Hysterectomy ovaries

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy ovaries

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn Depends on the reason for a hysterectomy. The ovaries are usually left because it delays menopause but if cancer is involved then ovaries will also be removed.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had there ovaries removed with there hysterectomy? If so, how do you feel emotionally with menopause and do you know how long menopause lasts?
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn A total hysterectomy removes the entire uterus. It is the ovaries that are most critical for sexual function because they control hormones. If they were going to remove the tubes and ovaries it would be total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Many conditions can be treated with less invasive procedures than hysterectomy these days. A second opinion may be in order.
Avatar m tn If she had a hysterectomy, she can't be pregnant now. Especially, if she doesn't have her ovaries, she will have no egg to create an embryo. If she genuinely is pregnant now, she can't have had a hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn Hi Devon- I had a partial hysterectomy in 1997, the Dr left the ovaries for the hormones- I developed ovarian cancer in 2009- fortunately it was stage 1
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar n tn Your ovaries provide hormones that keep you in the reproductive stage of your life. When the ovaries slow down or stop functioning (as in a total hysterectomy) then you go into menopause. I am in menopause and dealing with hot flashes daily. My sister had chemo and radiation for breast cancer. Chemo targets fast growing cells which includes cancer cells, ovaries, and hair (which explains why you go bald). She is now in full blown menopause.
Avatar f tn i am 51 in menopause and have a huge family history with cancer, The dr recently found a tumor in my ovary and recommended taking both out.... any thoughts on also having a hysterectomy at the same time?
Avatar n tn My hypothesis is that the UAE (uterine artery embolization), to eliminate her fibroid, inadvertently targeted her ovaries and the subsequent hysterectomy caused a severe case of affective illness that has again greatly impacted her health and our life together.
1809377 tn?1316520328 getting my ovaries removed. She mentioned women who get their ovaries removed at a younger age tend to have a higher risk of these conditions. She is removing the cervix because of my endometriosis history which is a stage 4 as well as a history of HPV - abnormal paps (pre-cancer cells). For the time being with my ovaries, I won't have the need for hormonal replacement. At least that is what we are hoping for, things have been pretty bad & my left ovary has been hurting a lot.
Avatar f tn Does the doctor want to take the ovaries because the hysterectomy is planned to b vaginal? I'd go the abdominal route if it meant keeping my ovaries. Or is he wanting to take the ovaries 'just because'? (I've heard doctors think this is a good idea because they are in there already, because "I always have to go back in 6 months and get them anyway" or because "that way you will never have to worry about ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn Hi AnitL, I had a hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries in Jan of 2008. I sincerely wish I could have left at least one ovary. My maternal Grandmother died from ovarian cancer. Even knowing that I wish saving my ovaries had been possible. IMHO if your ovaries are healthy keep them! It has taken quite a while to start to feel like myself again. I do use an estrogen patch. Have you read Screaming to be Heard by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet? I highly recommend it!
Avatar f tn They have likely atrophied due to your hysterectomy and loss of blood flow and feedback loop with the uterus. The ovaries naturally shrink after menopause but they continue to produce hormones at least until age 80 in women who have all their parts. These hormones are essential to every aspect of health. Do a web search for "pubmed bilateral oophorectomy long term health" to understand the many repercussions / adverse effects of having ovaries (part of the endocrine system) removed.
10905170 tn?1414131788 Women who have endometriosis and have their ovaries removed at the time of hysterectomy sometimes report the symptoms you are experiencing. The likely reason in this scenario is that any remaining endo implants produce estrogen which is why they say that hysterectomy is not a cure for endo.
Avatar f tn I'm not certain what all you already know, or what you need to know, so here's my simple "hysterectomy lecture" for future readers. :-) The word "hysterectomy" actually refers only to removal of the uterus. The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery.
2004742 tn?1327656482 I want baby with my husband and 11 years ago I had my ovaries and cervix removed. Can I still have a baby?
Avatar n tn I know this is responding to an old post, but I noticed someone said no PMS symptoms after hysterectomy. That is not true at all. Although the symptoms are very different. If one still has two functioning ovaries you will still face the (EMOTIONS, CRAVINGS, HEADACHES, SORE BOOBS ETC). I had a hysterectomy a bit over 6 months ago. For the first 3 months after the hysterectomy I was fine (but I didn't realize my ovaries had been asleep I guess). Oh did they wake up!!
804498 tn?1238100998 I agree with the above poster. If you've had a full hysterectomy, removal of uterus and ovaries, there is no way you can get pregnant and deliver a baby.
Avatar f tn I am 36 YO. I am 2 years post hysterectomy. Since having my hysterectomy I have recurrent yeast infections (which has been verified via gyno) Before my hysterectomy I had 2 yeast infections my whole life. From what I've read it seems to be a common issue among women who've had a hysterectomy. I guess I'm curious as to what the causes could be. I had read that the ovaries stop functioning properly more quickly after a hysterectomy and he said no.
Avatar f tn Did they leave your ovaries or was it a total hysterectomy? If you have ovaries, there is a chance of an ectopic pregnancy if by some chance a sperm met an egg. Easy enough to check, take a pregnancy test.
Avatar f tn I too had a complete hysterectomy and have my ovaries. A "Radical" hysterectomy with when they take everything. Anyway. I didn't have symptoms as bad as yours but I swore I was going through menopause and all doc's said no. I still don't believe them. You are having all the symptoms of menopause and I did as well. I went on estrogen and it helped alot. Not having a Uterus helps with the main problem of possible uterine cancer from ERT.
1969625 tn?1536531717 I have had a partial hysterectomy in my early 30's . Only my uterus was removed.
Avatar n tn Some doctors call a hysterectomy just removal of the uterus. For my full debulking hysterectomy I had my uterus, cervix, both ovaries, both fallopian tubes and full omentum apron and my appendix... Did you have your ovaries removed? If you did you could have remnant ovarie tissue that has cysts.. you need to ask more questions... I hope you find the answers...
