Hysterectomy and bladder repair surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and bladder repair surgery

hysterectomy

Avatar n tn Just over two weeks ago I had a hysterectomy and bladder repair. I was unable to urinate due to swelling and was sent home after six days with instructions to self-cathetorize. Ive had differering instructions as to how often etc. At the moment, I can urinate between 50 - 150 mls on my own every couple of hours but use the catheter every four hours and the residual is between 100 - 200 mls. How much longer can I expect this to continue?
1840640 tn?1318613270 and she said to see the urologist that did the bladder repair and cystocell repair. I have an appt. next week and need some advice on asking the proper questions reguarding rectocell repair without sounding like an idiot. Im 45 years old and this is a very embaresing topic for me to discuss with my urologist. Thanks to all for any advice.
Avatar f tn would remove uterus and do repair or urologist would do repair with mesh and leave uterus. Mesh repair according to urology is the strongest and most successful and he has not had problems with patients returning with issues. Last, do I not have surgery and live with it as possibly its better to live with some discomfort rather than risk complications? Thank you for any input.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy in 6/06. About 6 months ago my bladder prolapsed. It has become very painful and I can barely walk around anymore. Does anyone know of anything that to do to help this?
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for an anterior and posterior repair and a tvt sling. How long will i be in surgery. all that I have been told is that my surgery is the 15th of Sept.
Avatar f tn s hard to know if the problems are from the repairs/sling or the hysterectomy. Hysterectomy causes the bladder and bowel to drop down which can cause problems with elimination. Constipation is common after hysterectomy due to the displacement of the bowel which of course can cause hemorrhoids. And as Dr. Wanjari mentioned, vaginal atrophy can cause pain with intercourse. But the shortening of the vagina with hysterectomy (with removal of cervix) can also be a source of pain.
Avatar f tn How complicated is the surgery to repair the cystocele and possible rectocele--is that an AP repair? Also how long would I stay in the hospital--I was given a pamphlet about these urogynecologists in Denver, and in the pamphlet they do talk about minimally invasive surgery for the cystocele with prolapse repair (without hysterectomy-already had the hysterectomy) or graft ad mesh repair for cystocele.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy, total and done vaginally, in Oct 2009, then bladder fell 2 months after, had the cystocele repaired and then around 6 weeks later the rectum and top of vaginal vault fell. I have had a pessary in for around a year to hold it but it is getting so hard to have a BM. I want this rectocele repair to be the last surgery! I need to do what I can to make that be it!
721523 tn?1331581802 Once they start to mention hysterectomy, your organ prolapse is usually a grade 3-4. and it puts other organs..such as your bowels and bladder in danger from being compromised. My grandmother's uterus reached a grade 4 and fell out of the vagina and it became an emergency situation because she could no longer urinate or have bowel movements. My surgery went fine. They left my ovaries behind and they were able to take the uterus through the vagina. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy.
1563307 tn?1295052596 after the Hysterectomy it was still there and the Dr. said that could be swelling and that i had to give it some time so that is what i did..... I went in and he then told me that it was not my bladder that was sitting in my vagina but that the tissue was so week that my rectum was pushing up into my vagina....... So now i have given you my full story this is what i came away with from your 2nd post the symptoms that i have Now are.....1 Vaginal fullness 2.
Avatar f tn So 4 years later now still extreme pain, down my leg and whole hip, back, and groin on left side. 2 years ago they did a surgery to repair a laberal tear and a impingement in my left hip. Well the doctor hit a nerve and now I can’t feel parts of my left leg from my thigh to my knee. I’ve been sent in circles from PT, injections, back doctors, hip doctors, pain contracts, just getting tossed around like a rag doll. No one seems to know or they just don’t want to deal with it.
Avatar n tn My gynecologist did not inform me that there was any damage done to my bowel during surgery. ? After my hysterectomy I immediately began having diarhea, nausea, and running a fever. The doctor told me it was a virus. After going being home for two days my fever went up to 102 and I was readmitted and given antibiotics for 2 days and released. No one ever said anything about the bowel repair or possibility of infection from it. My concern is, what are the long-term effects of a bowel repair?
Avatar m tn I had a repair for a rectocele and an entrocele and at the same time a hysterectomy. The hyst was done vaginally, the repairs were done laprascopically through 5 incisions. I am still having heavy discharge vaginally. I still have incontinence at times, and at others I am constipated. I am afraid the op has not been totally successful although the doctor says it will settle down. Has anyone had the same experience?????
