Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and uterus

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I have had a tubal and a partial hysterectomy done (both 9 years ago). I was also told at one time I may have a double uterus. Now, my question is, if I DO have a double uterus, could I concieve and carry to term? I ask, because I am having signs of being pregnant and while the brain in me is certain I cannot possibly be pregnant, lol, the heart of me wants the chance again. Sensitivity, swelling of the breast, nausea, and I swear it feels like I am having Braxton Hicks( spelling?) contracts.
Avatar f tn Both the uterus and the ovaries respond to signals from the brain, and I think the uterus also responds to signals from the ovaries, but it's not the other way around. Taking the uterus away will not affect the signals from the brain that make cysts in the ovaries. And endometriosis is the migration of cells that used to be in the uterus, out into the abdominal cavity, where they can hurt and bleed.
Avatar m tn It supports the bladder and bowel. Those organs are displaced and no longer have the uterus separating them after hysterectomy. So permanent bladder and bowel problems are common. Sexual dysfunction after hysterectomy is also common even if the ovaries are not removed. The uterus (which includes the cervix) plays a key role in sexual desire and orgasm. The uterus is suspended by four sets of ligaments which also serve as the pelvis' support structures.
Avatar f tn I had my hysterectomy on August 22 of 2006, I was 36 years old, started having thyroid pains within eighteen months of surgery. Cysts in both breasts within 3 months of my hysterectomy and again a year later. Cysts on ovary, now I've been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer (papillary) at 38. Could there be a connection between the Hysterectomy and Thyroid Cancer? No major problems before hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn ) He might just have a mental block that hysterectomy is for older ladies and sees you in some way as less desirable because of that. This one is easy to fix with sexy underwear and a racy attitude. But you need to know why your hysterectomy made such a difference to him. Very rarely, a woman gets a stretched-out vagina after many childbirths and if that is the story, perhaps your ob-gyn can suggest a surgical procedure to tighten the vagina.
Avatar f tn ll want you to try a ton of different birth control pills and meds, and estrogen-stopping meds before you get the hysterectomy, because the hysterectomy is permanent, and even at 39, they don't think we can make our own decisions regarding having children or reproductive health. Get the cysts removed if they don't clear up with your next period, or if they are masses, but remember that the more surgeries you have, the more scar tissue you'll get. (Totally a double-edged sword here.
897990 tn?1248268956 Why on earth does she seem to think she needs a hysterectomy? I had a prolapsed uterus and gave birth to three healthy boys all a prolapse means is the uterus leans in the backwards position, techincally suposed to make it harder to concieve but not so with many many I know...why does she need a C section..all my babies wher vaginal births, just trying to understand...the C section may be needed for a host of reasons..
Avatar n tn Hi, I had ovarian AND uterine cancer, at the same time. Boy, I wish I'd had a hysterectomy younger! If it were me, I'd have my uterus removed in a jiffy. Recovery really isn't bad at all.
Avatar f tn LAter after surgery i came to know it was a total hysterectomy with uterus, ovary and fallopian tube removed. I was on HRT for 6 months and then she stopped my estrogens. Ater that there was gradual weight loss and i have lost 10 kgs till now in 8 months. i feel very low and weak. my appetite has also weakened. i look so bad, i want to regain my lost weight if its possible and is it safe for me to take estrogen again.
Avatar f tn m 43 years old and have just been diagnosed by four different physicians (yes, I was in denial) that I have rectocele, cystocele and prolapsed uterus. They have all recommended a vaginal hysterectomy, said my cervix must come out and I need a bladder hammock. I am very scared. I'm afraid sex won't be as good for my husband because they expressed a little concern about vaginal shortening. I'm worried I will not pick the right physician.
Avatar f tn I also have a heart shaped uterus. I have been dealing with extreme pain for about 3 years now and am considering having my uterus and right ovary removed. By the way i got my tubes tied to answer any questions about children i have 2. My question is how will it affect my sex drive and my hormones? Will i do in to menopause with the removal of one ovary?
