Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy in pcos

hysterectomy

1054665 tn?1305508455 did my hysterectomy take my pcos away. Have read where it didn't, but am looking for more info on this matter. I had gastric bypass on 07 went from 320 - 180 and then have regained to 245. Could this gain be partly due to pcos, even after hysterectomy?
Avatar n tn Greetings SFX, Hysterectomy is not standard treatment for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a disorder that stems from the ovaries. Removing your uterus will not cure PCOS. First line treatment for PCOS often includes combined hormone therapy a.k.a "birth control pills" , weight loss, evaluation for endocrine disorders such as diabetes and in the event of hirsutism (male hair pattern) spironolactone. Removal of the ovaries in the reproductive age women is associated.
Avatar f tn Thyroid hormones and estrogen go hand-in-hand for many of us. I was just the opposite - had an ovary removed for PCOS in '96, thyroid cancer in '03, other ovary removed for PCOS (huge, hemorrhagic cysts) in '06 and ongoing fibrocystic breast disease. All are fed by hormones (either thyroid hormones or estrogen) and many, many of us on the forum have these problems.
Avatar n tn High levels of testosterone are also common in women with PCOS which is why they tend to have excess body hair, oily skin and hair, acne, scalp hair loss. PCOS is not just a gynecologic problem. It is a condition of insulin resistance so has metabolic effects. I have read that losing 5 to 10% of your weight (if you are overweight) can be helpful in restoring ovulations and regular cycles.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS & HS. These are both incurable conditions that doctors struggle with. Recently I read that the same thing that helps PCOS may help HS and now I'm looking for links in my family history. My grandmother had a hysterectomy, and she has diabetes My mother and two of her sisters have hyperactive thyroid I have PCOS, HS, & I am pre diabetic. Any help on any medical connections between these 5 conditions?
Avatar f tn There are plenty of women who have cysts that do not turn into PCOS. Most cysts with PCOS are tiny and ALLOT in the ovaries...not one. The hair falling out, yeah that happens after you have a baby. My friend just had her baby on 9/18 and is noticing more hair falling out then normal. Your doctor needs to do blood work first. And PCOS is not cureable...but it is treatable. So follow up with the doctor.
Avatar f tn I am 38 now but I was 34 when I had a total hysterectomy in 2006. I was @ 26 when I found out that I had PCOS and what that ment for me. I was devistated, but once I came to terms with being childless I was ok with that and was even better when the Dr. finally told me she was doing a complete hysterectomy on me. There are pros and cons but you have to wiegh that for yourself.
Avatar f tn ve been in and out of gyneacologist for 3 years. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (so that would be lack of periods) and mild case of Endometriosis (so thats heavy and long periods)...Unlucky for me, according to the doctors, its not a combination which they see all the time. Last year they put me on Depo for one shot (I was previously on depo for 3 years about, and when my last shot finished 3 years ago i had my bleed straight away). Anyway...
Avatar m tn I have felt with so much. Like endomitriousis pcos dermoid cyst tumors ovarian cyst. Im not getting anywhere. Im in pain all the time. So thats why I need a hysterectomy. Nothing else is working.
Avatar f tn I did have to have a hysterectomy because of the pain I was in. I had taken birth control pills to help it but then I developed a lot of blood clots, sixteen in my right lung alone and I had to be removed from those. So the pain of PCOS came back with a vengence. It got so bad I just couldn't take it anymore and ended up having a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn After suffering from endometriosis and pcos for many years I have been thinking about getting a hysterectomy. My question is for people in my same situation. Was it worth it? Being 33 and facing a childless life is sad but after 18 years of suffering I feel I have no choice. My symptoms are getting way worse and with the pcos all the weight gain in my mid-section is embarrassing...people mistake me for being pregnant. I heard you can gain more weight with a hysterectomy though.
1089270 tn?1257174234 I had a Complete Hysterectomy (Surgical Menopause) and have gained over 30 pounds. Prior to this surgery, I was athletic and toned. The lack of hormones taken during surgery make me less energetic. I have been taking natural hormones and feel better. I have joined Curves and have been feeling better. I am bound and determined to get this weight off. I use to weigh 140 and now I weigh 179. I know it will take some time to remove this weight, but I know I can do it! One day at a time.
