Hysterectomy and endometriosis

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and endometriosis

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I already have depression and i am having a hysterectomy except for one ovary. I have exhausted all other avenues except for one. I am more worried about my depression than the actual operation. This is my choice to have the operation rather then just trying another birth control method. i have ovary cysts and endemetriosis. Should i rethink my decision to go ahead with the operation?
Avatar m tn I am thinking about having a hysterectomy because of terrible endemetriosis, I am 47 and have a history of breast cancer, so I cannot get any hormone replacement therapy. But i have read that maybe it won't help. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Avatar n tn I personally had endometriosis. I underwent laparascopic surgery in 2001 and battled it for 6 years until I finally had to have a complete hysterectomy (ovary removal) and I am only 31 years old.
Avatar f tn There is, however, one thing that makes me willing to seriously consider surgery, and that is the increased risk of ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis. And according to a recent European study, endometriosis increases the risk of some other cancers as well. I have also read that endometriosis increases the risk of certain autoimmune conditions (though that connection doesn't seem to be one that's made as often). I have a family history of RA, so that is a concern too.
2131142 tn?1335648576 After the hysterectomy, CT and ultrasound showed 3 spots on liver and because they did not grow, doc said that it was endometriosis in the liver. Since then I have been diagnosed with NA Fatty Liver disease. I am now 57 and having abdominal swelling, stomach pain, nausea, upset stomach after eating (and can only eat very small meals and very bland). I am wondering do I need those 3 "spots" on my liver rechecked.
Avatar f tn Im 26 and have endometriosis anf ovarian cyst on my right ovary. I also have a heart shaped uterus. I have been dealing with extreme pain for about 3 years now and am considering having my uterus and right ovary removed. By the way i got my tubes tied to answer any questions about children i have 2. My question is how will it affect my sex drive and my hormones? Will i do in to menopause with the removal of one ovary?
Avatar f tn info/ and read accurate info on endometriosis...since my hysterectomy and ovaries removed 11 years ago I have had my pelvic organs glue together 2 more times and have to be surgically cut apart and endo excised...so don't let your Dr. dismiss you...get copies of your medical records and see a specialist...most will review your records for free...the way it was explained to me...until all the endo is excised (cut out) it's much like when you have a piece of sand in your eye...
Avatar n tn I have endometriosis, and I am allergic to latex. I have a long history of breast cancer in my family. I cannot have children, I have adverse reactions to hormone therapy and birth controll. I have an IUD right now but am in severe pain. Non latex condoms do not offer enough protection. I am 28 and thinking about having a hysterectomy, but am unsure if that will increase my risk for breast cancer, and other hormone issues, any feedback or help would be great!
Avatar f tn Like SurgiM, I also had some problems with my uterus (probably not as severe) and I also had endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, and kept having pre-cancerous pap smears. My path also showed that my lining was thick but in horrible shape with tunneling and all sorts of defects. I feel much better since I got it done as there is a lot less pain... but since I have no adrenals as well, I have no alternate source of androgens and it has been a bit wild trying to get my hormones stable.
Avatar f tn If someone has recommended a hysterectomy for endometriosis, look for another doctor. A small fibroid is not a reason to get a hysterectomy, either. Endometriosis can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, but it is to remove the endometriosis, not the uterus. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to have a hysterectomy? Here is a link that describes endometriosis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn ll want you to try a ton of different birth control pills and meds, and estrogen-stopping meds before you get the hysterectomy, because the hysterectomy is permanent, and even at 39, they don't think we can make our own decisions regarding having children or reproductive health. Get the cysts removed if they don't clear up with your next period, or if they are masses, but remember that the more surgeries you have, the more scar tissue you'll get. (Totally a double-edged sword here.
Avatar n tn I have been dealing this for quite awhile now I've tried different birth controls, had many scrapings done, I'm now on lupron injections. I've had 2 so far but now my pain has gotten worse and I'm bleeding a lot. I've asked about a hysterectomy but i'm just not sure how i'm going to react to it. I'm 28 yrs old and done w/having kids. My tubes are tied too. Does a hysterectomy cause bone issues? Will i have to take hormone supplements?
551343 tn?1506830518 I had endometriosis and a hysterectomy/and oophorectomy at age 41. Because of the hormonal component, I would also want to know whether with the hysterectomy the ovaries were removed.
212059 tn?1292938529 I've read several posts indicating that pvc's tend to calm down after menopause. I am 44 years old and have had PVC's for close to 20 years. Now that I am peri-menopausal my number of daily pvc's has increased from 50 to 100 per day to 2,000 to 5,000 per day. I just found out that I have stage 4 endometriosis requiring a hysterectomy. I will be instantly thrown into menopause. Will my pvc's end? I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.
Avatar f tn Endometriosis is when some endometrial cells escape from the uterus and attach to other places inside your abdominal cavity, and they wax and wane with your periods, and hurt.
Avatar f tn my question is, when you have a baby by hysterectomy and some of the placenta is left behind can this then lead to endrometriosis as thats what i have and now i am having to have a hysterectomy which i am really scared off. im having it done in 3 weeks time.
Avatar n tn The only way I would advocate that is if you have already had all the children that you want. But otherwise, no way. I've had endo for years. It's unpleasant certainly, and at times, quite painful. But a hysterectomy is pretty drastic. But if you are sure you're done having children, then I guess it's worth considering.
1222892 tn?1312148824 Yes endometriosis can be on the bowel and bladder for example. Sometimes there are places in which the doctor is unable to remove it all.
Avatar f tn I’ve been worried it could be something more serious but, the thought also occurred to me today that it might be the endometriosis since a hysterectomy never really cures it. I haven’t had any pain or issues since the hysterectomy 3 years ago until now. My question is, is there anyone else out there who also had a hysterectomy but experiences endo pain??? If so, was it similar to what I’m describing?? Thanks in advance for your help!!
Avatar f tn I've just been told I have endometriosis, my mom had it, and she had a hysterectomy. Has anyone experience conceiving a child with endo? Can you tell me if it was difficult or okay. I'm nervous for when I eventually do want to have kids.
Avatar f tn Lupron has given mixed results where endometriosis is considered. In some cases it has resulted in a great relief from pain and reduction of lesions. However, in some cases it has caused serious side effects like cysts in breasts, tumors, irregular heart beats, vaginal bleeding, dizziness etc. You can only know if it is beneficial or harmful if you take it. So please discuss with your treating doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn Since endo implants are usually found throughout the pelvis, it is difficult to manage the disease and there is no cure. A "full" hysterectomy (removal of the uterus, ovaries, and tubes) is no guarantee for relief since you will likely be left with endo elsewhere. There are plenty of women who had hysterectomies for endo and had no or only temporary pain relief.
Avatar n tn I also was a endometriosis sufferer for many years...You should see your Dr and let them do an ultrasound and determine what is going on...i used to feel that pressure right before my period and pray for it to come out so I would feel better...I had a full hysterectomy since I had 2 large masses on each ovary...also, endo can cause so much pain and pressure and if you have a cyst it could be pressing on a nerve and causing the pain down the leg. Keep me posted and good luck....
Avatar f tn I had severe endometriosis finally confirmed after I diagnosed it clear back in 2004...I had a complete hysterectomy with my ovaries removed and my endometriosis continued to destroy my pelvis...now 6 surgeries later I am doing better in regards to pain...but I still have pain every day...
Avatar f tn I have 3kids and my youngest is 13. I've always had endometriosis; which left me with only 1 ovary, but about 5yrs ago it got really bad and I had a partial hystorectomy. Fast forward to today, my finance wants kids. Can I still have them? Or is adoption my only option?
