Hysterectomy and ovaries

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and ovaries

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I'd just have the cysts and whatever endo they can removed/clean out your tubes and see what that does. And for a lot of women the pain is thier ovaries and yeah a hysterectomy doesn't really help that. I'd talk to your surgeon and if she just pushes the hysterectomy which sadly a lot do then get another opinion. Have you had any other surgery for this? Because hysterectomy really is like the absolute last option. Well second to last, the last option is having everything removed.
351724 tn?1267537018 Yes...regardless ..they take everything out anyway your uterus, ovaries and cervix UNLESS yours is not a radical hysterectomy just partial that's different story. Sunes.
Avatar n tn But I think that what you are asking is whether your ovaries will stop functioning and stop making estrogen and whatever else and you will begin to have menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes and dry skin. This will only happen if your ovaries are removed or simply stop functioning (possibly due to the loss of blood flow from the removal of the uterus).
Avatar f tn So now my doctor Says we can do a partial hysterectomy, removing the cervix and uterus and the tubes but leaving the ovaries. I have no history of any cancer is in my family. Says we can do a partial hysterectomy, removing the cervix and uterus and the tubes but leaving the ovaries. I have no history of any cancer is in my family. My doctor did not say anything about an organ prolapse for any long-term potential risks.
Avatar f tn Did they leave your ovaries or was it a total hysterectomy? If you have ovaries, there is a chance of an ectopic pregnancy if by some chance a sperm met an egg. Easy enough to check, take a pregnancy test.
Avatar f tn Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy usually requires a hospital stay of one to two days, but it could be longer. Don't lift anything heavy for a full six weeks after the operation and also avoid strenuous exercise and intercourse for 6 weeks after the operation.
Avatar m tn Most surgeries to remove the uterus and/or ovaries are unnecessary. But more importantly, the ovaries have many health and quality of life functions. Every cell in the body needs them and they continue producing hormones into a woman's 80's for optimal physical, mental, emotional, and sexual health. These functions became all too painfully apparent to me after my organs were needlessly removed at age 49 for a benign ovarian cyst.
Avatar n tn (Just the uterus removed?) A total hysterectomy means you would have had the ovaries removed also, and would have gone through menopause at that time. I don't think estradiol will make you gain weight. It might even help you lose a little, or at least make your abdomen seem less bloated.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had ovarian AND uterine cancer, at the same time. Boy, I wish I'd had a hysterectomy younger! If it were me, I'd have my uterus removed in a jiffy. Recovery really isn't bad at all.
Avatar n tn Depends on the reason for a hysterectomy. The ovaries are usually left because it delays menopause but if cancer is involved then ovaries will also be removed.
Avatar m tn s any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
Avatar m tn I am 43 and had a full hysterectomy 6 weeks ago but prior to that was having menopause symptoms. I went on the Vivelle hormone replacement patch the day of surgery and everything went away. Even all my menopausal symptoms prior to my surgery. I don't have any issues at all.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had there ovaries removed with there hysterectomy? If so, how do you feel emotionally with menopause and do you know how long menopause lasts?
Avatar f tn Mood disorders seem fairly common even when ovaries are not removed. Since ovarian function is impaired after hysterectomy, that may explain the mood changes. But the uterus may also have some mood regulating substances.
Avatar n tn Hi I'm new on here my name is Melody Cullivan and I'm 38 years old I just had a total vaginal hysterectomy on last month and after the hysterectomy I started having anxiety which I never had before I'm wondering could it be caused by hormone imbalance this started 3 days after I got out of the hospital but I still have my ovaries my doctor tells me my ovaries were very healthy so that's why he didn't remove them out.
Avatar f tn Removing ovaries is not a hysterectomy...it's an oophortectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus. I'm not sure exactly what your doctor is recommending, what tests were performed, or what the surgery recommendation is based upon. Ovaries can be removed laparoscopically by small incisions or by open incision (laparotomy).
Avatar f tn If your uterus and cervix were removed (total hysterectomy) and you did not have cervical cancer then you should not need any more pap smears. Ovary removal (oophorectomy) has nothing to do with it.
Avatar f tn Both the uterus and the ovaries respond to signals from the brain, and I think the uterus also responds to signals from the ovaries, but it's not the other way around. Taking the uterus away will not affect the signals from the brain that make cysts in the ovaries. And endometriosis is the migration of cells that used to be in the uterus, out into the abdominal cavity, where they can hurt and bleed.
Avatar f tn The recommendation is that the ovaries and tubes be removed and I have the option to have a full hysterectomy as well (biopsy showed nothing). 7 years ago I had a cyst removed from one breast that showed atypical hyperplasia in the breast ducts. I took Tamoxifen for a year, then had a 'period' which lead to a pelvic ultrasound, leading to the ovary surgery.
Avatar f tn A total hysterectomy removes the entire uterus. It is the ovaries that are most critical for sexual function because they control hormones. If they were going to remove the tubes and ovaries it would be total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Many conditions can be treated with less invasive procedures than hysterectomy these days. A second opinion may be in order.
Avatar f tn You really should have a follow up after your hysterectomy. Did they take out the ovaries? Are you on any HRT ? What type of surgery did you have for the hysterectomy? I had one done. I was only out a week from work. I was put on HRT the day after surgery. I had 2 follow ups after surgery. You do want to make sure they do test your thyroid.
Avatar f tn I am considering the Uterine Fibroids Embolization (UFE) procedure to relieve me of my fibroids and adenomyosis symptoms. However, I also have endometriomas in both ovaries. I am 47 years old and I weigh 145 pounds at 5ft 6inches tall. I have never been pregnant. Also, I was once told that I may have polycystic ovaries due to an enlargement of my ovaries. I was told by my GYN at that time that my ovaries were filled with several small cyst.
Avatar f tn I now have cysts on both ovaries the right being complex and totally encasing the ovary. I also have fibroid in my uterus. Does this mean a Hysterectomy?
Avatar m tn If she had a hysterectomy, she can't be pregnant now. Especially, if she doesn't have her ovaries, she will have no egg to create an embryo. If she genuinely is pregnant now, she can't have had a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn Your back and rib cage pain (and possibly leg pain) could be an indication of bone loss which can occur fairly rapidly after the ovaries are removed (or shut down after hysterectomy). But hysterectomy (uterus removal) even when ovaries are not removed destroys pelvic integrity since the ligaments that hold the uterus in place are the support structures for the torso.
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
