hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in 4 days. I started my period and will be on the light days at the end by the time i have surgery. Is this a contraindication for proceeding with the surgery or can this procedure occur at any time during the menstrual cycle?
Avatar f tn Hi. I am having laparoscopic hysterectomy with ovary removel.(Brca gene) I have a one year old baby. I was told I can't pick up anything over 10pounds. No yoga or anything either . For 4 weeeks. Wow is this really true?? Is there a procedure with better post op recovery?
Avatar f tn Due to my diagnosis I was not a candidate for a laparoscopic procedure. I would prepare for the abdominal surgery so you have everything you need in case your doctor ends up going that route. Surgical menopause can be a difficult time for many ladies. Your doctor has probably already discussed hormones. I found a patch worked and still works really well for me. It took me a good 6 to 8 weeks to heal.
Avatar f tn they were all great but I am still scared that I will never feel normal again. This is my fourth surgery in seven years including a complete hysterectomy. This is my first attempt at excision and I could use some reassurance from any of you who have had success with this surgery....thanks!
Avatar f tn your pain is probably mostly associated with recovering from the surgery. Last month I had a laparoscopic surgery, and had a laparotomy 4 days later because of internal bleeding from the first procedure. I still am very sore, and dealing with pain a month later! So, hang in there, and I hope you start to feel better soon!
Avatar m tn Surgeries change throughout the years. Laparoscopic surgery is great as well as the healing time is much quicker. Myself, I would go laparoscopic as it is a much faster recovery as I stated before. But I would definite talk to you gyn first. Good luck.
Avatar f tn The DaVinci Robot adds a helpful tool for complex surgery such as radical cancer surgery (radical hysterectomy) or surgery on people who may be challenging because of their size (very over weight).
Avatar n tn It's so hard to say what may happen. They may want to do a laparoscopic procedure to get a good look at what is there. If it's nothing serious, they may not do anything at all. They may decide to remove only the cyst. They may decide to remove the ovary and the cyst. If they're concerned, maybe they will do a hysterectomy. We have all been through these surgeries. They are well worth the trouble and recovery to be healthy! Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. Recently I was diagnosed with endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS). I had a leep procedure and that's how it was discovered. I'm now scheduled to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I get to keep my ovaries. I'm 31, no children and I don't want any so that's not a problem for me. But I'm still struggling. I'm scared to have the hysterectomy because the recovery process seems so long and painful and one of my biggest fears is pain.
Avatar f tn He has suggested a partial hysterectomy to remove the uterus and then repair the bladder and rectal area. My concern is leaving the ovaries and fallopian tubes to futher increase the chances of ovarian cancer. I have also have had a history of abnormal pap smears. What do I need to be concerned about?
Avatar f tn I have no experience or knowledge of your experience, but I was curious whether your operation for ovary and tube removal in 2005 was via laparoscopic surgery or open laparotomy?
Avatar n tn ), uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes. The procedure he used was called lavh, laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. I feel a lot better for it though. For me, I have a family history cervical and uterine cancer, which why the gynecologist took out everything. From what I understand though, there are other cancers us women can get. One would be cancer of the vulva and the other would be cancer of the vagina. That's all I know.
Avatar n tn Therefore, they proceeded with the laparotomy so they could do the frozen sections. During the surgery, they discovered that I had extensive endometriosis. After recovering at home, two months later, I had an MRI because I was experiencing severe abdominal pains. I developed another cyst 13cm on my left ovary. My doctor suggests that I get a hysterectomy. I do not want to try any medications because I feel that they will only mask the problem and eventually I will have to deal with it.
Avatar f tn I am 2 weeks post op....hysterectomy...I am experiencing severe left sided low back pain... Could this be related to the surgery?
Avatar n tn Please have her consider a laparoscopic procedure to resuspend the uterus to the ligaments (called a laparoscopic colpopexy). This is a procedure that can reattach the uterine ligaments using sutures, and can replace the vagina into a position resembling normal. She gets to keep her uterus, and can have pregnancies in the future, but I would recommend cesarean delivery to prevent further insult to the ligaments.
