Hysterectomy keep an ovary

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy keep an ovary

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn My surgeion wants to take both during the surgery but so many women are telling me to keep the one that has not had any cysts on it. Is there an advantage to keeping your ovary after menopause?
Avatar f tn it had eaten up the ovary and was malignant. they now want to perform a hysterectomy possibly followed by chemo to zap any cancer completely. Am i crazy to be considering still to try and conceive. my hysterectomy is scheduled for 2 days time.
1053613 tn?1255987994 thats really a hard choice, the cons are many your going to be thrown into a instant menopause, and the symptoms of that could be mild -hell. the pro is you will never have to worry of ovarian cancer and its difficult to find ovarian cancer on a post hyster woman in early stages.
709777 tn?1265916006 I had a sub total hysterectomy in '03. Since May of '09 I have had bleeding, pain, diagnosed with FibroMyalgia and OA, I experience alot of pain as it is and my left shoulder is a primary source of pain. My physical therapist says the shoulder is a source of "referred pain" and "often a sign of a systemic source". I have an exohpytic lesion found "near the left ovary" on the two ultrasounds I have had as well as a hemorahgic cyst within the right ovary.
Avatar n tn but for the last year i have had pain in my left ovary. well i have done an ultrasound and i wont know my results until the 17th of november. but the pain wont go away. i cant deal with it anymore. i just need to know if im to young to have a hystorectomy. i dont want anymore children. and i only want to have one surgery. can you answer these questions for me.
Avatar n tn You need to ask your Dr exactly what was removed during your hysterectomy. If both ovaries were removed then the Dr has screwed up or thats not an ovary showing on the scan.
14774527 tn?1436560759 I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago (at 24). I was able to keep my left ovary. Ive had no problems. But over the last several months ive gotten really moody, nothing makes me happy, im always grouchy. Ive been told that there could be a chance thar my ovary may one day not oroduce enough hormones. Is this true? Are there any signs or symptoms? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I'm due for a hysterectomy next weds, mainly due to the fact I have high grade pre-cancerous cells in my cervix for the third time. I still don't know if I should keep my remining ovary or not. I lost the left one In april after a football sized mucinous ovarian cyst ruptured. I had no idea I had a cyst at all, the symptoms were digused by the fact I was pregnant but lost the baby 3 days before at 23 weeks. I had a lapratomy and was staged as 1a borderline or LMP tumor.
Avatar n tn a ultrasound for lower back pain right side pain constipation and frequent urination but that one isainly at night and first thi.g in the morning i have a. hysterectomy 2 years ago only leaving my ovarys my right ovary is doulbe the size toy left 2.76 x 3.86 x 5.25 and volume 9.
1022162 tn?1258069511 I had the identical situation..I had a hysterectomy first then a year later a BSO my left ovary had a large cyst that kept reappering and causing great pain sometimes rupturing. My right ovary was completly healthy, I choose to have both removed, honest if I could go back I would have choose to keep it......nothing can touch the natural hormones your body makes...
1086111 tn?1256514891 If you think the pain is beyond bearable, beyond the worst menstrual cramps imaginable, it could mean a need to visit an ER. It is considered an emergency if twisting is severe enough to cut off blood supply to the area, requiring emergency surgery. Many times, the pain episode is a temporary one, not an emergency but definitely unpleasant. Do you know the size/type of the cyst and what the doctor has recommended be done about it?
Avatar n tn I always had cysts on my right ovary but my doctor told me is was better to keep my ovaries than not. Since the hysterectomy, I have continued to have cysts on the right ovary. Lately I have alot of pain on my lower right side and down my right leg. I am nauseated almost everyday. I have alot of gas buildup and my stomach is swollen. I feel like I need to start my period because my lower stomach feels so heavy and uncomfortable like when I actually had a period.
Avatar f tn The patient appears to have had a previous hysterectomy. The right ovary is not identified. The mass seen along the left pelvic side wall may correspond to a retained left ovary, but it is atypical. ULTRASOUNDS: HISTORY: Indeterminate pelvic wall mass seen on CT of the same day. This study is performed both transabdominally and transvaginally. There is a 4.4 x 3.0 x 3.4 CM heterogeneously hypoechoic solid mass in the pelvic to the left of midline.
