pain returned with a vengeance.
Avatar f tn He tells me it is not common for this to happen after hysterectomy. He was very good at answering all my questions, I just thought of more once I got home. How did you get so knowledgable, personal experience or do you have some medical training? Seeing the pain is gone, I am tempted to cancel the surgery, so looking to get as much info as I can first. I have an appointment with my GP in a few weeks and will also talk to her about it.
Avatar f tn I just concerned about breast cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer and I honestly want and Complete Hysterectomy. I had a tubal ligation in 2006 and even my 4th GYN was a little concerned about me going through menopause a little early. I forgot to mentioned I had a total thyroidectomy this year 8/2010 and my body and health has not been right since the surgery.
1840640 tn?1318613270 wanted to see if my intestines would go back to their normal position after Hysterectomy surgery. Anyway I guess I will have to wait for my check up and ask him. I am just impatient. Thanks again for caring and support.
566073 tn?1219434819 The second surgery was a vertical cut from belly button to bikini line for full hysterectomy. I found the first surgery to be more taxing on my energy and harder to recover from, but I knew what to expect from the first surgery so I think that helped. I knew to make sure and walk as soon as I could in the hospital, and to take the pain medicine they offered it does help healing better. Everyone is different though, but I found the hysterectomy a breeze compared to first surgery.
