Hysterectomy and weight control

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and weight control

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn I joke for my 40th birthday I got a hysterectomy and the weight I have gained sense has been out of control. I am on estradoil which is what I believe to be the issue, I retain water, am constipated, constantly stuff up, some hot flashes and night sweats even though we have gone up on the medication twice and mind...what mind. I have attempted the gym, kepts logs of what I eat, tried over the counter diet pills but currently am almost 50lbs over weight.
Avatar f tn But, I was very heavy growing up and carried a lot of Psychological baggage from those days. I lost a ton of weight in college and kept it off for years and years.....and once I hit Perimenopause, the weight battle started again and it was a battle. I was not prepared for another battle after my hysterectomy. I have had to chose to look at this as a "Non-battle" if you will... only because if I start thinking negatively about it all the time, I am doomed.
Avatar f tn He wants to have a Merina IUD placed, and Yaz birth control orally to control the bleeding. He refuses to consider a partial hysterectomy, as did my prior OB-GYN. I have been stable in my bi-polar for close to 4 years now. Noted a downward change in stability now. What will happen to me on these new ones? I'm scared.
Avatar f tn what can I do about this weight gain I getting to old and right now overweight due to this weight gain. I exercise, eat right but continue to gain a pound-two pounds a month. My health is declining due to the weight gain. What can I do???
Avatar f tn So I have looked up symptoms of ovarian cysts and one that caught my eye was weight gain. Has anyone ever gained weight because of cysts? I can not seem to lose any weight. I wonder if the cysts are causing this?
Avatar f tn I'd just have the cysts and whatever endo they can removed/clean out your tubes and see what that does. And for a lot of women the pain is thier ovaries and yeah a hysterectomy doesn't really help that. I'd talk to your surgeon and if she just pushes the hysterectomy which sadly a lot do then get another opinion. Have you had any other surgery for this? Because hysterectomy really is like the absolute last option. Well second to last, the last option is having everything removed.
Avatar n tn t know about the low cortisol, but after my hysterectomy I had facial hair, weight gain in the abdomen and thighs and my breasts shrunk. Don't know why yet. Go to www.***********.com Lorna V. has the best information I've come across yet. If she is doing a seminar in your area, go to it...she's quite knowledgeable as she has gone through more hormonal troubles than most.
Avatar n tn Is there any help for weight loss women that has a hysterectomy i exercise and eat right taken all kind of diet pills.
Avatar n tn I had a total hystrectomy at 30, now 43 I am going thru Menopause, I have already gained weight in my belly and hormones are crazy, now my doctor wants to put me on Estradiol, will it make me gain more weight?
Avatar f tn But now, in spite of all my efforts I am gaining weight , especially on my stomach, butt and upper arms. Of course, lot of laxness has seeped in due to wt. increase hence am feeling very demoralized and unable to follow up a fitness program also. Please help. Also would want to mention , I am O+ blood group. Kindly recommend a suitable diet plan (Vegetarian preferably) for me. Thank you.
Avatar f tn However for this you need to consult your Doctor. Also a healthy diet and regular exercise will help keep weight in control and also help with the tiredness. Supplements of multi-vitamins can be taken. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a total hysterectomy on April 20 (3 months ago). I had my uterus, ovaries, cervix and tubes removed due to fibroids, ovarian cysts, and endometrosis (found during the operation). I also scheduled a urologist to come in after the hysterectomy and perform a bladder suspension. I'm 55 years old and prior to surgery I had not stopped bleeding on a regular basis, so the hysterectomy was my "menopause".
Avatar f tn Only you along with your doctor can decide whats best for you ,I will say though that looking back and remembering how Endo ruled my life aside from the having to have the Hysterectomy because of the cancer I don,t regret it to be free of all of the horrible symptoms. Best of luck to you and I wish you well.
Avatar f tn I've never been on birth control before and now I'm seriously thinking about it and I'm terrified and lost :'( I don't want to put anything harmful in my body that can impact my ability to have children in the future or alter my moods for the worse. I know it's different for everybody by this is something I'm truly clueless about. As an advance society we have very poor birth control and I feel like no one cares.
1467678 tn?1370941532 i had problems with acne and hairiness hence different pills, and i experienced depression and moodiness on different pills. Nuvaring ( I got continuous uti infections from having this inside me) Implanon- no sex drive at all ( relationship issues due to that) Depo provera injection worked for me was happy with this but I'm not sure its suitable to my above conditions.
1222892 tn?1312148824 It may not be as bad as you think. I would use some kind of hormone therapy and the good news is you can use and estrogen only product. I would really start there becasue of hot flashes and night sweats. If you aren't sleeping you may have a harder time with weight. Bottom line, don't be afraid of estrogen. I would however stay away or be hesitant with over the counter hormones like Black Cohosh or Estroven etc.
Avatar f tn t usually covered by insurance and is pretty pricey and if the father and I split up and I decide to start a family with someone else then same problem. Only problem is I've heard 50/50 reviews on Mirena and IUD's in general that I just don't know yet what's going to be the best option for me.
Avatar f tn However, studies do show an association between hysterectomy and weight gain. This seems to be more prevalent in women who were prone to weight gain prior to hysterectomy. I have always been thin and could eat anything I wanted and not gain an ounce but since my hysterectomy, I eat quite a bit less (thankfully I lost my appetite post-surgery!) and am able to maintain a normal weight.
Avatar f tn I had a total hysterectomy in Jan. I weighed 140! It's now Sept and Im 40 pounds heavier! Help I feel disgusting and the weight is all in my tummy! Are there any medical treatments to help me lose this weight?
Avatar f tn I am 21 and everything you just wrote is basically what I'm going thru. I'm recovering from a partial hysterectomy. & I had severe endometriosis it's spreading & growing so fast and was so bad I have to get shots once a month that are 600$ per shot. Plus put me on birth control to help slow the growing of endometriosis. He wants me to stop having periods for awhile too till it's under control.
Avatar n tn HAVING TROUBLE LOOSING WEIGHT EVERY SINCE I GOT MY FULL HYSTERECTOMY TRIED EVERY THING AND STILL NO WEIGHT LOSE DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO LOOSE IT
Avatar f tn Since their loss, I have constant depression and swings between despair and hyper energy, unable to sleep, bad dreams, feeling okay then back in to the abyss of mental pain and joint pain, ankle and shoulder pains, osteoporosis and weight gain. My hair has grown rough and I my skin is getting age spots and wringling. I use progesterone creme twice a day and estridiol. I feel that my surgeon killed me. He just did it slowly and I will eventually die from the results of this surgery....
Avatar m tn Has anyone else had trouble with their thyroid after hysterectomy? I am 35 and have been in menopause for a year now and can not seem to get leveled out. I thought the hysterectomy was going to make everything better. Just seems to have went from dealing with endometriosis and PCS to all these hormone issues. Should I go back on the Prometrium and testosterone cream? At the time of my last lab work, my estrogen level dropped from 70 to 30. I'm just confused.
Avatar f tn t be in premeopause but i am not well at all. I sweat and am depressed and the weight gain has taken me from my normal weight and size of 4-6 to a number that I have never seen on the scale in my life. It is freightening to go to the doctor every month and gain two or three pounds. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with me. I know my stomach was never this bloated and swollen. I am not consitpated either. Any thoughts for me????
Avatar f tn so can anybody tell me if it is common to gain weight after hysterectomy or is that just depending on the medicine you're given for hormones
