Hysterectomy and depression

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and depression

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I already have depression and i am having a hysterectomy except for one ovary. I have exhausted all other avenues except for one. I am more worried about my depression than the actual operation. This is my choice to have the operation rather then just trying another birth control method. i have ovary cysts and endemetriosis. Should i rethink my decision to go ahead with the operation?
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy at age 45 due to a benign tumor on my left ovary as well and fibroids. This was done in October 2011. The surgery did provide pain relief from the painful periods, and constant fibroids, but 9 days after my surgery I started with a major depression that has not gone away. After having my bloodwork taken, my thyroid was hypo active and that was corrected.
Avatar f tn And then there are the problems associated with hysterectomy such as pelvic floor dysfunction and prolapse, altered anatomy and skeletal structures (spine, hips, rib cage placement and alignment leading to back, hip, midsection pain) and sexual dysfunction (reduced libido, arousal, response). Estrogen has been shown to mitigate some of the risks of the loss or failure of ovaries and to improve quality of life.
Avatar f tn I was in an awful almost non-functional state before getting enough estrogen into my system and maintaining that level. The depression and memory and cognition loss were scary! And I was almost 50 when my organs were removed. I hope this helps! Please post back and let us know how you're doing. I know how alone we can feel during all of this.

I can talk with my significant other about this over and over and my feelings... but I feel like I am losing him, losing control of my life, my emotions, it all... I just want to say to hell with it all and run away.... I have been with this man for 15 years.... Love him to death.... I have tried asking him how he feels....
Avatar f tn A hyst is the absolute worst thing a woman can do to her body or a physician. My physician did mine and he made a misdiagnosis. and never said he was even sorry. I have never been the same.
Avatar m tn s any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
Avatar m tn I had an abdominal hysterectomy 8 months ago, my ovaries were left in but only work off and on. I have had terrible migraines, depression, anxiety and panic attacks, hot flashes, mood swings and don't feel at all like myself. None of this was something I experienced prior to the surgery. I was told that if my ovaries were left in, I wouldn't go into menopause. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it go away and how do I get back to feeling normal. Help!
18070169 tn?1463175914 I had a partial hysterectomy (uterus and cervix - both ovaries remain) the end of February. I was fine for the first 6 weeks and then after I would have occasional panic attacks, but not consistent. I had bladder pain and a pretty intense side pain so went in to be checked. No UTI, no infections in any of the organs and no stones or anything in the kidney or gallbladder. At this time I was also taking zolpidem every night.
1381706 tn?1279898722 I am so sorry to hear about your situation all5boys, I have no doubt that it is hard for you to accept the thought of never having a girl baby. I'm sure people tell you to be happy you have 5 health boys but no one understands how you feel on the inside like you. It is possible that you are experiencing post-partum hormone related depression, has your physician checked your hormone levels?
Avatar f tn She ended up having the surgery and it went well. This was done two moths after the hysterectomy. Anyways, so after that she started developing depression causing to always feel like she couldn't breathe, lost in appetite. Weeks after the depression slowly went away, but she started developing abdominal/stomach pains when ever she ate. She's barely eating now, cause her pains are always bothering her. She describes it as "my stomach is really tense.

I have craft ideas in my head I want to accomplish. something simple. books I plan on reading and being a stay at home mom for once for about 6 weeks since I have always had to work. Avatar n tn The rapid aging in appearance and brain effects were the worst - suicidal depression and horrific loss of memory and ability to think and focus. But there were many other negative effects. Although hysterectomy oftentimes causes the ovaries to shut down or produce fewer hormones hence explaining at least some of the after effects, the uterus evidently plays a role too in our physiology and personality. Weight gain is a common after effect of hysterectomy.

Avatar n tn Hello, I have had menstrual migraines for over 30 years and as I get closer to menopause, things are getting worse. I had a hysterectomy last July and have been taking.25mg estradiol gel every night and when I first started taking it, it seemed like the headaches were not so bad. Now I am wondering if I should bump it up to .
Avatar n tn Hello, my wife had a full hysterectomy approximately 10 years ago and everything was taken out, EVERYTHING. She had a few cysts and her gynecologist suggested a full hysterectomy due to the fact that the cysts could come back if she were to get a a half hysterectomy. Long story short, she's a strong woman who really keeps it together but she has recently expressed that she's been battling depression.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with unpredictable nausea with dry heaves for about a year. Now, within the same day, I go from ravenous hunger and wanting to eat everything in sight to dry heaves and back to starving. It feels very much lille pregnancy. I had a hysterectomy last year for PMDD. They left one ovary. I'm trying to determine if I could still be having reactions to ovulation but symptoms seem to frequent. I'm also diagnosed with Panic DO and Major Depression.

973741 tn?1342342773 Who is having mood swings due to hormonal changes and how do you handle it??
2082202 tn?1396813302 I know how FRUSTRATING it is when you desperately need someone else's point of view and no one answers. I too am going to have a total hysterectomy and have a feeling I, too will feel numb. Its like, you're glad you won't have the pain and bloating ALL THE TIME, but its change and I'm not good with change. I know it is permanent and that's probably why you feel numb but permanent, down the road could spell RELIEF.
19784730 tn?1484269896 I am more depressed now than before the surgery. My GYM didn't take it seriously and suggested I see a professional in a GYM. WTF? Really?
Avatar f tn It has been 1 yr and 4 months after my Partial Hysterectomy, It took a good 4 - 6 months to completely heal. I had a Partial Hysterectomy because my Gyn said I had Endometriosis. I had my Uterus and my Cervix removed. They left both my ovaries. They had to leave my ovaries, because I have Essential Thrombocytosis (ET), (which is a platelet disorder, My bone Marrow produces too many platelets in my blood, causing clotting). I take meds to lower my platelet count.
Avatar f tn The effects on my brain were extreme - severe depression and inability to think, concentrate and remember. I had little energy and often felt shaky. I aged rapidly - lost so much hair and skin collagen. Although I didn't have heart palps or dizziness / vertigo, I know a number of women who did. Has any doctor prescribed estrogen? Finding the right form and dose of estrogen was a huge help for me including lifting me out of the black hole of depression.
