Hysterectomy for migraines

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for migraines

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn After hysterectomy, no migraines for 2 months and then when my ovaries kicked back in to gear, they have been worse than ever. Any suggestions? Should I go off the estrogen?
Avatar f tn my doctor has recommended laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had the uterine ablation procedure done 3 1/2 yrs ago but the irregular cycles and severe pain have returned. My doctor stated he would removed my right ovary for sure, as it is covered in scar tissue and causes a lot of pain. The question is should I keep my left ovary or not? I suffer from menstrual migraines and they have gotten worse over the past 3 -6 months. I'm thinking maybe take them both out and go on HRT.
Avatar f tn I had total hysterectomy 16 years ago I am now 56. I take monthly infusions of IVIG for low IGG immunoglobulin and very low IGA. I have heart disease, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, arthritis, irritable bowel back issues, migraines basically been falling apart since 2007 when diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Which now has healed itself after oncologist ruled out cancer. Wondering if hormones could help?
Avatar f tn Also, I have tried birth control pills but the ones that are taken for 90 days at a time sent my migraines into overdrive, and I still had extreme cramping. I am on monthly BC pills currently and it does help with ovulation but still have very bad cramps and periods. I am 35, done having kids, and birth control isn't really a issue as my husband was snipped already.
Avatar f tn Topamax, although there are many warnings on the medication, is one of the primary preventative medications used for migraines. If a person is having that many migraines you want to prevent them rather then take medications often when you're actually having the migraine.
Avatar m tn I am sorry for all you are going through. For one, you were not told the truth about ovarian function after hysterectomy. There is a good chance (about 40%) that the ovaries will fail after hysterectomy due to the loss of blood flow. But even women who appear to have "normal" ovarian function after hysterectomy suffer with they same symptoms as you. It is a myth that the uterus is disposable after childbearing. It has hormonal, anatomical, skeletal, and sexual functions.