Avatar n tn help some symptoms. I still have PCOS even though I have had a hysterectomy but seems to have very little effect now...yeah, the unwanted hair is still there and the weight is always a challenge. I even had gastric bypass 6 years ago and lost 175 pounds. Even though I went through lots of "bad" situations with PCOS, doesn't mean you will & I hope your DR will have some good info for you to help. Let me know if you need to talk.
Avatar n tn The doctor has pretty much told her to get a hysterectomy or have a baby. Well she is not in a relationship to have a baby and she is under 30 so to have a hysterectomy would be horrible. I agree with Pcogale you need to see a DR and get checked out it can be seriouse. I'm over 30 and I have PCOS.
Avatar n tn My DHEA-Sulfate is high, my cortisol - am is high and my testosterone free is high. My thyroid is in normal range on everything. I take synthroid. I have acne on my belly, never had that before, excessive hair growth on face, I am a girl. I'm gaining weight in the mid section and having headaches and am also irritable. Doc has ordered an MRI on adrenals, but has not said what she thinks is going on.
687771 tn?1228633781 my ovaries hurt all the time just constant pain. my doctor has mentioned pcos but i have tried medication for that and nothing is helping. i am only 22 and i shouldnt be having this many issues i think. i have a huge family history of breast cancer ovarian cancer uterin cancer on both my moms side of the family and my fathers side of the family.
Avatar n tn No, there is no cure except a complete hysterectomy. In your shoes that would not be the option. I am sorry but IVF is your best option.
3799778 tn?1348335625 I had a total hysterectomy in Jun of 2012 because of complications, they also put in a bladder sling. I was 31 at the the time, now only three months later I am developing numerous cysts on the one ovary that was left and they are blood filled and keep rupturing causing a lot of pain. ( the doc also surgically removed a previous cyst on the remaining ovary) Now the obgyn put me on Errin which is an androgen to see if the cysts shrink.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS and am currently pregnant with my third baby. Doc wants to do a partial hysterectomy because of my high risk for uterine cancer but want to hold off a year or so unless there is an emergency of course. So we will be doing a tubal for now, for those ladies that had tubals did it make the Pcos worse? I was warned it could but wanted to hear from women that had it done. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I never had a panic attack until right before I got married and was put on birth control . Since then I've only had them after miscarriage, birth of son, moving to another place, birth of a daughter, and more since I've had a tubal ligation. I pray and eventually they go away, but I want them to go away forever! I used to be so happy and worry free and now all I do is worry about my husband and kids and the future. I'm so tired of it.
Avatar f tn Were you told to come back in a month or so for a recheck? It seems hysterectomy can impair ovarian function and possibly increase the likelihood of cysts but they're still likely nothing serious. Do you by any chance have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?
Avatar n tn first off - I'm sorry you have such difficulties with your symptoms, but yes, you can very likely have PCOS with a "normal" cycle. I do! I have never in my life missed a period, except when I was pregnant. I ovulate normally, but do get lots of cysts and my insulin levels are very high, I have excess weight around my middle - lots of struggles with losing weight, more acne than a 36 year old should have (as far as I am concerned!), etc.
1214188 tn?1272324207 t think I had any fertility treatments left in me. I also thought the pressure of a looming hysterectomy would doom any fertility treatments because I'd be so scared it wouldn't work because it HAD to work since it was the "last try". I begged them to do ovarian drilling, a surgical procedure to help my PCOS and get me to ovulate on my own so we could try one last time without any help. The first month after my surgery I ovulated, but didn't get pregnant.
Avatar n tn Please don't judge. I was diagnosed with PCOS after I had my second baby and my doctor put me on metformin and birth control in hopes of conceiving after treatment. He had me stop the birth control and continue taking the metformin, told me to have sex from day 10-20 and hopefully we'll get pregnant. Well, I just started my period! A full week earlier than it's supposed to. I don't know what it means?
6916000 tn?1386095142 These caused me irregular and very heavy periods. Ive theard that PCOS generally causes only light periods so why am I having heavy ones? Does anyone else have them too? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
