873325 tn?1295461896 If vomiting prevents this, the child should be taken to the local emergency department for a few hours of intravenous saline and dextrose. This treatment is often expedited by supplying the parents with a letter describing the condition and recommended treatment. [edit] Natural history Children "outgrow" ketotic hypoglycemia, presumably because fasting tolerance improves as body mass increases.
Avatar n tn I called my public health department to ask about PEP. They had referred me to my local emergency room. The doctor at the emergency room says that my state regulates who they prescribe the medicine to and that my case wasn't reliable when it came to sources. He referred me to the public health department. He assured me that it was all hearsay and to get tested. Was that right? Can they do that? What are my odds of actually contracting it? Is there anything else I can do now?
Avatar n tn Under normal circumstances, the liver releases emergency sugars when a person's glucose levels drop below the normal ranges. Although some studies tend to indicate that some type 1 diabetics do not release these emergency sugars quite as well as non-diabetics, there is still a store of emergency sugars to help. Unfortunately, one of the things that alcohol does is preventing this release of emergency sugars.
Avatar n tn Also, if you have a severe migraine headache that lasts for over 72 hours straight (3 days straight), many doctors will consider that an emergency situation and when I have a migraine that lasts for over 3 days straight I will go to the Urgent Care Centre or the Hospital Emergency Department.
Avatar n tn You should definitely be on prenatal vitamins if you are not, but you really need to go to the dentist. Call your County health department and explain your situation, don't fail to mention that you are pregnant. See what services they have for people with low or no income. Also see if your local dentist's association has anyone who will take payments. It is very bad for a pregnant women to have cavities (if that is what is going on) because it can put bacteria into her system.

Avatar f tn Hi, Mamamoorman, How frightening this must be for you and your husband!! What tests has your hubby had done already?? Has he only been seen by a primary care physician or has he been evaluated by a neurologist or a cardiologist?? I think that the primary things that have to be looked at are the heart and the brain (once other things like medications, and blood results, and heart rhythm/blood pressure have been examined). How often is this happening?
Avatar m tn Where are you located? Have you tried contacting your local dental society for emergency treatment such as a free clinic? Possibly your pastor/reverend or other religious leader? There are many ways to find affordable or free treatment but its not always obvious how to find it.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear Respectful Doctors my Father ( 59 year old Orthodontist whom is not diabetic nor hypertensive but has general neuro weakness all over his body developing since the last 2years) was admitted into the emergency department one week ago after he developed what the Doctors first diagnosed as Stroke then Transient Ischemic Attack and then unknown due to the CT Scan and MRI showing nothing according to the neurologist present, he was sitting on the couch normally speaking when suddenly he fe
Avatar n tn t intend to read the articles, glucagon kits are used to treat severe hypoglycemia. Glucagon is injected, and it causes the liver to release emergency stores of sugar. It will only work if the liver HAS emergency stores of sugar, and then will not work again until the liver replenishes the sugar. So it is not a substitute for drinking juice or eating some carbohydrates, but is used to help the severely hypoglycemic person until he or she can eat or drink something. Good luck with your report!
Avatar f tn I was also prescribed Lexapro, Lamictal, and Welbutrin for dystymia and anxiety. I recently taperd off the Lexapro. I now have all the symptoms of hypoglycemia: tingling in lips (its constant, no break) and dizziness at just the slightest turn of the head, heart rate that is averaging 100 beats per minute (this has been constant not in little bursts for about three days now), and tightness in the chest/lung area, slight muscular type pain during deep breathing (also for about 5 days now).
1654177 tn?1319838494 Hi everybody! In the past 3 months, I wake up in the morning and my feet are numb. After I get up and walk around the numbness goes away within about 5-10 minutes. I also urinate often and get fatigues (which may be normal, plus I drink a lot of water). I seem to keep my weight down too easily these days, I eat a lot, and I only mildly exercise (walking, hiking and pilates). Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting).
Avatar n tn You need to get her to either an Emergency Center tonight or your Vet first thing tomorrow morning......You may have waited too long....A tiny Chi (Especially a puppy) cannot go without nourishment for this long....Without food, tiny dogs can go into hypoglycemic shock....Plus, the diarrhea you speak of in your other post will cause dehydration....Dehydration alone can be deadly....Do not force feed her, but you need to get liquids in her till you can get her to a Vet.....
Avatar n tn Is Epipen available in India? If not, what is the alternative emergency treatment for anaphylactic shock commonly used?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, I believe that many tightly controlled diabetics do have to be aware that severe hypoglycemia is always a possibility. Anything such as added excitement or activity can cause him to be more sensitive to the insulin he takes and also burn up more of his glucose so a low is possible. Frequent checking is the real safety net, and also, as he gets older, making sure he always has an emergency sugar with him for times when he may feel this coming on.
Avatar f tn Please go to the emergency room. You need a doctors opinion and professional treatment. They will help you.
Avatar n tn org/diseases-conditions/hypoglycemia/symptoms-causes/syc-20373685 There is something called reactive hypoglycemia. In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, when people have what is called REACTIVE HYPOGLYCEMIA (when the body reacts by over-producing insulin, which causes hypoglycemia), it can be difficult to show in a test. I have known people with classic symptoms who surely suffer from this problem who have had negative results from glucose tolerance tests. This is because there are so many factors that can contribute to hypoglycemia -- stress, hormones, activity, what foods you eat, and a myriad more.
Avatar n tn I have read that in the years leading up to a diagnosis of diabetes, some individuals experience the condition of hypoglycemia. Some folks have chronic hypoglycemia, in which their bodies respond to glucose with an oversupply of insulin. In others, this condition seems to be present for a while before diabetes develops. I visualize that as a time period in which the beta cells are under duress and are spurting & sputtering along, a bit out of whack.
Avatar f tn I see surgeon in 10 more days, but is this a concern and should I arrange to see sooner or go to emergency department for treatment?
Avatar f tn Take the time to Google and learn about Hypoglycemia and also LADA [Latent Autoimmune Disease in Adults] which is a type of Hypoglycemia and often misdiagnosed as Hyperglycemia. Good luck.