Avatar f tn re doing and whether or not the ponstel seems to help. My doctor is recommending that I have a hysterectomy but I am not ready for that, so I'm just riding it out for now. Do you have heavy periods? Have you tried anything for them? I have extremely heavy periods and am anemic. I have tried lysteda but it didn't help.
Avatar f tn Now my migraines are horrible POST surgery! I was in the bed for 3-4 days last month because I could barely function without getting nauseated or dizzy and my head just pounded. I can feel it starting to come back again today and I can't keep taking off of work. I am also starting to get more palpitations, breast seem to be fuller...just a myriad of problems (depression, exhaustion, anxiety, etc.). I hate to sound so negative but I was just wondering....is this normal?
Avatar n tn I suffer from vertigo, still the GI symptoms, constant pain in my abdomen not only in the LLQ which has lessened since the hysterectomy, but is constant in most quadrants, lower back pain, migraines, kidney stones, pain and numbness in my arms, pain in the tops of my legs, occasional ringing in ears, pain when speaking loudly or moving quickly, fatigue, malaise, cold intolerance, and difficulty seeing at night.
Avatar m tn approximately 6 years ago I had a mini-stroke possibly caused by my Migraines. My Neurologist is concerned that the migraines will worsen, but I went for a follow-up last week and not only did they see the cyst on the right side of the ovary that was there already, but now they see a cyst on the left side along with thickened endometrial lining. I have already had an endometrial ablasion about 2-4 years ago and family hx of cervical and ovarian cx.
1389553 tn?1280782127 Now, before I had the MRI, I was complaining of having severe migraines for the last 2 yrs. I was taking Imitrex for a while but, I did not like the way I felt-it caused my heart to beat too fast, felt I was surley gonna pass out. I am still taking Topamax to help preventing these headahces. It don't seem to help me. It is progressing, I had a hysterectomy last year of June of 09. I had Fibroid tumor in my uterus, I get severe cramping and migraines.
9709782 tn?1405425445 but instead, I am medicated for depression, medicated for anxiety, medicated for migraines, medicated for blood pressure, medicated for thyroid, medicated for diabetes, medicated for ADD, etc... I don't like having to take so much medication and still have the underlying problems. Most of the medication only masks some of the symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had menstrual migraines for over 30 years and as I get closer to menopause, things are getting worse. I had a hysterectomy last July and have been taking.25mg estradiol gel every night and when I first started taking it, it seemed like the headaches were not so bad. Now I am wondering if I should bump it up to .
534800 tn?1217167359 I had an increase in depression for awhile post hysterectomy and broke down and took 5 mg a day of prozac generic for a while. But I stopped that after a time and don't seem to miss it. I continue to also take flaxseed oil capsules, 1000 mg twice a day and I eat macadamia nuts, both sources of the omega fatty acids good for mood and inflammation. Sometimes, I feel like I'm going a little crazy and have to walk about to try to get the endorphines going.
746058 tn?1248344665 I took Effexor for I think three days related to migraines I think the year before being diagnosed with POTS, but had to stop with all the side effects it gave me. I had a hysterectomy in 2006. I don't get many hot flashes for some reason. I take over the counter Sam-E, naturemade brand 200 mg/day and flaxseed oil capsules (the latter with breakfast and mid-day meal). Both are mood elevators.
Avatar n tn I have had "hangover" type migraines for the past 15 years. They are triggered by hormonal changes and foods-including when I eat. For example, I can't eat after 6:30, no simple carbs after 4:00. No caffeine, alcohol, MSG, etc. 2 years ago, I had a complete hysterectomy to try to regulate hormones, but there was no change in the frequency.
Avatar f tn ve had improvements in regard to the tumor. I do have fewer migraines post hysterectomy and many not as severe (currently down to an average of 5 a month last I counted), and no more extremely painful periods, and no more endometrioma growing painfully in one ovary.
Avatar f tn I meant to add that the migraines for me stopped once I got on a steady dose of estradiol. I was on the 1mg patch of Vivelle for years before I switched and tried other estrogen combos.... back to Vivelle for me. I get a dull headache now and then if I forget to change my patch. For me the bad headaches were related to menopause... of course, you will check out this pain with the doctors... but do the research on the hormonal front and see what you think.
Avatar f tn My previous doctor tried me in Effexor instead of estrogen for extreme menopausal symptoms and migraines because the clinic now refuses to prescribe estrogen to anyone. I had been on low dose (.25 mg) estrogen every other day over 25 years since I had to have a hysterectomy when I was in my 30s. On Effexor I could not even function. I could only work for a few minutes at a time and then would feel exhausted and unable to concentrate so I had to lie down. I cried all the time.
Avatar f tn But, I begain my decade long battle with migraines. I switched docs and my new dr put me on the deposit shot for two years. Still suffered from migraines about once a month, gained 45 pounds, and became emotionally unstable. After the shot I tried out the Nuva ring. This helped calm my migraines a bit, but lead to rather heavy cramping. I went back to oral contraceptives, this time on ortho lo. Bleeding for months at a time again.
1153480 tn?1262136246 I am also looking forward to finally seeing if it is my horomones that have been causing my migraines all these years.....This was the whole point to my hysterectomy in the first place..... it has only taken 9 years to complete it...LOL!! If you have questions, you may contact me. Thank you. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/610433'>ovarian regrowth</a>.
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy ten years ago. Prior to the surgery, I suffered with migraines and they were significantly reduced with the use of estrogen. Since stopping the estrogen, I have been getting severe frequent migraines. Should I go back on estrogen?
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and ever since I have what feels like menstral cramps every month. I still have my ovaries so I'm ovulating......Well for the last two months the pain is localized to the right side and I'm experiencing a gammot of other issues. Migraines, nausea, aches and pains all over, not eating not sleeping, hot sweating and then cold. What the heck is going on now? Is it just my hormones going crazy or something else??
Avatar f tn During that time, I had repeated issues with headaches and migraines - migraines have been an ongoing issue for me for 25 years and have a very distinct hormonal connection. Once the period was finished, I increased the medication to 1 tablet 3 times a day. I then unexpectedly found myself in hospital having emergency surgery for an infected gall bladder almost 6 weeks ago, just to add to the drama of the last few months.
Avatar f tn Has your Dr checked for celiac disease, other food intolerance/allergies, and for pancreas, thyroid, ovarian, or stomach problems? Could it be linked to whatever is causing your migraines? Are there any foods that you don't react to?
Avatar n tn Well in 2004 (22 years old) I had a hysterectomy due to some MAJOR complications I was having and for a second the migraines stopped, but then they came back with a vengence! I would get a migraine at least once a week and it was starting to really take a toll on my body and my life. So, in 2008 the doctors finally found a good med for me called INDERAL....it seemed to work up until now.... Now when I get migraines I can actually feel the spots on my head where they hurt.
Avatar f tn I am trying to figure out if it is related to hormones as well. I have had my migraines under control for years 2 per year until now. I recently had my hormone level checked as well as my thyroid. This test was normal. I am not a dr. but the Uterus has some function in hormone control, but it is minimal. As long as your overies are intact you should not need hormones. However, as we age these levels go down. Many people are confused regarding these surgeries.
