Hypoglycemia without warning

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia without warning

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn Yes, hypoglycemia can be an early warning sign of diabetes, or you might have something else going on. Talk to your doctor. Tell him what you are experiencing. Then make sure you get an A1C test, not just a fasting blood sugar test. The A1C tests all your glucose for the last couple months, not just one moment.
Avatar n tn Hello AlanK We are volunteers here & not medical professionals. We do have a lot of experience with Type 1, however. I have read that in the years leading up to a diagnosis of diabetes, some individuals experience the condition of hypoglycemia. Some folks have chronic hypoglycemia, in which their bodies respond to glucose with an oversupply of insulin. In others, this condition seems to be present for a while before diabetes develops.
Avatar n tn My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least. Can anyone help me understand why I cannot control this, and is this a sign of Diabetes in the future? Than you.
Avatar f tn t drop further) my body can read that drop as a hypoglycemic episode and put out the same warning signs. Similarly, if I am extremely tired, extremely scared or anxious, etc, the hormonal responses my body puts out are similar enough to what happens when my sugar drops that I can confuse them. As to what to do about the symptoms? Unfortunately, if you don't have low blood sugar, there isn't much you can do.
Avatar n tn Being unable to feel warning symptoms is a problem that many type 1 diabetics who try to keep their glucose levels tightly controlled to prevent long-term complications start to have. A study released in England in 2001 revealed that warning symptoms can be brought back by carefully preventing ANY lows for a period of as short as 2-3 weeks. In order to do this, the diabetic may have to test the glucose levels every few hours in order to stop any lows from happening.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn I go for a walk for half an hour everyday.I had a fall suddenly without any warning and any pitfalls.I also had cervical spondylosis.I also have an extra rib. What could be the cause of the fall. Please help.I am worried as this has happened twice.
Avatar f tn This morning I was standing on a chair to reach for something and fainted without any symptoms or warning. I fell straight to the ground and woke as I hit the floor flat on my side. What could have caused this episode? I've never fainted before and had no signs that or warning symptoms, no dizziness before or after. I woke, stood u and felt fine, just very sore. I am concerned that this could happen again in more dangerous circumstances.
Avatar m tn As the above posters have noted, the shaking is a hallmark of hypoglycemia, and the provisional diagnosis is "rule out hypoglycemia". As Allmymarbles suggested the shakes are a warning, and a big one. This is correct. There are several possible etiologies. Fasting blood sugar testing is one means of evaluation, however there is another test, known as an insulin challange, that involves an IV line. Both are equally good, but the later test does not tie up the office for several hours.
Avatar n tn which at time was reasonable because she was using a space heater in her bedroom without any ventilation. however, now no such things exist. she had a ct scan, plus ent specialists and then finally blood work that showed low o2. If you have any suggestions i am open to them. Thank you. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/203150'>nausea and dizzy spells</a>.
Avatar n tn There are people who blame loss of hypoglycemia warning symptoms on human insulin, but studies have shown that the true cause of loss of warning symptoms is a complex thing rooted in frequent lows. Each severe low that is not recognized and fixed promptly causes the body to go for its stores of emergency sugars from the liver.
Avatar n tn Meanwhile, do continue the frequent finger pricks, and perhaps increase your carbohydrate intake even if simply by frequent small snacks to avoid frequent hypoglycemia, which can wreck havoc with your warning symptoms of low blood sugar. Being a little high for a few days may be safer than continuing with the lows.
2150728 tn?1336531601 Go see a doctor for a FULL health check-up. If you injected insulin and waited too long before eating it is possible you experienced hypoglycemia. It's also possible you had a mild stroke, or a panic attack, or a sudden increase in blood pressure. W/o a full health check-up it is impossible for anyone to say. Don't procrastinate with seeing a doctor, this may be an early warning sign of something major about to happen.
Avatar n tn t eat for more than a few hours at a time and they can dehydrate very quickly without water, especially after two days. Hypoglycemia can lead to seizures and other serious health issues. Please get her to an emergency vet tonight if she has still not eaten or taken in water, do not wait until tomorrow.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, I believe that many tightly controlled diabetics do have to be aware that severe hypoglycemia is always a possibility. Anything such as added excitement or activity can cause him to be more sensitive to the insulin he takes and also burn up more of his glucose so a low is possible. Frequent checking is the real safety net, and also, as he gets older, making sure he always has an emergency sugar with him for times when he may feel this coming on.
Avatar n tn Eat some protein with foods that have carbs so as to slow down the digestion and absorption of those carbs, and avoid sugary caffeinated drinks, for caffeine can be a real problem for people who deal with hypoglycemia. Some people find that they can stave off hypoglycemia by eating small snacks often throughout the day rather than huge meals. I do wish you the very best. And I wish you safety during your tour in Iraq.
Avatar f tn http://www.defeatdiabetes.org/Articles/hypoglycemia040216.htm http://www.diabetesireland.ie/view.asp?ID=869 You ask how much to raise the glucose levels. I think this varies from person to person, but I think that the solution would not necessarily be to decrease insulin, but to do very frequent glucose checks for those two weeks. By testing every few hours, he could catch a drop happening and treat it with just a small amount of juice before it ever got below 70.
Avatar n tn Recently I started passing out and my doctor ordered a 5 hour fasting. About hour 3 I crashed to a blood sugar level of about 37. I have met with a nutritionist and I am trying to adhere to this diet. However, it isn't making me feel any better. My head is very cloudy and I have difficulty concentrating. My head hurts constently and I can't sleep well at night. My eyes burn and sometimes I just feel like I am zoned out.
