Hysterectomy and cystocele repair

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and cystocele repair

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn How complicated is the surgery to repair the cystocele and possible rectocele--is that an AP repair? Also how long would I stay in the hospital--I was given a pamphlet about these urogynecologists in Denver, and in the pamphlet they do talk about minimally invasive surgery for the cystocele with prolapse repair (without hysterectomy-already had the hysterectomy) or graft ad mesh repair for cystocele.
1840640 tn?1318613270 and she said to see the urologist that did the bladder repair and cystocell repair. I have an appt. next week and need some advice on asking the proper questions reguarding rectocell repair without sounding like an idiot. Im 45 years old and this is a very embaresing topic for me to discuss with my urologist. Thanks to all for any advice.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy, total and done vaginally, in Oct 2009, then bladder fell 2 months after, had the cystocele repaired and then around 6 weeks later the rectum and top of vaginal vault fell. I have had a pessary in for around a year to hold it but it is getting so hard to have a BM. I want this rectocele repair to be the last surgery! I need to do what I can to make that be it!
Avatar n tn , but now I have a larger cystocele. I believe the dr. would to the davinci method and give me a complete hysterectomy and use mesh to attach it to the pelvic bone. Is it better to wait or better to do it sooner than later.
721523 tn?1331581802 ll still have restrictions weeks after coming home if they repair the cystocele and rectocele..almost no lifting (which could pose a problem since you have an infant). I hope everything works out for you. Babies grow too fast, don't they!
Avatar f tn I am 42, I had grade 3 rectocele, and grade 2 cystocele repair 4 months ago. I have had sex probably 10 to 15 times since surgery, everytime it is incredibly painful. Also, can not stop taking MIRALAX. Will I ever get back to normal, or will sex always be this way and will i ever get off MIRALAX??
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy for cystocele and rectocele. Everything I have read said they have gained 20/30 pounds as a result of the hysterectomy including the ones whose ovaries were not removed. Have you had any weight gain?
Avatar f tn So the surgeon is planning to do a cystocele and rectocele repair and a hysterectomy (removal of your uterus) plus drain the cyst? Many women have a tilted uterus which typically does not cause any problems. And removing the uterus will cause other problems with the bladder and bowel because the uterus is a placeholder and separator for the bladder and bowel. Once it is removed those organs drop and no longer have the uterus to separate them which can cause pelvic organ prolapse and fistulas.
Avatar f tn would remove uterus and do repair or urologist would do repair with mesh and leave uterus. Mesh repair according to urology is the strongest and most successful and he has not had problems with patients returning with issues. Last, do I not have surgery and live with it as possibly its better to live with some discomfort rather than risk complications? Thank you for any input.
Avatar f tn My gynecologist has diagnosed a cystocele with mild prolapse of the rectum and uterus. She recommends a hysterectomy and repair. I do not want to have a hysterectomy if I can avoid it. She says if she doesn't do it then it is right behind the bladder so might cause problems later. I have done a lot of research but want to know any and all the questions I should ask before having surgery. I also want to know if a urogynecologist might be better than a gynecologist.
Avatar f tn Also, does adding a hysterectomy to all the other procedures being done in the repair increase the recovery time? And does it affect the length of time the repair might last?
Avatar n tn Most repair procedures involve the introduction of surgical mesh, and therein lies the problem, for the most part. Mesh erodes through the mucosa, causing discomfort, and can become infected as well. Many, many problems possible there. Also, repair of the cystocele can actually cause new urinary problems, such as urinary retention, or urge urinary incontinence. Oy! Another thing to consider would be a pessary - if the exercises aren't working, it's an option.
Avatar f tn Which did not work last time. Also my gp says that the cystocele has gone too far and big for pelvic floor exercises to work. Do I try to change hospital. Or ask ask the gp to get in touch with the gyno so he can repair this again. I cant wait the 17 weeks to see the gyno again. I want this lump gone and feel me again It has destroyed my self esteem .
