Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and nerve injury

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn Abdominal hysterectomy is said to be the most frequent cause of iatrogenic femoral nerve injury and the offending factor is the self-retaining retractor, which entraps the nerve between its metal blade and the bony lateral pelvic wall. However uncommon, lithotomy position during vaginal hysterectomy can also be the culprit. Please consult a neurologist for the treatment . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
1195464 tn?1279314981 However, it is essential to clarify that nerve injury does not necessarily mean complete injury to the nerve and it may be either edema or some type of compression of nerve by a blood clot or scar formation. I would recommend you to see a neurologist who can evaluate the details of your case and could better determine the insight of your situation. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Yes, I too am a victim of the $17 billion dollars a year hysterectomy mutilation scam. I have nerve pain and suspect it is sciatic and femoral nerve with electric shocks running down my right leg. Davinci robot is used by many surgeons with not enough training, and there is a problem with small cracks in the insulation causing electrical burns from arcing in a fluid environment. Deep sleep is impossible because every movement at night causes me to wake up from the pain.
Avatar f tn What city do you live In?
Avatar n tn I was considering nerve ablation of the pudendal nerve, and I found out that any organ that the nerve is attached to and is ablated will atrophy so if it is attached to the bladder or bowel, you may have fecal and urinary incontinence for the rest of your life. Also, I too live with pain from a gynecological surgery. I found the combination of Amitriptyline and Topamaxx with Valium or Zanaflex to relax the muscles have given me the most relief.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever dealt with a prior nerve injury before pregnancy in the back and did it cause issues? I have sciatic nerve damage and it causes me to the point where I can barely move. Im 25 weeks.
Avatar f tn I had a complete hysterectomy 14 years ago and now I look like having period. I had tests A to Z done and all cane out fine. I do not have any sores or dryness. Had a injury to kidney last September, said tube to bladder damaged. They said possible cause. Could that be the cause? I don't bleed daily but I notice when I do activity such as lifting or bending I start to bleed. I feel tired and dizzy.
222282 tn?1210164939 If extensive ischemia or necrosis is the result of an injury, the ureter injury is best treated by excising the injured segment of the ureter and reestablishing continuity with the urinary system. If the ureteral injury occurred above the pelvic brim, the simplest reconstruction is a ureteroureterostomy, a procedure that is indicated for injuries to short segments of the ureter (ie, <2 cm), in which an anastomosis is performed between the 2 cut edges of the ureter" www.emedicine.
Avatar f tn I have atrophied in my hand (minimal grip strength and loss of use of middle, ring and pinky) and my shoulder and shoulder blade are atrophied. I get severe neck pain and headaches. I also have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in the limb. Any comments from the forum on any related things you have going on. I am scared and have been given the run around by docs.
Avatar f tn If there was no recognized bladder injury, its unclear how a fall could trigger IC. IBS, acid reflux, anxiety and the other disorders you list are all in different systems of the body and unlikely to be caused by a single fall. A spine injury can cause symptoms in multiple organ systems but the acute injury is usually detected on CT or MRI scans of the spine. You may have had some preexisting but unrecognized problems that are now clinically evident after the fall.
Avatar f tn m 31 and since the birth of my baby in April 2013 have been suffering from sciatica in my right leg, had MRI and 2 slipped discs were discovered, one bulging on sciatic nerve- I tried physio, chiro, different drugs to no avail. I had just come around to accepting surgery to remove the disc as struggle to stand up straight, walk distance and in constant agony with top right leg- in the background to all this going on, my period was coming every 17-20 days.
Avatar n tn Since you don’t have a firm confirmed diagnosis and location of a specific nerve or injury - any treatments you are or have undergone is a hit or miss and unlikely to be successful until you can figure out the actual cause of the pain . Further treatment can cause scar tissue formation on top of an already difficult to diagnose case- and further complicate successfully diagnosing/treating you and resolving the problem.
Avatar f tn On 12/22 I had severe right shoulder pain and shallow breathing due to extremely painful normal breathing, severe upper chest pains and a trip to the ER. 3 nitro pills and morphine did not help. Vicodin for a few days barely touched the pain. I went into A Fib with tachycardia. X-Rays showed an elevated right diaphragm but from then on the emphasis was all on the A Fib and its treatment. My heart enzymes were all normal.
Avatar m tn Hi Doc, Three weeks ago I had a two crown procedures done in one sitting on #30 and #31. #30 was close to the nerve and was originally going to be a root canal, but he was able to avoid exposing the nerve. My dentist had new technology that allowed for a fitting and permanent crown in the same visit (i.e. no temporary crown was needed). After the procedure and for the last three weeks counting, i've been in chronic pain both in #30 tooth and my jaw.
Avatar n tn I know several people that have gone there after severe head traumas that have caused eye problems (lose of the actual eye and nerve damage.) and they have received wonderful results. They have neuro-opthmologists that are supposed to be the best. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/wilmer Call: 410-955-5080 1-800-21JOHNS (1-800-215-6467) -- Toll Free Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn I have mild(if any) numbness in some fingers. I do not have any twitching or burning pain. Is there a possibility of a nerve injury? Is there any nerve near the surface of the lateral part of arm. The blood draw needle has left a small mark 1 cm below the lower crease mark on the elbow on the lateral side (to help you locate the anatomy). The symptoms of pain have been on the medial side whereas the blood draw was on the lateral side. Do I really need an EMG done?
Avatar f tn Status post revision THR at 12 weeks. Still no return of motor function to quadriceps. Some sensory return from above knee to below knee. Surgeon claims a "stretch injury" from retractor but I am thinking a "stretch injury" would be better by now. Physiatrist says nerve regrowth occurs at 1mm/month. Should I freak out yet or am I just being impatient? I am scheduled for another EMG in 5 weeks. When can I expect return of motor function?
1135628 tn?1260548299 I had a complete Hysterectomy in 02 im 30 yrs old.And i have severe hip pain.I cant sit still for long or stand very long it hurts when I sleep or lie down I have to move alot it hurts so bad I havent took any hormones.
Avatar m tn It depends on the extent of the injury. At times the nerve is in shock and comes out of it slowly. However, if nerve fibers are damaged, then recovery is not possible. Still, discuss this with a neurologist who can examine you. Take care!
597401 tn?1241268686 ve been told that the difference between CRPS 1 (RSD) and CRPS 2 is 1 is due to an injury (I broke my left ankle and foot.) and 2 is due to specific nerve injury (I injured a disc in my C spine which injured the nerve roots to my arms.) I've also been told (from a different source) that CRPS 2 is generally a more aggressive, more severe form of the CRPS's - it spreads faster, and is much more difficult to treat. I'd like your opinion on the second statement. . .
Avatar f tn Sensitivity, swelling of the breast, nausea, and I swear it feels like I am having Braxton Hicks( spelling?) contracts. It is nerve wracking to say the least and at the moment I am too chicen to go get a pregnancy test, lol.
20803600 tn?1546262537 Some treatment options include steroids, injections, physical therapy, aqua therapy, anti inflammatory medications, medications used to treat nerve pain, and in some cases opiates, ablations, topical pain relievers, nerve stimulators and combinations of any of the above to attempt to keep the pain tolerable.
1776001 tn?1315065510 Healing would depend on the type and severity of nerve injury and the nerve(s) involved. A nerve conduction study (NCS) may be able to give a rough idea of the injury and the healing. It would be best to discuss this in detail with your neurologist/ orthopedician. Meanwhile you may benefit from medications that help in relieving neuropathic pain. Hope this helps. Take care!
