Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy endometriosis hrt

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I have a follow with my specialist on June1/15, about HRT that he wants me to go on. I had a hysterectomy due to a polyp on my cervix, thickening of the lining and also endometriosis. My doctor wanted to leave my ovaries, but having read a lot on your site about other women who ended up going back in for surgery within two years to have there ovaries removed, and also that the ovaries are what also helps your endometriosis grow, I insisted they be removed.
Avatar f tn If you had endometriosis...see an endometriosis specialist because a specialist will excise all of the endo if lesions are left behind then you are not in the hands of a specialist and the best way to know this before going under the knife is to ask them how they will handle bowel endometriosis if they can't remove it or have a colon surgeon to assist then they are not specialists so move on...also endometriosis doesn't need hrt to survive...
Avatar f tn I am 43 yrs old, I had my hysterectomy at 33 or 34 due to ovarian cysts, endometriosis and extreme pain. I was on Lupron injections for a couple of yrs (can't remember exact amount of time). I remember loving the shots because it lessoned my pain and I didn't have a period for 6 months with every injection. Today I believe I was so niave and just wanted to stop taking tons of pain medication and dealing with the whole thing in general, that when my doctor said hysterectomy....
Avatar f tn I’m 47, I had a complete hysterectomy 6 years ago (both overdoes, filopion tubes, uterus) due to endometriosis. I have not done any HRT but have had the hardest time with anxiety, hot flashes, brain fog, fatigue, achy joints. Is it pointless to start HRT now 6 years later?
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar f tn hi there, I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I would strongly suggest to go for a 2nd and even 3rd opionion. I had a total radical hysterectomy in my early 20's (I'm now in my 50's) and HRT introduced new problems. I would try to keep the one ovary.
Avatar f tn I want to recommend, crwstar, if you have any endometriosis, ask them to excise, not laser burn. I did this for my hysterectomy, but was burned when I didn't know it with the first laporotomy. I later learned that it is better to cut than to burn, because the body treats the burns like foreign bodies and more scarring can happen. Adhesions are no fun.
Avatar f tn unfortunately if it's endometriosis the only way to get rid of it is to cut out the disease at the root....I too had a hysterectomy with ovaries removed and continued to have endometriosis destroy my pelvis...it was everywhere...I lost half my colon, part of an adrenal gland, my gallbladder, appendix...it has been up my ureter and on my bladder...all after having had a complete hysterectomy...
1336491 tn?1340619541 I had endometriosis quite severe from early age, and had total hysterectomy at 34 yrs old ..
Avatar f tn s lose their effectiveness and we have to increase the dose or switch to some other HRT. Endometriosis can complicate matters because all of the endo is seldom removed at the time of hysterectomy and can itself produce estrogen. So it is possible that it was helping to keep you supplied with estrogen but is no longer. Have you checked your estrogen levels periodically since your surgery? However, unfortunately, we cannot always go by levels.
8693404 tn?1399380569 He was adamant that he removed all my ovary and said that all my problems would be solved if I agreed to take HRT. I had refused to take HRT because my endometriosis was severe and I didn't want to risk any estrogen. I requested my GP run the FSH/estrogen blood test because I hadn't experienced any menopause symptoms. My consultant insisted that I must have just dealt with them well but I wasn't convinced. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn I have had uterus and cervix removed 11 years ago and my ovaries and fallopian tubes plus 1 pelvic cyst removed 7 years ago.I was put on hrt 8 years ago before my ovaries and fallopian tubes were removed. 6 mo after everything was out a new pelvic cyst grew on my cuff. Because of how many surgeries I have had down their the dr was worried about scar tissue and chose to remove fluid from the cyst instead of removing the cyst. At 5 years later they found a second cyst right next to the 1st one.
1074733 tn?1256231619 Over the past 10 years I have had numerous doctors tell me they thought I should be on HRT for symptoms I was having, and just because of the hysterectomy. This past summer our family doctor tried to put me on estrogen cream due to symptoms he believed are caused by low estrogen. I refused the prescription and told him I wanted a hormone panel done first. If the hormone panel came back saying I was low estrogen, then I would use the cream.
Avatar f tn So what do you suggest I do? Live with my symptoms awhile longer? Have a total or partial hysterectomy? Go onto HRT.? I need advice, I'm way past miserable and so is my family, something's just gotta give here. Please help.
Avatar n tn I had a full open Hysterectomy about 12 years ago, when I was 36. I was on HRT for 9 years. I couldn't start for 18 months after the surgery due to severe endometriosis. I went off HRT for no particular reaosn other than I felt OK w/o it. Now I am having what I think are hot flashes at night. My thyroid (which I have had trouble with since I was 18) is all off, I have swollen lymph nodes for 2 years. Can you go through menopuase symptoms anyway??
Avatar f tn ache under right rib ,and right kidney area, aches where my gall bladder was removed years ago,i had a total abdominal hysterectomy one years ago no ovaries,i take no hrt .
1046985 tn?1305117048 My oncologist told me that my OVCA was Endometriosis that had turned malignant. I am not allowed to take any form of HRT as Oestrogens feed Endo and could cause it to regrow even though I have had a Hysterectomy and been through 6 rounds of chemo. I must stay away from all food containg soy as well . Please ask your Doctor about this as this is very important and I have been told these facts from several Doctors . I hope you feel better soon , please let me know how you get on.
1336491 tn?1340619541 m a limbolander, but some of my docs believe MS. I had a hysterectomy in 2006 due to a uterus prolapse. My Gyn said that I also had endometriosis that was undiscovered. He didn't say what stage it was, but according to him it was working it's way through the uterine wall. He also said that this was the cause of all my abnormal uterine bleeding. I've recently lost my ovaries..left one in 2008, right one 2010 due to ovarian cyst. My ovaries would move and reattach to other things..
967168 tn?1477584489 I'm waiting on my regular gyn to confirm everything but the Dr doing my sono today said nothing looks "suspicious" for cancer; just worsening Endometriosis & Adenomyosis from my surgery in 2005 and last tests in 2007. I have to wait until Monday to talk to my regular Gyn he's not in the office on Friday's even though they set up my appt with him.
Avatar f tn I'm 42 and have been suffering daily with pain from endometriosis for years. I have no energy and no sex drive. I'm seriously thinking about getting a hysterectomy. I came hear and have been reading horror story after horror story. I'm wondering is anyone happy with their decision to get a hysterectomy? Need adice.
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy for endometriosis and I regret it...agree with old_before_my_time...the hysterectomy is the surgery that keeps on giving...not in a good way...I so regret it! I too have had my organs glue together (frozen pelvis) thanks to endometriosis...I have been in the endo nightmare for 25+ years. and it's another that just keeps giving and not in a good way...
Avatar f tn I am a 38 year old with three children and just had a hysterectomy this past Wed. in 2003 they removed my left ovary and left tube due to the severity of my endometriosis. Last Wed they removed my other tube and ovary as well as my uterus and cervix. My doctor put me on the Depo Provera shot to help with the hot flashes. I was wondering if anyone could guide me with all the controversy of the hormones.
