Hysterectomy and bso

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and bso

hysterectomy

414018 tn?1268611672 I am surprised that with a reoccurance and stage 3 (even of borderline OC) they did not do a complete hysterectomy (TAH/BSO, total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy, or removal of both ovaries). I was dx with stage 1a and go to Roswell Cancer Center and when I was there did some reading as follows: They recommend TAH/BSO and "aggressive cytoreductive surgery. Patients with stage 3 and 4 disease with no gross residual disease have had a 100% survival rate".
Avatar n tn Had a hysterectomy 7yrs ago. did not remove ovaries or fallopian tubes. Starting to have lots of pelvic pain again. Will I have to have them removed eventually?
Avatar f tn The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery. The old-fashioned method is called a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, or TAH, meaning the work is done through an abdominal incision. Recovery time is easily 6 to 8 weeks. A Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH) means the uterus and cervix are removed through the vagina.
Avatar f tn I have had endometriosis since the age of 12, am now 42 yo. I had bso hysterectomy last July. My dr. believes a little bit of endo remains behind my cervix (kept that). My dr. would like me to take 3 mos. of lupron to suppress any remaining endo. Is this safe to do after bso hysterectomy?
Avatar f tn I am 3 weeks post-op after having had a total abdominal hysterectomy with BSO. Spent 10 days in the hospital with a pretty bad post-op abdominal infection, 104 temps, large bowel ileus, vomiting, the whole gammit. Now I am home and healing, but having repeated hot flashes and night sweats. I'm finding it very hard to sleep, and along with the hot flashes are ridiculous spurts of being very quick to anger. Normally, I'm am a pretty calm person and not quick to anger.
1046985 tn?1305117048 Well its now 12 1/2 weeks since BSO, and have just been put off work for a further 4 weeks minimum, which will make 4 months total. Please anyone having ovaries removed, make sure you are prepared for surgical menopause. I wasn't, and was one of the rare few that basically just had a mental breakdown. I have been on HRT for 4 weeks and that has made a huge difference, and antidepressants for 8 weeks, which are still being adjusted.
Avatar n tn I'm 38 and I had a TAH/BSO on 2/27/09. I had adenomyosis and endometriosis. I can't understand why I'm still having lower back pain soooo bad it's in my tail bone area and it just spreads around. I still have my good days and bad days yet from the surgery but the back pain just wont let up. I walk every day. I fight the pain all day and when I go to bed It wakes me up in pain.I cant even sit in a chair to long. I had terrible debilitating pain before surgery.
Avatar f tn I am not a dr but have had a hysterectomy, and a bso. also have been CL here for quite some time, kearned much from others experiences, I can say with 100 % certainty that I personally think premarin is the WORST choice for hormone replacement. Could not begin to tell you how many have reported same as you. Premarin is made from urine of a pregnant horse. Bio-identical hormones are newer, safer and can be tailor adjusted for your own personal anatomy.
Avatar f tn I am close to 10 weeks post op Hyst/BSO with a sacrocorporplexy. I also had severe lower abdomen and bladder pain which began nearly a week post op. I've done alot of reading and UTI'S are very common after a hysterectomy. I experienced a real bugger of one, which took multiple antibiotics to clear. Definitely check with your doc to rule this out. I continue to have low abdominal pain, although I am sure the infection has cleared, the pain is similar to that of a bladder infection.
Avatar n tn Also, I never used to have menstrual cramps and now the first two days, they are borderline unbearable. And, now I am really depressed because I started mid-month spotting again. I don't have great health insurance and I feel horrible that this has accomplished nothing and yet I am in the hole with my out of pocket medical. I wrote my doctor a letter explaining my dilemna and haven't heard back. Now, I just want them to take my uterus out and be done with it.
591421 tn?1219072704 Three weeks ago, I had a partial abdominal hysterectomy. The pain is EXCRUCIATING!!! The pain radiates from the left side of my abdomen to just below my belly button. I try to get out of bed, I'm doubling over in pain and I'm practically fainting from the pain whenever I stand. I've taken pain medication, however, my medicine makes me constipated. I have to take Senokot. My concerns are having to constantly take medication for bowel movement.
