Hysterectomy for pms

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for pms

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I am 35, and am considering hysterectomy for AUB. As far as I know there is no reason to remove my ovaries and since I probably have 15 years until menopause I can use the hormones. I was wondering if because of still having the ovaries which leads to the menstrual cycle does one still experience PMS? By PMS I mean the moodiness, bloating, constipation etc?
725741 tn?1245086607 I had a hysterectomy in Jun 08 and about 3 months ago I started having the old PMS symptoms. For instance I would get a pimple on my chin every month right before my monthly cycle. Now I'm getting the pimple again. I just need to know if this is normal or not. I still have both ovaries and haven't had any complications whatsoever from the hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn You are unlikely to need a hysterectomy. Only 2% of hysterectomies are done for confirmed cancer. Hysterectomy is the most overused surgery. 76% do not even meet ACOG criteria for the surgery. The study that showed this said that many gynecologists do not do the proper workups to get a diagnosis and/or offer hysterectomy over conservative (organ-sparing) treatments. The cause of the sharp pain needs to be determined in order to decide on appropriate treatment.
Avatar m tn I was under the impression that if you had a hysterectomy that you did not have your uterus. When I had my hysterectomy done, the dr took the works. I'm talking about everything, the fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, uterus. Not that I miss any of them. I don't have periods, which means no pms! WooHoo!
Avatar f tn I think if you are considering going so far as a hysterectomy, you might be able to work with your doctor first to imitate the effects of a hysterectomy by using drugs to turn off your hormones for a while, to see if it makes a difference. It wouldn't surprise me if part of the package is the ovaries, but it would surprise me if that is *all* of the picture. It seems like the triggers for hormones and hormone swings also have to come from the brain.
Avatar n tn I started sprintec about five weeks ago...I have SUPER heavy periods (fibroids) and actually qualify for a hysterectomy, but my insurance is crap and it would cost me $2600 out of pocket. I also always have.a.BAD case of PMS!!! Anywho, I'm not willing to pay that price for an elective surgery so my Dr put me on Sprintec, but instead of three weeks active/one week reminder, I'm on six weeks active/one week reminder.
441021 tn?1214261472 well, i had a hysterectomy done in jan 2007, and i had my uterus and cervix removed, after removal the realised that my cells was now changing, and the pathologists said i am very lucky and there were no invasions what so ever. my question is COULD I GET OVARIAN CANCER?
Avatar f tn You are in a really crappy position since there is no cure for endo...not even hysterectomy with ovary removal since endo lesions implant themselves throughout the pelvis. Some women get relief but it may only be temporary and some don't get relief. I suppose you have already perused some of the endo websites? This one has a section about hysterectomy - http://www.endo-resolved.com/hysterectomy.html with a number of women's stories about endo after hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn with your ovarian cyst. Just trying to prepare myself for the worst. Thank you for any input you can give me.

Avatar f tn I have been going to the doctors for a few years for the same problem. I had surgery last year and they had taken pictures and everything looked normal. My doctor put me on birth control and that worked for a while but all my symptoms are back.
Avatar f tn m sure they are much better now. Are there any out there that are better for PMS and cramps? Anyone care to share their thoughts, opinions, side effects, etc.?

1087834 tn?1256647396 Anyway, now I have scheduled surgery in 10 days for a hysterectomy per her advice and I am worried.I have been researching online and it seems that women w/ovarian cancer and other severe conditions have CA-125 levels over 100...
Avatar f tn Last year I had a hysterectomy removing the cervix and the uterus, kept the ovaries. I has endometriosis and constant pain, after and Endometrial Ablation I thought things would get better and 3 months later things were worse than they ever were. The final step was they hysterectomy. Three months after the surgery I still felt horrible, now 14 months later things are not better.
Avatar n tn Every woman needs to understand her condition as well as the lifelong functions of her sex organs before consenting to hysterectomy or oophorectomy for benign conditions. If benign fibroids and cysts need to be removed, there are organ-sparing procedures that remove just the growths (myomectomy or cystectomy). But you need a surgeon with these skills.
18070169 tn?1463175914 I had a partial hysterectomy (uterus and cervix - both ovaries remain) the end of February. I was fine for the first 6 weeks and then after I would have occasional panic attacks, but not consistent. I had bladder pain and a pretty intense side pain so went in to be checked. No UTI, no infections in any of the organs and no stones or anything in the kidney or gallbladder. At this time I was also taking zolpidem every night.
Avatar f tn Is it common for women to feel more sexual right before there menstrual cycle also wanting more intercourse a day or two before
605458 tn?1539228808 I was just diagnosed by laparoscopy with stage IV endometriosis, adhesions, endometriomas on both ovaries, etc. I'm betting I've been suffering from its existence long before I actually had the severe pain that sent me to the ER every time I had a period because I'd been to doctors with chronic bowel problems and distention and was diagnosed with IBS, which has very much improved since some adhesions and the cysts were taken care of during laparoscopy.
1973052 tn?1332868276 Welcome to the community. I'm not sure I understand what your doctor told you. He/she said you are high risk (for ovarian cancer or for developing ovarian cyst?) since you don't have PMS any more? Having or not having PMS does not have anything to do with ovarian cancer risk. And as a matter of fact, hysterectomy reduces risk for ovarian cancer because it causes changes to the ovaries. Maybe he/she was saying you are higher risk for developing ovarian cysts since you had a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn He refuses to consider a partial hysterectomy, as did my prior OB-GYN. I have been stable in my bi-polar for close to 4 years now. Noted a downward change in stability now. What will happen to me on these new ones? I'm scared.
1448936 tn?1363206346 It is so annoying. Before I had too have my hysterectomy for years I had the worst anxiety with pms. My doc told me to start taking vitamin B6 daily and that eventually after a few months it would lessen the symptoms. Surprisingly enough it took about 3 mnths but he was right.
440728 tn?1234645302 I have thryoid disease and a premature menopause which are totally irritating each other and causing big problems. I just want to ask the girls out there, if anyone has suffered with nonstop monthly "girl thing" as Stella calls it! (I really like that name). I can't go into too much detail here, but It's very severe too and lots of it to put it mildly. I have an urgent scan on Monday and have been told I will probably have to have a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn I'm 40 with a history of pms/pmdd and pcos. Had a total vag hysterectomy ( both ovaries removed) 2 weeks ago. I feel I made a mistake having a total. I thought the hormones could be replaced, but my gyn says I don't need progesterone because I don't have a uterus. I use a rx spray estradiol. But, I thought my probs were due do estrogen dominance.
746058 tn?1248344665 s thoughts were on having a hysterectomy? I am hoping it helps relieve some of the PMS increased POTS I get. It is usually at its worse the week before my period and the week during. The rest of the time I hardly know I even have POTS. Is it because of the obvious blood loss during ones cycle? Will having the surgery make things better?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the suggestion. We have a menstrual cycle tracker on our list of to-do's. We'll let you know when it's available.
