Hysterectomy menopause and weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy menopause and weight gain

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn Do you mean you had a partial hysterectomy at 30? (Just the uterus removed?) A total hysterectomy means you would have had the ovaries removed also, and would have gone through menopause at that time. I don't think estradiol will make you gain weight. It might even help you lose a little, or at least make your abdomen seem less bloated.
Avatar n tn I have always heard that weight gain is inevitable after a hysterectomy, but does that also apply if you are having one AFTER menopause ? Will bio identical hormones help with this ?
Avatar f tn I have just my right ovaries and fall. tube. I have gained alot of weight and I dont know if I should consult my OB doctor or an Endo ( I have half of a thyroid ). I had to have a hysterectomy because of a cyst that had infection all around it. Shortly after I thought I was all swollen from that, they went threw holes in the stomach instead of cutting me. I thought I would go down to size of where I was before the surgery but needless to say I never went down, I kept gaining.
634218 tn?1228151139 Have you seen your doctor to ask him if the pain meds is causing the weight gain? Don't feel bad, I'm gaining weight too for no reason at all :( I had a hysterectomy in Feb 2008.
Avatar f tn my gyny has confirmed removal of both ovaries and the cyst.. I had a hysterectomy 6 yrs ago and a laparotomy 22yrs ago when i was pregnant. I,m worried about being plunged into the menopause over night and also wondered whether anyone else has noticed increased weight especially around the midrife..and i also have a pain between my shoulder blades around the bra strap area which really hurts??
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy last summer and have struggled with weight gain for the past year. Last fall I was diagnosed with pericardial infusion (fluid around the heart). Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Hypo (TSH of 20.691), which can cause fluid around the heart. I was wondering if the hysterectomy/menopause caused the thyroid problems, but maybe it is coincidence. I have been on 50 MCG Levoxyl for two weeks. I am amazed at the energy I have.
Avatar f tn I am leaning towards getting the surgery this summer. I am concerned about going into menopause, possible weight gain, emotional changes, and risks with hormone supplements...... However, I'm more concerned about cancer! I do not smoke, I am not over weight (I could stand to lose a little weight ;-)))) and am in good health. I would appreciate any advise or recommendations you have about hormone therapy concerns and any info you can share to prepare me for the hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn Hello sir, I received a full hysterectomy in 2004 and I have been in menopause every since. I have tried every over-the-counter remedy known. I also tried a very low dose of hormones and got sick with them. I am really trying to figure out a way for the " hot flashes", mood swings, and weight gain to taper off. I am 41and I am experiencing excessive facial hair, as well as body hair. This has been the worst experience for me. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Avatar n tn Mainly now I am still dealing with the insomnia, panic, weight gain and constipation and the overall pain. What is this and why do I feel so crappy? I never knew menopause was so horrible AND I MEAN HORRIBLE. If someone had told me when I was in my 20s that... oh yeah and guess what when you hit your 50s your gonna wish you were dead rather than feel like you hit a wall physically (figuratively speaking) EVERYDAY. This is hell srsly. I never knew I would hit meno age and feel this poorly.

Avatar f tn However, hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) does seem to be linked to weight gain (I have read about 25 lbs. the first year post-op). Even when the ovaries are left in place, compromised ovarian function or complete failure are common which is probably the cause of the weight gain. But even when ovaries continue to function, there may be some other mechanism for the weight gain. The uterus, ovaries, and tubes work as a unit / system a woman's whole life.
Avatar f tn So I have looked up symptoms of ovarian cysts and one that caught my eye was weight gain. Has anyone ever gained weight because of cysts? I can not seem to lose any weight. I wonder if the cysts are causing this?
1089270 tn?1257174234 I had a Complete Hysterectomy (Surgical Menopause) and have gained over 30 pounds. Prior to this surgery, I was athletic and toned. The lack of hormones taken during surgery make me less energetic. I have been taking natural hormones and feel better. I have joined Curves and have been feeling better. I am bound and determined to get this weight off. I use to weigh 140 and now I weigh 179. I know it will take some time to remove this weight, but I know I can do it! One day at a time.
Avatar m tn I had a total hysterectomy at 35 and was immediately put on hormone pills and then weaned off them after a few years and have not had a menopause as it is commonly thought of...But I have gotten older, and have less activity now and always gain weight in the winter months even though I don't eat too much more food then I did before. I think as we get older we have to use our body more, even more then we did when we were younger.
Avatar f tn Why would you be given estrogen with elevated estrogen? My reasons for weight gain/difficulty losing weight were severe insulin resistance and untreated hypothyroidism. My hip to waist ratio was 0.96 due to insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn Can a normal sized cyst on one overy cause a distended stomach and weight gain?
Avatar f tn However for this you need to consult your Doctor. Also a healthy diet and regular exercise will help keep weight in control and also help with the tiredness. Supplements of multi-vitamins can be taken. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I just concerned about breast cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer and I honestly want and Complete Hysterectomy. I had a tubal ligation in 2006 and even my 4th GYN was a little concerned about me going through menopause a little early. I forgot to mentioned I had a total thyroidectomy this year 8/2010 and my body and health has not been right since the surgery.
Avatar f tn I had a total hysterectomy in Jan. I weighed 140! It's now Sept and Im 40 pounds heavier! Help I feel disgusting and the weight is all in my tummy! Are there any medical treatments to help me lose this weight?
1046985 tn?1305117048 My concern is that once I get my ovaries removed, (within the next few months hopefully) and I go through instant menopause, I will gain even more weight. Has anyone got any advice, or stories of hope. I have heard that ovarian problems can cause weight gain, and that its almost a given with menopause, aaargh..
Avatar f tn My symptoms are getting way worse and with the pcos all the weight gain in my mid-section is embarrassing...people mistake me for being pregnant. I heard you can gain more weight with a hysterectomy though.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer On May 29, 2007, they did complete hysterectomy and removed greater omentum. It was stage 1 which was wonderful news. I had 3 chemo treatments just for precautionary reasons. I have put on over 20 lbs in very short period of time, and am not eating that much to have gained so much, so quick. I have especially gained a tire around my abdomen. Has anyone else experienced this problem.
Avatar f tn so can anybody tell me if it is common to gain weight after hysterectomy or is that just depending on the medicine you're given for hormones
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago and noticed an increase in the symptoms of menopause, especially hot flashes. My gynocologist perscribed estrogel which I have found somewhat helpful for the hot flashes, but I had lost 30 lbs before the surgery, and now have gained it all back and more. I feel very drained mentally, physically and emotionally. I prefer not to used synthetic drugs and hormones. Can you recommend a relief for the hot flashes, and maybe the rest of the unwanted symptoms.
