Hysterectomy and death

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and death

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Hello, A total abdominal hysterectomy removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen and it also removes the cervix. Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy usually requires a hospital stay of one to two days, but it could be longer.
Avatar n tn She feels like she is going to bleed to death at times and it scares her. Her periods can also last almost two weeks with these heavy days lasting 2-3 days and sometimes another heavy day during the end. She is wondering if it is best she get a hysterectomy because the fibroids do not seem to be going away and the fear of bleeding to death during her period is always there. Her cardiologist does not want her going off the warfarin for any reason, but these periods are getting intolerable.

Avatar m tn Most uterine tumors are fibroids, 99% of which are benign. A myomectomy is the surgery to remove fibroids and leave the uterus in place. Hysterectomy is grossly overused in the U.S. and some other countries when myomectomy would be more appropriate. The uterus has lifelong functions so hysterectomy is associated with permanent and progressive problems.

2096507 tn?1333200182 Call the surgeon or talk to whomever is covering call for him by just calling his office number and leaving a message, explaining you just had surgery and are having symptoms of bleeding and possible infection. It is their job to call you and see you promptly to see what's going on. Treated early, an infection can be cured in most cases, but left untreated it can have terrible consequences; even death.
Avatar f tn I went thru old pictures and am focusing on the good memories of my Mother and feeling her strength to get better....and I am allowing myself to relax and recover without feeling guilty about everything that is not getting done at home and at work. I am starting to get outside even if it just to sit or work a very short distance. Hang in there....from what everyone has told me, we will be so glad we had this done...we just have to get thru recovery....we are 1/2 way there!!!!
Avatar f tn Hi all. I have a history of anemia (since about 5 years ago)....It goes as low as 8, and then I feel horrible, and my hematologist does 2 rounds of injectifer (IV iron)...I will feel so much better after the second round, but within a month, it starts dropping again....My gyno says that I would be wise to get a hysterectomy (I'm 47), and hormones still in normal range (no menopause anytime soon)...so, I had labs done before they schedule surgery.... RDW 26.0 % (normal range is 11.0-15.
Avatar n tn t have a uterine lining that would thicken up and support a pregnancy. Most women with hyterectomies are considered menopausal and un-reproductive. They usually take medications as well that would prevent ovulation. But... I've heard strange things before. I guess it could be possible and then the fallopian tube would have to be removed.
Avatar f tn However, UFE is done by radiologists not gynecologists. So bottom line, that would be lost business for your gyn. Hysterectomy is very profitable and grossly overused so chances are many gyns will tell you to have a hysterectomy. I had one 10 years ago at age 49 and regret it every day. It is the surgery that keeps on giving "problem after problem." Best of luck in getting information and treatment that restores your health versus causing a whole new set of problems.
Avatar f tn I have bipolar and had an 8 month stint of "bleeding to death"...my OB-GYN gave me a merina IUD and said if this doesnt work we would have to consider a hysterectomy...im 25 so this was NOT an option for me...I have had the IUD in place for 3 years now and because it is local...meaning it only effects your reproductive system...I havent gained any weight from it and have been competely period free 6 months after I got it, I would suggest this as it has worked wonderful for me...
Avatar n tn I did research on the web once I knew the pathology and found lots of links about lumpectomy vs mastectomy, total hysterectomy, treatment with chemo and radiation vs radiation alone, aromatase inhibitors (antiestrogen agents) and started making a list of questions so I could make a better decision about what I WANTED. Its overwhelming I know. Just hang in there and take it day by day. If you would like to talk you can e-mail me back.
Avatar n tn you could hemorrhage which could lead to having to have an emergency hysterectomy or even death.
Avatar n tn I have done a lot of research and reading since this in my life. THIS DOCTOR COULD HAVE CHANGE MY DIET AND PUT ME ON PROGESTERONE AND I WOULD NOT HAD TO HAD A HYST. I AM ON PROGES. NOW AND VIT. I SEE A LITTLE LIGHT.
398893 tn?1201315707 I had a hysterectomy done in 2004 because of Endometriosis and they left one ovary in and I was wanting to know, Is it possible that the endometriosis could come back into my one ovary? Avatar f tn I'm 54 yrs. old and almost finished with menopause. Have a prolapsed uterus and need a hysterectomy. It will be done with the da Vinci robotics. My mother died from breast cancer and I don't know whether or not I should keep my ovaries. Need advice.
Avatar f tn I am 49 a single mom with three kids, one is special needs. I have been diagnosed with high grade DCIS and LCIS. I also have MS. First does anyone know if it is possible to have double mastectomy, reconstruction and hysterectomy at the same time? I'm in good shape, well other the above mentioned of course. Second if I did all this would I still be put on the anti-estrogen drugs. Yes I'm post menopause so it would be the ones that totally block estrogen like Femara not Tamoxifen.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy and the thought of any type of sex for 6 mos afterwards scared me to death. You go girl! Unfortunately, honey, but I have to agree with everyone else. The muscle contractions from an orgasm could set back your healing time even further. Perform for him now, if you can, and make him pay you back X 3 when you have recovered.
Avatar f tn I had my hysterectomy on August 22 of 2006, I was 36 years old, started having thyroid pains within eighteen months of surgery. Cysts in both breasts within 3 months of my hysterectomy and again a year later. Cysts on ovary, now I've been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer (papillary) at 38. Could there be a connection between the Hysterectomy and Thyroid Cancer? No major problems before hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn Regarding the sex drive.......While I was taking Effexor & Cymbalta there was NO sex drive. I quit taking them for that very reason. I didn't think the help with the menopause symptoms was worth the side effects. I had heard that flaxseed might help with the menopuse. Has anyone tried that?
Avatar f tn Hi there I am 42 and had thyroid and partial hysterectomy removal surgery in last 2 years I recently became very ill..vomiting nausea bloating weight loss of 9 kg's in just 3 weeks. I am having surgery I 1.5 weeks time and the cyst and left ovary will be removed....gyne said not cancer he believes after viewing CT. Ca125 level was 22.....elevated protein and inflammation and also appear high .......and bowel bleeding with an area of degregated blood flow to a portion.
Avatar f tn The insurance would pay for this type of termination of pregnancy. It is considered medically necessary for her to have her hysterectomy. Why can't she just call the GYN and talk to the nurse and see what kind of an issue/problem this presents for the hysterectomy? They usually don't charge to talk to you on the phone. Plus since it's her choice to terminate the pregnancy. I'd ask about just going on with the hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn I found out back in october after I had a hysterectomy that I had a hemangioma on my right side of my brain, I am having the headache's and at first I was having the nausea but now it is just the headaches. My question is will this also affect my eyes because my eyes feel like they are getting weak and cloudy sometimes, I'm worried that it is going to bust and I'm going to bleed to death. The Dr. told my husband if I ever get hit in the head to bring me back to the ER immediately.
Avatar f tn t want a hysterectomy. I fear the blood loss and also the hysterectomy leading to early menopause. I have only been diagnosed with complete placenta previa but will have my 20 week ultrasound in a few days. Has anyone else ever had this fear or posterior placenta previa?
