Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy incision

hysterectomy

566073 tn?1219434819 I had a C section (emergency, with a vertical incision) years ago. The hysterectomy used the same vertical incision. My recovery was SO easy from the second surgery, because all the nerve endings had been severed in the first surgery. I've had another surgery in which the same incision was used, with the same incredibly painless recovery the second time. The first surgeries using those scars were pretty horrible, but the second were a cinch! I hope you have the same luck as I did!
Avatar f tn i had the same thing after my hysterectomy 3 yrs ago. with me they went back through my incision from my c-section which was 18 yrs ago. i thought it was because they went through the old incision. i had a bad experience with my hysterectomy as i was only suppose to be in the hospital for 2-3 days and was there an entire week. you might want to call the dr and see what they say.
Avatar f tn My hysterectomy took place 2 yrs ago in 3 days parts of my abdominal incesion opened is that normal since it's been so long
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy on Dec 2nd, they could not get the draining tube out. It has been over a month and it has not budged at all. They are telling me it could take 3 months or more for it to come out. Is this normal? What are my options if I want it out now. There is a very bad odor.
Avatar f tn I'm eight days post hysterectomy and have been having intense pain on my right side. The pain starts about at my ribs and moves downward to my hip bone. There is an incision about midway but the the incision looks great. I went back to my OB yesterday to have this pain checked out. He informed me that it something called crepitus (aka subcutaneous emphysema). However looking at crepitus one of the symptoms is a Styrofoam like crunching under the skin.
Avatar f tn I had a complete hysterectomy May 6. I have a 8-9 in. verticle incision. I have a very very large fibroid tumor. The incision is starting to seperate and bleed a little. What is the best care for this incision until my doctor's app. Friday. Thanks for you help.
Avatar n tn My cuz had a lap. hysterectomy 5 wks ago. 1st complication was that bowel had been cut during surgery. MD went back in through large midline lower adb. incision to repair bowel. 2nd complication, midline incision became infected. It was partially opened to drain out infection. She went home after 13 days in hospital. Once home she had severe abd. pain and was unable to have BM.
Avatar m tn Its been a month since I had a laprascopic hysterectomy jan15 , discovered February 12 one of my incisions is infected with redness and puss is this normal ? What did I do wrong?
Avatar n tn Has anyone experienced this? I had a total adominal hysterectomy 8 weeks ago. Recovery went generally well, but about 4th week I began to have sharp needle type pain, tingling, sensitivity to touch on my stomach above the incision. Also, pressure and pain on the lower right side of my stomach. I saw my dr for post op. She pretty much said she had no clue what it was. I've gone back to work now and these symtoms are painful. Any clues?
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for the removal of a 8mm ovarian cyst. The MD reports she will remove this through a 4" incision. If the cyst comes back as cancer she wants to do a full hysterectomy by an open incision from my rib area past my navel. Has anyone had this and does this seem odd? I asked about the bikini cut & she reported this could not be done because she will need to explore my other organs to see if there is cancer anywhere else?
Avatar f tn I'm not certain what all you already know, or what you need to know, so here's my simple "hysterectomy lecture" for future readers. :-) The word "hysterectomy" actually refers only to removal of the uterus. The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery.
Avatar f tn I think they can have a better look around inside with this type of incision. I later had a hysterectomy as my cyst was borderline malignant and this was done with a horizontal bikini line incision.
Avatar n tn Note any itching , pain or increased warmth around the area and if any of these symptoms is present then any infection of the area has to be ruled out. Apply calamine lotion( not on the small lap incision) around the incision and if the symptoms persist then please get it examined from a dermatologist. I hope it helps . Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Hello, A total abdominal hysterectomy removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen and it also removes the cervix. Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy usually requires a hospital stay of one to two days, but it could be longer.
314833 tn?1263259499 I had an partial hysterectomy a week ago, and underneith my incision, it is very hard and getting very uncomfortable. I also have a large lumo undernieth the left side(end) of my incision, and sharp sharp pains on the right side (end) of my incision. Is this something to be worried about?
Avatar n tn The doctor said I could still have endo. even if I had a hysterectomy. How? if having a period is the cause?
Avatar n tn I had a abdominal hysterectomy in April, because of abnormal bleeding everyday for a year and a half. It is now October and i am still having abdominal discomfort is this normal??? I used to sleep on my stomach and now when I find myself on my stomach i wake up in discomfort.
647350 tn?1228618670 Evening everyone - I have a quick question. I had a total hysterectomy on Nov. 26 2008. It ended up being more involved than my gyn had anticipated due to severe endometriosis. All that aside, I am now on day 10 after the surgery and feel eh, pretty good. Tired, which I know is to be expected, crampy, and still sore around the incision area. I have a lot of pain in my sides when trying to get up and down, and my walking is almost a crawl, but that is all easily dealt with.
Avatar n tn I have had a severe pain in my right hip ever since the surgery. I have not had pain anywhere else at all. I did end up with an abcess in one incision site. The one near the right hip of course. I also ended up with several large blood clots in my lungs. Nice. I don't understand where these came from as I have not been immobile and they did not show up until 2 weeks after the surgery. I was up walking 4 hours after the surgery ended. I was anemic when I left the hospital, blood down by 23%.
Avatar f tn The 2nd is to perform a hysterectomy via an incision to my bikini line and leave my right ovary intact. The recovery time is exactly the same which made me feel a hysterectomy is my best option but now I'm having second thoughts. Can someone advise me?
Avatar f tn I had fibroids myself and had a Hyster. Your complaints are very typical for fibroids. Normally, a bikini line incision and robotic surgery are being done nowadays for this, but in your case you are dealing with alot of fibroids and one is the size of a grapefruit and that might be the reason for the possibility for the verticle incision.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn My friend had a cesarean section. Her incision spread a bit, and she had a localized infection on the incision. Her doc did not prescribe anything for it. And it might be possible that an infection if the incision might make you have a mild fever. I would buy a nice new tube of antibiotic ointment and treat the skin infection with cleansing and topical treatment. You will spare yourself the scar getting any worse. At this point your incision will be "closed".
489774 tn?1212935663 does anyone know what type of incision is made in a laparotomy? is it vertical or horizonal? and how long of an incision is it? I will be having one at the end of the month, and I'm just curious. I have a 16 x 13 cm cyst and all I want is for it to be benign, so I'm not really worried about the surgery. I just would like to know what will take place. ( I've never had any type of surgery before, and have only been in the hospital for the birth of my 2 children....
