Hysterectomy for uterine polyps

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for uterine polyps

hysterectomy

Avatar m tn Hi, The decision depends on the type of polyps whether endometrial polyps or fibroid polyps. Also the size of polyps and your symptoms and the associated factors like hyperplasia or cancer. Endometrial polyps can be removed and endometrial resection done to prevent relapse. Recurrent fibroid polyps may require a hysterectomy. Discuss with your Doctor. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar m tn My dr found a bunch of uterine polyps and removed them surgically. They sometimes can be cancerous and yes they can grow back. A hysteroscopy is what the dr does, not a hysterectomy for this problem. They go in thur your vagina. No incisions are made. Cramping and bleeding is what can be expected after the surgery. You would want any polyps removed before you tried for a baby, they stop implantation from occurring.
Avatar m tn Overgrowth of cells in the lining of the uterus (endometrium) leads to the formation of uterine polyps. The sizes of uterine polyps range from a few millimeters —to several centimeters —are attached to the uterine wall by a large base or a thin stalk. You can have one or many uterine polyps. They usually stay contained within your uterus, but occasionally, they may slip down through the opening of the uterus (cervix) into your vagina. .
Avatar f tn I currently have an extremely painful 4cm complex cyst on my right ovary. I have a small uterine fibroid and polyps. I completed treatment for stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma in august. (estrogen & progesterone positive tumor) I am scheduled to start tamoxifen soon. My doc feels it is best to remove my ovaries and put in in menopause to prevent breast cancer and avoid the tamoxifen. As long as she is in there she said she may as well remove the uterus.
Avatar m tn the OB gyne MD gave me 2 options, either a polypectomy or hysterectomy. as much as possible i would like to avoid a hysterectomy because of the post effects. I am also concerned with the polyps coming back as I age. Still not decided what to have. I would appreciate any feedbacks regarding this matter. thanks!
Avatar n tn My previous ultrasound was 8 months ago with no polyps found at that time. I am scheduled for polyp removal on June 4th and really scared. Can such a rapid growth of a polyp indicate a malignancy? What are the chances of the polyp being benign? My doctor does not seem to be concerned but I am. I am not on any medication with the exception of lexapro. thank you in advance for your answer.
Avatar n tn There are newer procedures for bleeding due to uterine fibroids, which I assume are the same as uterine polyps that don't require a hysterectomy. The veins that supply blood to the fibroids are somehow blocked off from sending the blood to the tumors so that they shrink. I know it is done at a medical center where I live in N.Y. and it is a fairly new procedure but a good gyn should know about it.
Avatar f tn I did a LOT of research on partial hysterectomy. The possible issues they were testing me for were fibroids, adenemyosis and polyps. All are correctable by simply removing the uterus, some being correctable by D&C and ablation. After looking into the procedure, I realized that a partial hysterectomy would be ideal, if the test results prove that I have fibroids and/or adenemyosis. I could keep my ovaries & cervix and leave my hormones intact.
Avatar n tn nt loads of fun but very very managable and treatable with out need of hysterectomy...I am so happy for you (sounds a bit odd to congradulate some one on polyps) but you know what I mean Im glad its not the other....look into cryno-surgery for the polyps..
Avatar f tn C due to irregular staining for a duration of a few months after my pelvic ultrasound showed an abnormally thick uterine lining. All was well for a few months, I then had 3 months of no period (hooray) but then I had about 2 weeks of staining. After a month I had 3 days of extremely heavy bleeding (something I had a few years ago on a monthly basis - but I thought I was done with that). I went for another ultrasound which again is showing a thick uterine lining. My dr.
Avatar m tn finally prescribed Progesterone to stop the bleeding. I had an ultra sound yesterday and there are no polyps or fibroids but my uterine lining is thick. Dr. is advising D&C. Do you think it's an overkill? I feel like with my normal history I can wait and see if it's just hormonal imbalance.
Avatar f tn The Dr called today with the results of the US, the cyst is has grown and is complex, I have Adenomyosis and Uterine Polyps. Has anyone heard of having all three of these at the same time? What type of treatment do they do on this? Should I be worried about cancer? The Dr is sending me Wed to have blood work done and I go to the Dr next week to talk to her on what we are going to do. I am kind of worried so any input would be nice.
Avatar f tn They take everything out (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes) for a complete hysterectomy making it impossible for you to have children. Your doctor can give you medication for nausea (metoclopramide works wonders) and may do a D&C. Best of luck!