Avatar f tn Hope your surgeries went well I am having surgery on a 14 cm multicomplex cyst on my left ovary which killed most of my ovary. Doctor said he would try to save some of it and keep the fallopian tube. Worse part of this all aside from the excruciating pain, pregnant belly and swollen feet is the waiting to see if I will receive a hysterectomy if it is cancerous. This is the worst wait of my life- I am only 20 and would really like to know how it went and if you received a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn Just days before the hysterectomy I was told I had a nodule on my left ovary. The dr went ahead and did the hysterectomy and took my fallopian tube. After she ordered an ultrasound and I was told the nodule was gone. When dealing with my gastro dr I was complaining about the same pain I’ve had for over a year now in the flank area wondering if he could help or find something because no one seems interested and they make me feel like I’m making it up.
Avatar f tn My tube was twisted around my ovary - I had a partial hysterectomy and that took care of it. It could be a cyst on the ovary - I hope and pray that the doctor is able to take care of it soon.
Avatar n tn (It is bigger than my uterus) Now I have to make an appointment for a hysterectomy. He said I can keep my left ovary if I want. So I got pictures today and that is all.
Avatar f tn He did not give me any sizes on the cysts, just let me see them on the u/s. The one on my rt. ovary is interior and fills over half the ovary. He also noted that the right ovary was much smaller than the left. I will take your advice and request the blood work during the follow-up as well as the CT if the cysts are still present or have grown. I was very suprised that they appeared in such a short time between tests and that does have me concerned.
Avatar n tn ( now the pain is there on all days) i underwent laproscopic surgery 7 months ago. and had my left ovary removed.the fluid in the cysts of the right ovary was suctioned out.i was on lupride 11.25mg. 5 months i did not get my periods. wen i got it the pain is back. a recent scan showed the abv mentioned report. Is hysterectomy the only and the final solution in my case? iam having severe pain which was only during periods and has now become an every day affair.
Avatar f tn The question is should I keep my left ovary or not? I suffer from menstrual migraines and they have gotten worse over the past 3 -6 months. I'm thinking maybe take them both out and go on HRT. At least then the Hormones would be at a steady level all the time. I'm curious if anyone has had experience with menstrual migraines and did they go away after the removal of your ovaries?
Avatar n tn What would cause an onset of vaginal bleeding or spotting 16 years after hysterectomy? I am 41 yrs old. When I was 25 yrs. I had to have a more partial hysterectomy due to Endometriosis.I have one ovary left, but everything else is gone.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 34 years old I have 1 child and 4 years ago I had a hysterectomy but they left my ovaries since then I have been getting cyst on both my ovaries ranging from 2 centimetres up to 9. I had one removed from my left ovary which was cancer-free. I am going to go see my Dr on Friday my question is do any of you think I should just tell him to take both my ovaries out and how long do any of you think I will have to stay in the hospital.
Avatar f tn I had a large dermoid cyst on one ovary. I am an obese woman, with diabetes and HBP too. Because doing surgery on someone as big as me was risky, and because I'm done having kids and pre-menopausal, the doctors and I opted for a complete hysterectomy via abd. surgery. I had it 04/08, and am feeling worlds better. I know it's very important to keep what you can... and there are reasons for wanting to keep that ovary. But it's a situation you and your doctor/onc.
Avatar f tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC3223258/ addresses the risk of ovarian failure after hysterectomy. It is 2x that of an intact woman when both ovaries are left in place. That risk is greater when one ovary is removed.
Avatar f tn It just so happens to be on the side of the remaining ovary. I thought I had an ovarian cyst, so I mentioned it at my yearly OBGYN check up a couple of weeks ago. They did a vaginal ultrasound & said I had a very, very small cyst on my ovary but that it should not be causing any pain at this point. My pain comes & goes but reminds me a lot of how my endometriosis pain felt. I have an achiness in my side & sometimes sharp, stabbing pains.
Avatar n tn Three years ago I had a total hysterectomy due to fallopian tube cancer. The pathology report said that I had both ovaries removed. I had 2 CT scans and 2 transvaginal ultrasounds that showed "an ovary" with "venous blood flow to it. I was told it was probably scar tissue. I am at very high risk for ovarian cancer since I am BRCA II positive. What can I do to check to see if it is an ovary? I am very unsettled about it.
