hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
873325 tn?1295461896 Your poor little girl. I looked this up and her symptoms do fit the diagnosis. Lack of carbohydrates play a big part. Has she been seen by a pediatric endocrinologist? If not, this would be my next step. Read the article below and hopefully it will help. Ketotic hypoglycemia: the "disease" Ketotic hypoglycemia more commonly refers to a common but mysterious "disease" of recurrent hypoglycemic symptoms with ketosis in young children.
Avatar n tn 5) much later in life but I have spoken with many young diabetics and unfortunately, this rebellion stage is not uncommon. After being forced from a young age to be so disciplined they miss the freedom that their peers have and then stop for a time managing their diabetes as they should. You really can't make your son control his diabetes even though I know how hard this must be for you. One thing that might help is if he could connect to other diabetics his age.
Avatar n tn We have heard of a few other situations like this with small children, and I know it must be terrifying for the parents. From what I have read about hypoglycemia, different people seem to have different types of hypoglycemia, meaning that different things bring on episodes. For some people, hypoglycemia happens if they don't eat enough carbs at one meal or if they skip a meal.
Avatar n tn Is hypoglycemia the same as diabetes? What's the difference between type 1 and type2 diabetes? is it the age of the person that makes the difference between the two types?

Avatar f tn I am 33 with 2 young children and over this winter have gained 10 lbs! I am desperate to lose about 24 but having such trouble with my blood sugars. I eat every 2 hours at least or I get really low. Does anyone have any advice on how to keep sugars stable and lose weight? I never had this problem until a year or so ago. I'm 5'8" and my goal weight is 130#. I don't think that is unreasonable, just not sure how to get there.
Avatar f tn Last week I was diagnosed with insulin resistent Hypoglycemia. I am not obese....although I am overweight by about 25 lbs. I am 36 year old female. My family does have late onset history ( my dad) but he was not diagnosed until late 50's. I do exercise although not everyday. I was put on Metformin to help regulate my Insulin and told to stay away from concentrated sweets. I guess I am a little concerned about this since I am fairly young.
Avatar f tn But I really admire young mums! It also means by the time they have all grown up you will still be young!
Avatar n tn It does sound a lot like possible hypoglycemia, which is insulin overdose. If she misjudges the number of carbohydrates in a meal when she takes her insulin, her food may not match the insulin that she injects properly, and hypoglycemia is the result. It can make many diabetic people difficult to deal with, and she has NO knowledge of or control over what she is doing when this happens. So don't judge her harshly -- she is probably horrified when told about it later.
Avatar n tn You don't say whether your little guy has ever been diagnosed as being type 1 diabetic, but your note seems to indicate that he is NOT diabetic, for I suspect that if he WAS, you would have probably not let him go to bed without eating enough. Parents of type 1 children have to watch this very carefully and usually have glucagon kits handy to revive their children if they drop too low during the night. You must have been terrified.
Avatar n tn Hi Tricia1, I'm not a physician. I'm a long time diabetic who reads a lot about this disease. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about hyperinsulism as a "chronic" condition to begin to answer your question. I know it is a devastating condition in infants & young children. In general, hyperinsulinism can also be transient when we have -- for a short interval -- too much insulin in our bloodstreams.
356518 tn?1322263642 Oxycontin and cymbalta are listed here and as these are two drugs we use in our community you should be aware that these drugs are being tested for safety.

Avatar f tn Hello, I recently discovered friable, breaking asbestos pipe insulation in my basement. We are going to have air quality testing done, and have considered dust wipe testing as well. I am extremely concerned for my family's health, including very young children, and would really appreciate any help you could provide! We stored the a/c units in the basement uncovered for at least one year, and covered for 2 additional years, using them in the summertime.
Avatar n tn I know children are curious but is this normal for children at his age to talk about this? We only have 2 bdrms so that is why they share a room. We are both in shock and don't know what to do or how to handle it. Any advice would be great!
Avatar n tn Oh, and i thought id add somethign to my last post, i read somewhere, that the insulin pump, is the best choice for young children on the go, maybe you can look into that if you'd like.
Avatar n tn stress could be another. There are variety of medications available for children with migraines. The specialist to work with in this area would be a pediatric neurologist with an interest in headache. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hello my name is Chrissy and I'm 17 years old I'll be 18 Nov 21. Yes I'm young to young to even think about baring children but it happened. Right now I'm just wondering what are the pregnancy symptom for week 1. I've been going through many changes and just seeking help. thank you.
Avatar n tn And also, when it is the mom that is diabetic as opposed to the dad-to-be, statistics show that the chance of having diabetic children is only VERY slightly higher than the chance of a non-diabetic mom having diabetic children. Type 1 diabetic dads for some reason have an increased chance of having their children become type 1 diabetics, but for the type 1 diabetic mom-to-be, the news is good. Your kids will probably be very healthy and normal.
Avatar f tn and other times lasting up to a week, blurred vision, eye pain, unequal pupils, headaches, dizziness, and loss of appetite. I am only 28 years old and too young to die. Can anyone tell me what might be going on?
Avatar n tn I have a friend, who is in her early twenties, who recently confided to me about something she remembers doing while babysitting two young children when she was only 11 years old, and I'm wondering if she really should feel guilty about it. She told me how one night, she was left in the care of her neighbour's two young kids. One was about 5 or 6 and the other was just a baby.
