Hysterectomy for breast cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for breast cancer

hysterectomy

Avatar m tn Hi to all! In April of this year, pelvic pain sent me to my GYN who subsequently ordered an ultrasound. Pain caused by a complex cyst on right ovary. Waited for six weeks before repeating ultrasound to see if there were any changes-only change was less fluid, more solid so I was referred to a GYN/ONC who is recommending removal of both ovaries, primarily due to breast cancer history with estrogen receptors. Uterus and tubes also recommended for removal.
Avatar n tn coronary heart disease, stroke, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, hip fracture, pulmonary embolus, and death due to all causes. A lot of additional data was collected in order to compare similar groups of women in terms of other factors. The women were similar in terms of baseline risk factors for cardiovascular disease and cancer, although the women who had their ovaries removed were slightly older and slightly more likely to be using or have used hormone therapy.
Avatar n tn There would be NO advantage to have a hysterectomy for the treatment of Breast Cancer ..... I'm sure it was recommended that you have some type of treatment following your breast cancer surgery; you don't mention what type of surgery was performed. A uterine cyst would not be a reason for a hysterectomy unless it was advised by your Gynecologist. Removing the uterus would have no effect on anything to do with your breast cancer diagnosis. Regards .....
Avatar n tn Hi, I can understand how frightening this is to you, especially with the history of breast cancer. The doctor said he doesn't think it's cancer and that's his medical opinion, and encouraging. You didn't mention what kind of doctor you're having your surgery with hopefully a GYN/ONC Did you have a CA125 done and what is your level? The good thing is that you've found the problem, and you're getting it attended to, and you'll soon have answers.
1100598 tn?1413127426 I am sorry for your breast cancer, BRCA1+ diagnosis, and being faced with this decision of female organ removal. I had a hysterectomy with ovary removal and it has been a hellish ride. But my situation was much different than yours (a suspicious looking ovarian cyst that ended up being benign) and my organs never should have been removed. At least most of my hormone deficiency symptoms are relieved with estrogen.
Avatar f tn Could this nipple pain be related to menopause? I still have both ovaries but hysterectomy many years ago, I was told it as likely that I would go through menopause earlier than normal. Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy at 40, benign lump removed from my breast at 43 and thyroid cancer at 46. Is there a connection?? Interesting!
Avatar f tn Maternal side of my family has been studied for years for the BRCA gene. My mom and her two sisters all had breast cancer. So far, one aunt has died from breast cancer with metas. to colon. My other aunt recently found hers has metast. too (all over her body). My mom breast cancer survivor. I say all of this because these are all risk factors for ovarian cancer. I had a mammogram August 2008 that came back normal, as did the pap.
Avatar n tn My grandmother also had breast cancer 3yo ago she has been cancer free for 2years....
Avatar m tn Based on this information recommendations are made for treatment. She has had the treatment for the breast cancer, their might also be recommendation for some type of anti-estrogen treatment as well to further decrease her risk of recurrence as well. The use of hormone (anti-estrogen) treatment, and type of hormone treatment will be determined based on risks and benefits, as well as other factors such as her menopausal status and any other health issues.
Avatar n tn Met with specialist last Friday and they are recommending complete hysterectomy based on my history of breast cancer, mom and sis died of colon cancer, aunt with uterine cancer...LOTS of cancer in family. They ran another CA125, and it came back normal - 14.5. Evidently, being on tamoxifen puts me at risk for uterine cancer. In your opinion, is it reasonable to consent to a full hysterectomy, especially if I just have a simple cyst which is what it appears to be?
Avatar n tn A hysterectomy, removal of the uterus, will have no bearing on your risk for breast cancer. The ovaries are what produces hormones and at 28, they would likely be left intact. You should have this discussion with your gynecologist who can discuss all options as they relate to your situation.
Avatar f tn Hormone Replacement Therapy has been proven to increase the incidence of breast cancer and since your cancer was ER+ and you had medication to block the production of the hormone I wouldn't think you would be prescribed HRT now. Keep in mind that the ovaries produce the Estrogen ... not the Uterus. Your sister's cancer would not be related in any way to your cancer ... the fact that one was ER+ and one was not has no bearing on the situation.