Avatar f tn Pain and cramps worsening, as well as radiating pain down left leg, that feels like leg is heating up from the inside. Transvaginal ultrasound showed a thick uterus during 3rd day of period and exam showed uterus has moved to left side of abdomen. I often suffer from low back pain and pressure in lower abdomen. I am forty years old, 5'5" weight is 245. Began menstruating at 10, have had three children. I also have ovarian cysts on left side. Aunt had hysterectomy at early age.
351724 tn?1267537018 Yes...regardless ..they take everything out anyway your uterus, ovaries and cervix UNLESS yours is not a radical hysterectomy just partial that's different story. Sunes.
Avatar n tn I have a fibroid about the size of a grapefruit on my uterus and at least 2 smaller ones. My doctor was going to try the procedure wherein they go in and cut off the blood supply to the fibroid when she thought it was just one. Now that she has learned through an ultrasound that there are multiple fibroids, she said that procedure is not an option as it would basically cut off the blood supply to the uterus if they did that for each fibroid.
Avatar f tn If your uterus and cervix were removed (total hysterectomy) and you did not have cervical cancer then you should not need any more pap smears. Ovary removal (oophorectomy) has nothing to do with it.
Avatar n tn ( My GP is at a loss) so I now will take the next step and visit a Gynecologist. Urine flow, and bowel movement are good and not painful and neither do I have a bloating feeling. Can this prolapsed uterus cause this pain.
Avatar m tn Why would a doctor during a hysterectomy take out the uterus through the rectum?
Avatar f tn m 46 and I have 4 fibroids, 3 are embedded in the walls of my uterus and one is outside my uterus. My doctor told me I need a hysterectomy. I have some pain and bloating, my periods are the same, no increased bleeding with the fibroids. I'm scared to have a hysterectomy, is there any other way to get rid of them? Any advice please?
Avatar f tn The uterus is The uterus measures 9.7 x 4.0 x 6.0 cm. The endometrial thickness is within normal limits measuring 8 mm. Small amount fluid present within the endometrial canal which is likely physiologic in nature. Note that patient is currently on her menstrual cycle. Right ovary is normal and measures 3.2 x 2.0 x 2.3 cm. Left ovary measures 3.4 x 1.7 x 2.3 cm. 1.7 cm slightly heterogeneous rounded hypoechoic focus within the left ovary appears unchanged.
Avatar m tn I have Adenomyosis, its when the lining of the uterus grows into the muscle of the uterus, the doctor decribes it as like a uturus inside a uterus, or a hot piece of coal irritaing my uterus! I bleed heavily and am in constant pain! I have to have abdominal surgery as my uterus is to enlarged to take it away by any other means.
Avatar f tn I have to have surgery for prolapse bladder and uterus. My GYN is going to do it. He says he will use the mesh sling to hold up the bladder. I ask about the law suits with bladder meshes. He said this kind is different. Worried about having surgery now. I need to have urinary catheter, was wondering how long it needs to stay in?
18070169 tn?1463175914 I had a partial hysterectomy (uterus and cervix - both ovaries remain) the end of February. I was fine for the first 6 weeks and then after I would have occasional panic attacks, but not consistent. I had bladder pain and a pretty intense side pain so went in to be checked. No UTI, no infections in any of the organs and no stones or anything in the kidney or gallbladder. At this time I was also taking zolpidem every night.
Avatar n tn No you cannot get pregnant after a hysterectomy. You have to have a uterus to carry a baby and a hysterectomy removes the uterus. There are other pricedures that remove just the ovaries that you can get pregnant after but not a hysterectomy.
Avatar m tn I had Hysterectomy done this past year, i only have one fallopian tube and ovary, and right now,I'am pregnant, yes u can still get pregnant as long u have uterus&fallopian tube&ovary U CAN.