Avatar f tn What I want to know is how long before the surgery should we use the estrogen (I have both vagifem and estrace cream)? I had a hysterectomy, total and done vaginally, in Oct 2009, then bladder fell 2 months after, had the cystocele repaired and then around 6 weeks later the rectum and top of vaginal vault fell. I have had a pessary in for around a year to hold it but it is getting so hard to have a BM. I want this rectocele repair to be the last surgery!
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to have a vaginal hysterectomy for cystocele and rectocele. However, everything I've read says they've gained 20/30 pounds as a result do the surgery. Did you?
Avatar m tn Hi, I had a vaginal hysterectomy removing my uterus, cervix and one ovary.. still have one left. one year ago. I ended up hemorrhaging a week after the hysterectomy.. I actually have stage 2 Cystocele & Rectocele. But we are going to hold off with doing any sort of surgery for right now, going to try some physical therapy. I also have a 1 cm area of Granulation on the vaginal cuff that is going to have to have surgery at some point to repair as its very sensitive and I have had bleeding.
Avatar n tn Looking for a second opinion my Gynecologics feels that I need to have my uterus removed through the vagina so the can repair the rectocele and the weakness of the back wall of the vagina. They feel it might not take a good effect otherwise. I have never had any bowel movement problems or urine leaks. Thanking you in advance for your response.
Avatar n tn bladder prolapse (cystocele) and urethral prolapse (urethrocele) and rectal prolapse (rectocele). He stated that surgery would be the only option to corrent these problems. He suggested a plastic ring thing but this does not interest me at all. He said my bladder was extending past pelvic bone during stress situations (coughing, sneezing). I am scheduled to see my GYN in a week and a half and the Urologist said she will make the surgery decisions with me.
Avatar n tn I have had 4 operations in the past 4 years including a TOT, cystocele repair, rectocele repair, ligaments redone and sigmoid colon reseciton and every time I get a copy of the surgical report and then ask questions. Do not give up and also go to pelvicfloor.com. There are a lot of horro stories there but some good info too. Take care.
Avatar f tn html I hope this helps I have been doing research on this ever since I was told I needed a rectocele and cystocele along with a hysterectomy. It devastated me and I value my health I am only 55 but feel that the doctors are looking for a way to keep their practice by performing operations with the mesh and making statements that they would not do anything to me that they would not do to their own wife, mother, sister or any family member. After doing the research I have no trust in them.
Avatar f tn If your problem is prolapse, consider a laparoscopic uterosacral suspension and anterior repair. That should be able to restore your uterus and vagina to its rightful position and prevent the prolapse. FOr aqny urinary incontinence, assuming you had urodynamic testing and it showed stress incontinence, you could add a sling procedure to the laparoscopy to good effect.
Avatar f tn I am a 53 year old female with 2 vaginal births and have had a hysterectomy. I was just diagnosed with stage 4 vaginal vault prolapse, cystocele and rectocele. The literature I have read up to this point about the da Vinci robotics describe vaginal vault and bladder sling mesh controlled procedures. My surgeon is Elizabeth Geller of UNC teaching hospitals who has done extensive studies on this procedure and submitted several journal articles.
Avatar f tn Is the physician doing your surgery a urogynecologist? What all is being fixed (there's 5 types of POP, cystocele and rectocele are most common procedures)? Once I know more about what you are having done it will be easier to send suggestions-please send more detail.
Avatar n tn Hello all. I am new to the forum and I'm just needing more of an understanding. Especially since I'm not getting it from my doctor. I had the surgery for prolapse called cystocele and rectocele. (let's you know what actually prolapsed.) I was in shock to learn that someone my age would have this (50) in which I still consider myself young. However, I had no idea that the body could actually do this.
Avatar f tn I'm scheduled for A&P repair and bilateral oophorectomy in 4 weeks and I'm feeling quite overwhelmed. I'm scheduled for the pre op Aug 19 to go over the surgery details but I would really like to hear from others who have experienced this as to what to expect, hospital stay, pain, recovery, limitations, things I need to buy before surgery, etc..