Avatar n tn I am trying to arrive at a decision regarding ongoing treatment for bi-lateral breast cancer. Stage 1 & Stage 2,ER & PR +,both invasive, - nodes, bi-lateral mas, chemo, had complete hysterectomy due to BRCA 2 +, Can anyone tell me what the likely hood of a metastisis in my situation, been told I should take Femara or Tamoxifen for minimum 5 yrs - 10 yrs. I am not excited about putting more poison into my body if I don't have too. Can anyone offer me an opinion??
Avatar f tn Im thinking of having lapband, made an appt for consult i have 90 lbs. To lose, ive had breast cancer 14 yrs ago and hysterectomy 6 yrs ago, so i can relate. Ive tried for over ten yrs now to lose weight.
Avatar n tn Thing is, my mom came from a long line of middle-European Jewish women, 4 generations of whom had breast cancer. I still tested negative. Then I got breast cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer. If I'd tested positive for any of the known genetic mutations, I'd have *run* to the hospital and demanded a hysterectomy! Absolutely without hesitation! So, good luck to you. Keep us informed, OK?
20795800 tn?1509581846 I had signs of HPV the kind that leads to cervical cancer- i HAD A dysplasia on my cervix and a burning procedure where it was sent out to see if it was malignant in stage 2 at one gyno- but the new gyno didnt know until just now- what should I do? he seemed concern but at the same time I already have stage 3 breast cancer- i'm thinking a whole hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn In 2003, I tested positive to BRAC1, but they still have not found the markers for most cases ovarian cancer. In 2001 I had breast and in 2003 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The gene came from my fathers side. His mother had breast, her sister had breast, and another sister had ovarian. My sister had breast cancer in 2006. I have as sister who hasn't had cancer. Neither of my sisters have had gene testing. This is a very difficult subject and a very personal decision.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that HRT has been proven to increase the chance of Breast Cancer. If absolutely necessary these drugs should be used at the lowest dose possible and for the shortest time possible. Regards .....
Avatar n tn I have taken tomaxifen for two-years and I am facing the possibility of uterine cancer. I have an abnorman growth in my uteris. I am having a hysterectomy in the future, five days. the doctor does not know if the growth is cancer or other things. somehow I would like some advise as what to expect. This discussion is related to When to take Tomaxifen?.
Avatar f tn I have endometreosis, Lupus and have had severe pain in ovulation, hospitalized once with 2 large cysts, one on each ovary and a younger 35 year old sister with breast cancer. I am 46 now with a 5 1/2 cm serious cyst adenoma on my left ovary that has been there growing for the last 4 months or so and 2 smaller cysts on my right ovary. I also have an elevated CA 125. I am trying to decide what to do.
Avatar f tn Is there a link between breast lumps, cysts, cancer due to hormone imbalance since it showed up so soon after my hysterectomy. I do have fibrocysts. Also, is there a program I could get some assistance to get an ultrasound to have it checked out even though there doesn't seem to be anything there anymore.
Avatar m tn I am thinking about having a hysterectomy because of terrible endemetriosis, I am 47 and have a history of breast cancer, so I cannot get any hormone replacement therapy. But i have read that maybe it won't help. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Avatar n tn if I had known then, what I know now, I would have had a hysterectomy way before my Primary Peritoneal cancer aka Ovarian cancer got so bad.......(stage 4 PPC TAH/BSO tumor debulking surgery Dec 5, 2005) anyways, if you know you run the risk of this cancer, you should be closely monitored by your GYN/Oncologist specialist...
Avatar n tn My younger sister has been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer recently. My grandmother died of cancer (cervical probably). My paternal uncle also died of cancer in the mouth. I'm not bleeding now - my period ended abruptly 6 years ago - I had very light bleeding 2 years ago for a day or two. i had laparascopy for endometriosis 13 years ago. Wondering whether I should go for hysterectomy instead of doing one after another scans/sonograms.