Avatar n tn I do not wanna have another surgery done . I have had a hysterectomy when I was 22 and they tact my bladder then and then the sling surgery last April . Is there not anything they can do I mean really?
Avatar f tn And removing the uterus will cause other problems with the bladder and bowel because the uterus is a placeholder and separator for the bladder and bowel. Once it is removed those organs drop and no longer have the uterus to separate them which can cause pelvic organ prolapse and fistulas. The vagina can also collapse / prolapse without its connection to the uterus. I'm 10 years post-hysterectomy and my vagina has been like a crumpled up shirt sleeve for some time now...very disgusting.
Avatar f tn What I want to know is how long before the surgery should we use the estrogen (I have both vagifem and estrace cream)? I had a hysterectomy, total and done vaginally, in Oct 2009, then bladder fell 2 months after, had the cystocele repaired and then around 6 weeks later the rectum and top of vaginal vault fell. I have had a pessary in for around a year to hold it but it is getting so hard to have a BM. I want this rectocele repair to be the last surgery!
Avatar f tn I also have migraines that are related to my hormone cycle (both ovulation and menstruation)- about 8 of them a month. Also, due to having 3 kids- I have very poor bladder control and need surgery to repair it. Because of ALL the hormonal issues going on- does it make more sense to get a hysterectomy and have them repair my bladder also? Otherwise, I think I am looking at ALOT of other surgical procedures.
Avatar n tn I thank you for your response, I have been feeling so lousy the past few months and did not want another potential issue w/bladder infection etc. So my plan, heal from hernia and hysterectomy, and if bladder still is a problem, get it done another time, depending on whether the kidney shows signs of changing.......when it rains it pours but all I can do is hang on to my umbrella!!! Thank you and I hope all is "well" with you.
553516 tn?1255867219 I have a very very weak pelvic floor muscle a bladder prolapse and a womb prolaspe.also he says that the walls of the vagnia is very thin and weak. They have given sone pelvic floor execrise to do. They hurt when i do them.. The gyno says that he is going to suruary in Dec a hysterctomy or he is going to a colporrhapy, Can I have the choice of which one. Does any one know what thesse opps entail.
Avatar n tn The other questions you have are best addressed by a urogyn as well because the answers you will get are going to depend on exactly what types of POP you have, what type of surgery will be done to repair them, and your unique circumstances. I had a rectocele, enterocele, and cystocele repaired in 2008 and it was 3 months b/4 I could resume sex or exercise even though I was moving around pretty well by 1 month.
Avatar m tn There were no uterine or bladder issues after my first child 10 years ago. After second child, I had a pretty bad bladder prolapse. Surgery (lift) to correct when she was 9 months old - only lasted a few months of relief. I suffered through for the next few years. 2 years after the surgery, third child was born. Two weeks after her birth, I went to the emergency room to get a catheter because my bladder was so full (2 1/2 times capacity).
Avatar n tn 1st complication was that bowel had been cut during surgery. MD went back in through large midline lower adb. incision to repair bowel. 2nd complication, midline incision became infected. It was partially opened to drain out infection. She went home after 13 days in hospital. Once home she had severe abd. pain and was unable to have BM. 3rd complication, MD put her back in hospital, he said that he thought the mesh used to tack the bladder was wrapped around the bowels.
1743340 tn?1311200996 I had a partial hysterectomy in 2004 with the placement of a mesh/sling for a prolapsed bladder. In 2008, a CT revealed a 2.5cm cyst on the left ovary and a 3.1cm cyst & a dominant mass. I had everything, including my ovaries, removed at that point. I've since underwent several proceedures (mesh repair, partial mesh removal, rectocill, cystosill, colposcopies, etc..) all begining with severe pain, abnormal pap results, etc.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have a vaginal hysterectomy and bladder sling surgery in the near future. I have two questions that are of concern to me. First, is it absolutely necessary to have a catheter after the bladder surgery? Any other options? I have heard nightmares about it and don't want to go through the agony if there is an option. Second, my doctor is planning to use pigskin to hold back the bladder.
Avatar f tn I am an avid runner who will be undergoing a hysterectoy, uterine prolapse and bladder prolapse reconstruction. Will I be able to resume my running after surgery without damaging repairs to my bladder and rectum?