Avatar f tn I am a 26 year old nurse g1,p1 that is going to be having (take a deep breath here....) a vaginal hysterectomy, bilat salpingectomy with ovarian preservation with enterocele repair, mayo-mcCall Cudoplasty, anterior colporrhophy , posterior colpoperneurrhophy, pubovaginal sling, cystoscopy with placement of temporary suprapubic tube. (phew.. that's a long list!) And i'm nervous as can be. I have great trust in my surgeon and he has a great reputation...
Avatar n tn Point being that it is considered unnecessary surgery and has its risks like any other surgery. Trudie is so right.. There are many reasons not to have the hysterectomy and frankly I don't think you'd be able to find a Dr.willing to perform one on healthy organs or an Insurance Company to pay for it ! It isn't something to be taken lightly. I'm also wondering why the results are taking so long. Usually they only take a few days. I would call and ask why the delay..
Avatar m tn It can also be treated surgically and this procedure is known as drilling. Other modes of treatment are laparoscopic surgery, laparotomy or surgery for complicated ovarian cysts. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
1670196 tn?1306841245 m not sure what which procedure the doctor is going to use to perform. I had mine via LAVH, Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy. I really hurt for a solid week. But after that, I started feeling sore but okay. I feel good now. I do have days where I'll see a little baby, like newborn, and I'll feel a knot rise up in my gut. It's like seeing the baby is a solid reminder, total slap in the face, that I'll never, ever have another baby for the rest of my life.
1809377 tn?1316520328 Can anyone tell me what symptoms, discomforts, recoverty time, how long were you left in th hospital ect.? I know it will be done via laparoscopic surgery, if need too, vaginally assisted. I will get more information tomorrow. Thank you!!
Avatar f tn It seems that I DO have a cyst on the other ovary and she wants/plans to remove both ovaries via Laparoscopic Surgery. Just found this out....slightly blown away by this 'new addition'. Okay, now that I know 'which' procedure i'm having can anyone advise me of what to expect in the areas of 'recovery'? I think i'll need to know all this so I can 'adjust my work schedule' with my boss....
Avatar n tn m curious to if others have have had dermoid cysts come back after laparotomy AND has anyone had laparoscopic surgery after laparotomy and scar tissue been an issue? Thank you in advance!!!
701563 tn?1228359916 She is also planning on doing an endometrial biopsy when she inserts the IUD since she was unable to do one during the surgery. Or, my other option would be to have a hysterectomy. She really wants to try the first option and only perform the hysterectomy as the very last resort. My big concern is leaving the polyp and what that does to my chances of getting uterine cancer. Is having a biopsy without being able to test the polyp itself still good enough to detect if it is cancerous or not?
Avatar m tn If I still need to do some that it will be a laparoscopic hysterectomy recovery time is 2 weeks versus abdominal hysterectomy 8-10 weeks recovery time. God Bless you both and anyone else that's going through this!
Avatar f tn Patients usually go home the same day of the laparoscopic surgery. There may be a few occasions, such as persistent nausea/vomiting, pain control, or urinary retention, that a patient is kept overnight and sent home the morning after surgery. Recovery is usually 1-2 weeks long. Nothing should be placed in the vagina for 2 weeks, unless a total hysterectomy or any vaginal procedure has been performed.
Avatar n tn I can't be sure if it is the same thing...read this "Surpassing the limits of conventional laparoscopic surgery, da Vinci is revolutionizing gynecologic surgery for women. No wonder more and more women are choosing da Vinci Surgery for their hysterectomy. In fact, since it was cleared by the FDA in 2005, surgeons have performed more than 100,000 da Vinci Hysterectomies.
Avatar f tn Surgery was last Friday. I had the Da Vinci procedure and have had a wonderful recovery. I've had almost no pain, no bruising, no adverse affect except I feel tired by early afternoon. However, today I started to feel something funny when I urinate - not pain or burning, but a sort of pulling sensation in my urethra and perhaps my bladder. Is this common, a week after surgery? I was catheterized for about 18 hours. What shocked me was the size of my mass.
