Hysterectomy kept ovaries

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy kept ovaries

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn s really doubtful a hysterectomy would help me. If it had helped I could have kept taking it or have a hysterectomy to make it permanent. By having a hysterectomy your basically putting yourself in menopause. If you try a menopause mimicking drug and it works then I'd strongly consider a hysterectomy but if it doesn't work then a hysterectomy probably won't help.
Avatar f tn Does the doctor want to take the ovaries because the hysterectomy is planned to b vaginal? I'd go the abdominal route if it meant keeping my ovaries. Or is he wanting to take the ovaries 'just because'? (I've heard doctors think this is a good idea because they are in there already, because "I always have to go back in 6 months and get them anyway" or because "that way you will never have to worry about ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy soon. The doctor wants to take my ovaries. My mom and both of her sisters have had hysterectomy's. My mother and 1 aunt had early onset of Alzheimers. both took premarin. I have read and studied that HRT's like premarin have a high risk of dementia and heart disease? since my dad had heart disease and most of his siblings and family have had heart problems I am worried. I have Endometrosis and also prolapsed Uteris.
Avatar f tn I had a total abdominal hysterectomy 4 weeks ago and now my skin is so greasy! I kept my ovaries. Does anyone else have this?
Avatar f tn How long do you have to deal with the effects of Prednisone? I had a hysterectomy on 12/14 but kept my ovaries(they had to give me a dose of steroids then too so that my adrenal glands would kick in) Im very frustrated, any advice is greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn For one, you were not told the truth about ovarian function after hysterectomy. There is a good chance (about 40%) that the ovaries will fail after hysterectomy due to the loss of blood flow. But even women who appear to have "normal" ovarian function after hysterectomy suffer with they same symptoms as you. It is a myth that the uterus is disposable after childbearing. It has hormonal, anatomical, skeletal, and sexual functions.
274158 tn?1276347187 Having only your uterus removed will NOT cause your ovaries to stop functioning. As long as your ovaries are working, you will not have menopausal symptoms. You may want to discuss with your doctor the advisability of a supracervical hysterectomy [where the cervix is not removed]. Personally, I see no advantage in this, as it leaves in place a useless organ that can become cancerous.
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy in May-kept my ovaries. I am having severe pain in lower left pelvic area.
Avatar f tn Your back and rib cage pain (and possibly leg pain) could be an indication of bone loss which can occur fairly rapidly after the ovaries are removed (or shut down after hysterectomy). But hysterectomy (uterus removal) even when ovaries are not removed destroys pelvic integrity since the ligaments that hold the uterus in place are the support structures for the torso.
Avatar f tn hysterectomy in November of 2015 (cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes were removed-kept ovaries) and it seems like my hormones are crazier than ever now! Before my surgery I suffered from palpitations, migraines, etc. around that time of the month. Now my migraines are horrible POST surgery! I was in the bed for 3-4 days last month because I could barely function without getting nauseated or dizzy and my head just pounded.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy in September, I still have both ovaries but no uterus. I was having pain on my left side 3 days ago(still am) I went to the ER, they did a CT scan and the results I received are: 9cm circumscribed Lt adenexal systic lesion w/mural mass, cannot exclude neoplasm. 2.5 cm cystoc right adenexal, no free fluid or sig pelvic adenopathy. I was told to make appt as soon as possible. Can't see the Dr. until next Tuesday. Can you please tell me what this means.
Avatar f tn I too have had a total hysterectomy a year ago and kept my ovaries. I had acne and now it's gone for the most part my ovaries fluctuate as if I had gotten pregnant, started menopause, puberty, then again normal, like clockwork. My depression comes, my weight has increased, not sure the answer for you yet as too when this will subside, one day I have normal lubrication, next it's too much, then it's dry and cycles around again. I was told it will stabilize but not there yet.
1949068 tn?1449628519 Hi, A partial hysterectomy should not lead to hot flashes and symptoms of menopause, as the ovaries are kept intact. Hot flashes occur because of hormonal imbalance. Also feeling drained can be because of anaemia, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance etc. Please check out with your Doctor for a thorough evaluation. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn t want to take that chance--you can have a hysterectomy with conservation of ovaries--just ask the doctor to leave them alone unless they have problems! Hope this helps! Good luck!
1053613 tn?1255987994 Having your ovaries removed will be a decision only you and your Dr can make. My mother had a hysterectomy at 27, she's 67 now, and kept her ovaries and has had no problems. Of course all women are different and there's really no way to tell if you'll have problems later on by keeping them. Please let us know what you decide when you see your Dr. Take care.
Avatar n tn A related discussion, <a href="/posts/Womens-Health/Feels-just--like-menstrual-cramping/show/2143426">Feels just like menstrual cramping...</a> was started.
Avatar n tn Depends on the reason for a hysterectomy. The ovaries are usually left because it delays menopause but if cancer is involved then ovaries will also be removed.
Avatar f tn I had a vaginal hysterectomy two years ago due to extremely heavy bleeding, FLOODING! I kept my ovaries. I healed well and felt good for awhile but for the last month I have been experiencing back pain and abdominal pain mostly on my left side. This is exactly how I felt when I would have bad menstrual cramps. But I don't know why I'm having these pains now. I am seeing my gyno. in a couple of weeks and I have a colonoscopy scheduled in december.
1481509 tn?1287614693 I had a partial hysterectomy in 2001 (ovaries intact). Kept having pain in right groin/pelvic area. In 2002, my right ovary was removed to supposedly to alleviate the problem, it didn't. I have been living with this chronic pain ever since. Is this somewhat common when a woman has a hysterectomy? Or was there not enough pain management given after surgery?
Avatar f tn I soak the bedding every night. May be 25 sweats a night. I wish I could have kept my ovaries. They could probably do ovaries as a day surgery. It has to be your decision and I would stick by you. No one told me what would happen after. I wish I had at least been told by the doctor.
667078 tn?1316000935 I had diaphragm pain once a a week at least. It was like having the wind knocked out of me. My Ovaries hurt. I kept going in and saying something is not right. I had three endometrial biopsies and a a endometrial ablatian. I also had many ultrasounds.I am glad I had my hysterectomy and I am alive so is my husband.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had there ovaries removed with there hysterectomy? If so, how do you feel emotionally with menopause and do you know how long menopause lasts?
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn A total hysterectomy removes the entire uterus. It is the ovaries that are most critical for sexual function because they control hormones. If they were going to remove the tubes and ovaries it would be total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Many conditions can be treated with less invasive procedures than hysterectomy these days. A second opinion may be in order.