701563 tn?1228359916 t know if they could combine a lap band/ lap assisted hysterectomy for you, and minimize your anesthetic risk! The Mirena MIGHT work. An endometrial biopsy is PRETTY GOOD (but it is done blindly and can miss the polyp altogether).
Avatar f tn I have had postmenopausal bleeding, mainly spotting, for around 4 years. During the Holidays last year, I had an episode of heavier bleeding. It came out in clots. Talk about scary! It resolved on its on within a few days. Since then, I'd just had light spotting. Today I had an endometrial (uterine) biopsy, to find out why I have PMB. But a few minutes into the procedure, I started bleeding rather heavily. The Dr. prescribed birth control pills, to take 3 per day, to control this bleeding.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, Does anyone know whether the chances of becoming pregnant increases after removal of uterine polyps. Do you know of anyone who was able to get pregnant after removal of the polpys. We've been trying for over a year, then found out that I have 4 uterine polyps. I am scheduled to have them removed, but really want to know whether my chances of becoming pregnant will increase? Thanks for reading.
Avatar f tn I had polyps my first IVF cycle, and the DR was going to remove them, but decided to wait for 2 weeks and see what happened. He told me they normaly don't go away on their own, but low and behold, mine did!!!! I would wait a couple weeks and ask your DR to recheck you.
Avatar f tn I'm 38 and in a few months, I am scheduled to get a hysterectomy due to uterine prolapse. I'll also have my cervix removed due to history of polyps (benign). The intention would be to leave my ovaries. My mother had a hysterectomy at 50 due to heavy bleeding issues, but I recently found out that she had precancerous cells in her ovaries - haven't had this discussion with my doctor yet since it's new news.
Avatar f tn I'm not quite sure what the ovary measurements mean but, your uterine size appears to be within normal realms. I've also had a Transvaginal ultrasound done and they couldn't find one of my ovaries either (I am 53 years old and considered perimenopausal at this point). You haven't mentioned the reason for your ultrasound. Were you having bleeding postmenopausally?
Avatar n tn t think your sis has OVCA from what you have described above. She is seeing a GYN/oncologist for her hysterectomy which is very smart move since they are specially trained in the area. In most case OVCA is dx from biopsy, US can be a suggestive tool, same for pelvic exam. Please don't assume she has OVCA without any real evidence, the chance she has OVCA is very low. These are just my thoughts and I'm not a dr. Best wish!
Avatar n tn For the past two months I have had severe pain in my lower abdomen to the paoint that it is almost unbearable to sit or walk around. It's almost like any movement at all nearly makes me vomit from the pain. It only lasts about three days and then it gradually disappears. I went to my Dr. and she ordered an ultrasound. They couldn't find any kind of cyst, all she said was that there was some fluid in there and my uterus was tilted.
594002 tn?1256303782 Thank You for taking the time to respond. I am relieved to tell you that my biopsy came back negative, no precancerous changes, no cancer. What they did find was that I have an unknown chronic endometrial infection along with fibroid changes. I am currently on two antibiotics and scheduled for a follow up ultrasound in October.
594002 tn?1256303782 Thank you for responding. I did get my results back and once again no for uterine and cervical cancer. Whew. But Dr still will not do ca-125. But she wants me to come back again Jan 30 for another biopsy? I contacted Mercy Hospital in Baltimore and have an appt with a gyn-oncologist jan 27th. I will ask about the CT scan. good idea. I have copies of all my ultrsounds over the past yr, a cd of my last one, and my records for my colonoscopy. I hope she listens and heeds my concern.
Avatar f tn Though generally harmless, occasionally these cysts and polyps can interfere with fertility. Uterine polyps are sometimes associated with infertility. Uterine polyps can affect the lining of the uterus. This lining is very important when it comes to embryo implantation. If the lining becomes unhealthy or unstable due to uterine polyps, this can interfere with implantation. It can also increase your chances for miscarriage.
Avatar f tn cervical ectropion (condition in which the cervical tissue is more susceptible to get injured by sex);cervical polyps; uterine fibroid; cancer of cervix and vagina; birth control pills or hormone therapy; pelvic inflammatory disease or sexually transmitted diseases; vaginal dryness etc. You need to get cervicitis and other causes ruled out from a gynecologist.
Avatar f tn Then the symptoms came back but worse I finally went to the OBGYN and she sent me to have a US a couple of months ago and they found a cyst on my Left and set me up to have another US in two months, I had the US last Friday and the Dr called Monday and said that the US results came back and the Cyst has grown and it is complex and that I also had Adenomyosis and Uterine Polyps and she had me to have a CA125 and two other blood test My symptoms are alot of pain (abdomen, pelvis, back, legs, e