Avatar f tn Would you keep or remove your ovaries when having a hysterectomy? I'm coming to the end of menopause.
Avatar f tn I am having surgery the end of May and not sure if I should opt to have my ovaries removed or not. I am 46 and my hysterectomy is currently involves only the removal of my uterus due to fibroids. My OB informed me that there is a 15% chance of getting ovarian cancer. Can someone give me some of the pros and cons, I'm right in the middle and can't make a comfortable decision. Thanks.
14768495 tn?1436389209 I agree with Old_before_my_time....I have had lots of surgery thanks to endometriosis....the one I regret is the hysterectomy/bso and would not recommend for anyone as it's life altering to say the least....if I could go back...I would have kept my female organs as it has really messed up my body in ways it can never recover...I take hrt but it is no where near as good as what our wonderful ovaries do...
Avatar f tn I am 4 and half weeks post op for BSO, with one twisted necrotic ovary, the other multi cystic. I had my uterus removed 8 years ago. I to am still finding it difficult to get up before 10 am, and a week and a half ago started on antidepressants which I am only taking at half strength because of the nausea associated to them. My gyn won't give me any hormone replacement until my 3 month checkup.
Avatar n tn You sound a bit like me, I had hyster a year ago and bso, 6 weeks ago, am on hrt patch and take paxil, I also have thyroid problems and take synthroid. it would seem to me that either your hrt is having new side effects or something else is off with your hormones, Combined with an increase in anxiety and depression I would say you definatley need some blood work, are you up to date on your mamograms??
Avatar n tn Altthough the Lupron shot did cease my pevlice pain, once off for a month the pain returned and is constant. My Dr. is recommending a total hysterectomy and I am not sure what to do or if there are any other options. Your opinion and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am a 49 year old female and I've had a partial hysterectomy in May of 07...removal of the uterus only. To this day I continue to have pelvic pain and after numerous ultrasounds the diagnosis is bilateral hydrosalpinges. My GYN suggested having surgery by making a 3-6 inch incision in my abdomen and removing the tubes and or ovaries. He suggested doing the surgery that way due to alot of scar tissue build up after the hysterectomy...
Avatar n tn I am being scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy/bso. My question is, I realize that once the ovaries are removed women go into surgical menopause so to speak, but I have been on tamoxifen since November and having some symptoms of menopause. Tamoxifen works on estrogen so I am wondering if you think symptoms of menopause will change or stay pretty close to what I am having now. Thank you for any info.
Avatar m tn With radical surgery the uterus (hysterectomy) and ovaries (oophorectomy) are removed. After hysterectomy alone (i.e. without removal of the ovaries), there is a significant chance that endometriosis will recur; 10-15% of women had recurrence after 1-3 years and 40-50% after 5 years. The more severe the endometriosis the more likely it is to recur. The chance of recurrence is much smaller if the ovaries are also removed at the time of hysterectomy, but this makes a woman menopausal.
Avatar n tn I am a 44 year old female and I have been having symptoms on and off for 3 years. Some come and go. They all seemed to increase this January and I went to my PCP. These symptoms are fatigue, intermittent bouts of vertigo, intermittent sinus headaches or headaches when I am hungry, frequent dropping things, weight gain, inability to concentrate when really fatigued, intermittent tingling in hand, constipation, and what I describe as no temperature regulation.
7028106 tn?1387217145 Current guidelines recommend risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) for BRCA mutation carriers who have completed childbearing. BSO not only profoundly reduces mutation carriers' risk for gynecologic malignancy, but also substantially lowers future breast cancer risk." Since you are BRCA negative and have no family history of BC, such steps may not be necessary in your case...
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. Everything was great for 6 months after the hysterectomy. Then at about the 6 1/2 months late I started getting pains on my left side. I went back to the dr who told me he could not see any reason for the pain. One night I had a pain hit me that was so bad that it made have my 9 lbs son feel like a walk in the park. I went back to the dr who once again could not find anything wrong. I then went to another dr for a 2ND opinion.
