Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and breastfeeding

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn I had my mammogram and everything is fine, the doctor told me not to worry, but I am worried because my bust is big, it feels like when I was breastfeeding, and the milk came and they felt like ready to explode, the same feeling. Help me if you know. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I have a wonderful loving husband, two great healthy kids, a good job, and supportive family and friends. I do have some female issues and I have wondered if it is not hormonal. The happiest times in my life have been while I am pregnant or breastfeeding. My OB/GYn seems to agree that this is the cause of my problems, but he seems to think the only answer is a hysterectomy. I just think that is asking for more trouble. I really felt good on the cymbalta but I had trouble breathing.
Avatar f tn I had my hysterectomy on August 22 of 2006, I was 36 years old, started having thyroid pains within eighteen months of surgery. Cysts in both breasts within 3 months of my hysterectomy and again a year later. Cysts on ovary, now I've been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer (papillary) at 38. Could there be a connection between the Hysterectomy and Thyroid Cancer? No major problems before hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn The insurance would pay for this type of termination of pregnancy. It is considered medically necessary for her to have her hysterectomy. Why can't she just call the GYN and talk to the nurse and see what kind of an issue/problem this presents for the hysterectomy? They usually don't charge to talk to you on the phone. Plus since it's her choice to terminate the pregnancy. I'd ask about just going on with the hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn I know I should know this, but I've never had this happen to me. Anyone who can read and offer advice, it would be MUCH appreciated. My youngest (daughter) just turned 6.5 months. She is the last of 4 children. She was born via c-section, and I gave them permission to put clamps on my tubes, since I'm done having kids. Well, about a week after my last period (starting 2 days ago) I've had this off color discharge off and on for the past couple of days.
686473 tn?1227017574 A hysterectomy is MAJOR surgery (even LAVH - laparocsopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy) and with it comes very real risks and possible complications. Removing the uterus has additional effects other than just the ability to bare children, just a few examples are prolapse, vaginal atrophy and sexual side effects (diminished orgasms), etc. - just a few things to consider.
Avatar n tn what cause vaginal bleeding, and odor after having a total hysterectomy?
Avatar f tn m talking the largest most absorbent pad fully soaked in 30 minutes to an hour (no cramps though) until about lunchtime, then NOTHING until the next day about lunch time, which then usually started with a LARGE cramp that very much feels like an after-labor pain you get when breastfeeding your newborn a few hours after delivery. It came out with a huge gush and lots of large clots. Then by the evening, it was a normal period until about day 5 or 6 when it slowed and stopped.
Avatar f tn ll want you to try a ton of different birth control pills and meds, and estrogen-stopping meds before you get the hysterectomy, because the hysterectomy is permanent, and even at 39, they don't think we can make our own decisions regarding having children or reproductive health. Get the cysts removed if they don't clear up with your next period, or if they are masses, but remember that the more surgeries you have, the more scar tissue you'll get. (Totally a double-edged sword here.
Avatar f tn I have GAD and panic disorder and am getting ready to have a vaginal hysterectomy. My obgyn suggested taking my uterus, cervix and left tube and ovary. At first I thought I wanted him to take the right side as well but I'm just not sure. I am scared with having the anxiety problem anyway that it will throw me way out of wack. If I leave the right ovary will it help regulate my hormones or will I still need HRT.
Avatar n tn s symptoms (specifically joint pain and loose bms) and my menstrual cycle and was wondering if a hysterectomy would help all the way around! I have four young children and do not want to be an invalid or complainer....Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had ovarian AND uterine cancer, at the same time. Boy, I wish I'd had a hysterectomy younger! If it were me, I'd have my uterus removed in a jiffy. Recovery really isn't bad at all.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of books written by women who are suffering the after effects of hysterectomy and did not get informed consent. And there are entire websites for post-hysterectomy support. There are also some good books about the overuse of hysterectomy by some physicians. A couple that come to mind are "A Gynecologist's Second Opinion" by Dr. William Parker and "The Hysterectomy Hoax" by Dr. Stanley West.
Avatar f tn s not really the best option for me lol and my problem after I had my baby is the pill I could take while breastfeeding actually make me sick line throwing up sick :-( so I actually had the implanon for a little over two years before gagging it out to have another baby. It's the little rod that guess in your arm good for 3#years.
1816154 tn?1463430018 Have Any of you ladies breastfed and got pregnant after 13 months of breastfeeding without a period? Or did you not get pregnant until you stopped breastfeeding and got a period?
Avatar m tn I am 43 and had a full hysterectomy 6 weeks ago but prior to that was having menopause symptoms. I went on the Vivelle hormone replacement patch the day of surgery and everything went away. Even all my menopausal symptoms prior to my surgery. I don't have any issues at all.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone,I gave birth to my son last August and have been breastfeeding ever since. I have had symptoms of PPD since his birth on and off but have begun to have other symptoms also;including wrinkles (especially eye area) on my face and waking up in drenching night sweats. I would really like to continue breastfeeding but these issues are extremely bothersome.
212059 tn?1292938529 I've read several posts indicating that pvc's tend to calm down after menopause. I am 44 years old and have had PVC's for close to 20 years. Now that I am peri-menopausal my number of daily pvc's has increased from 50 to 100 per day to 2,000 to 5,000 per day. I just found out that I have stage 4 endometriosis requiring a hysterectomy. I will be instantly thrown into menopause. Will my pvc's end? I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.
1811258 tn?1316528846 t the pregnancy, it was me sitting on the couch instead of being up and around, because I was holding the baby and breastfeeding). Talk also to the ob-gyn about possibly doing a uterine ablation, which destroys your uterine lining with hot water, instead of a hysterectomy. That way, the only "part" you lose is your uterine lining. (NOTE: Don't ever try to get pregnant after having an ablation, it can be very dangerous.
Avatar f tn Hello, A total abdominal hysterectomy removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen and it also removes the cervix. Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, a procedure called total hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy usually requires a hospital stay of one to two days, but it could be longer.
Avatar f tn In my opinion, your worries are not unfounded. I have heard similar stories from other women (or their husbands/partners) after hysterectomy. It really messes with our hormones. I lost my loving feelings for my husband after my (unwarranted) hysterectomy. I don't even have the strong maternal feelings for my children. It makes me very sad and I held onto a lot of anger for a long time (I am still angry with my former gynecologist/surgeon).
7923170 tn?1412999504 So my mommy just took over my order for JCPennies for a couple outfits n a hoodie for my 2 yr... I'm working on buying some bottles and liners that I know I'll need. Avatar m tn Recent studies have demonstrated the short- and long-term benefits of breastfeeding both for mothers and children. Breastfeeding, especially if exclusive and prolonged, leads to significant reduction in hospitalization rates for gastroenteritis, respiratory infections, and sepsis in the early months of life[18]. The benefits for low-resource countries are even greater because breastfeeding is related to better infant and childhood survival[19].
Avatar f tn Only way to get pregnant after partial hysterectomy is the cervix wasn’t closed completely and a microscopic opening is there, or tubes wasn’t separated and closed in the stump. It’s so rare for this to happen. Better chance at winning the lottery.
Avatar m tn s any connection between the breast calcification and fibroids. Hysterectomy is a very destructive surgery and you don't need one for fibroids since fibroids are benign. Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption.
351724 tn?1267537018 Yes...regardless ..they take everything out anyway your uterus, ovaries and cervix UNLESS yours is not a radical hysterectomy just partial that's different story. Sunes.
