Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia levels diabetes

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn In situations of pre-diabetes, we often hear that people have bouts of hypoglycemia. This happens when the glucose levels start to rise too much and the person's body over-compensates by producing too much insulin. Many hypoglycemic folks eventually do end up being diabetic after the pancreas wears itself out and is no longer able to lower those glucose levels. Most doctors recommend a diet fairly low in carbohydrates to avoid stimulating the already over-active pancreas.
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
649848 tn?1534633700 ve had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia... Because of the pre-diabetes diagnosis, I have tried to follow a diabetic diet for some time to prevent full blown diabetes; however, since having this test, I find myself starving and getting weak/shakey within a short period of eating, no matter what kind of food I eat. I also have Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn Sometimes even just below 80, I can experience symptoms of hypoglycemia. I believe this is usually when my levels are on the way down, dropping quickly. And exercise can cause levels to drop for over a day after the exercise... sometimes as long as 2 days.
Avatar n tn The Doctor says that all of the numbers need to be out of the range in order to diagnose anything relating to diabetes/hypoglycemia - he says that one out of range number is not significant enough. What is interesting to me is that I was symptomatic (rapid pulse/palpitations) at the 2 hour mark/the time that I was out of the range. Can you give me any feedback on these results? Was this the correct test? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn lately my blood sugar levels have been dropping low then spiking after i eat, which is making me vomit, is this hypoglycemia, or something different?
6918915 tn?1395932871 It could be gestional diabetes. I'm hypoglycemic and I have gestional diabetes. Normally, when I feel like that is because my blood pressure is high.
Avatar n tn This type of hypoglycemia does not lead to diabetes.
Avatar n tn You may not know that a dry mouth which can feel like thirst is one of the symptoms of hypoglycemia as well as diabetes. And logic tells us that if your mouth is dry and you are drinking lots of fluids, you will urinate often. I am a tightly-controlled type 1 diabetic, and the dry mouth feeling that I get when my glucose is low is almost identical to the sensation of having high blood sugar.
1662361 tn?1302762372 I have been test for diabetes since I was 12, and my levels have always been low. I have noticed lately tho when I test because my mom and grandma are diabetic that my sugar levels are from 50 to maybe 75 no matter what I eat. I snack on granola and some times hard candy and sometimes cookies. I just feel sick all the time, and dizzy and i get really shaky and, Nothing I have been doing is working.
Avatar f tn I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. The nutritionsts then changed my diet so that it was double portion sizes and everything read perfectly. Due to this it was decided that I would take the medication only once per day instead of twice.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any information on the possible correlation between alcoholism and hypoglycemia/diabetes? I've been doing research online, and came across an article that stated there is something about low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) that triggers something in your brain that causes you to crave alcohol. I've always worried about developing diabetes from excessive drinking. Then I remembered that my sister is hypoglycemic.
1654177 tn?1319838494 She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice? Note: I also finished treatment for Hep C 6 months ago and cleared the virus! I'm not sure if these symptoms could be side effects from the medications I was taking for hep C (Interfuron, ribivirnin and victrelis).
Avatar n tn He had to undergo another (minor) operation 6 months after by-pass due to infection in sternum. During the gap..he was diagnosed leaned more towards hypoglycemia. So much so that insuline dose was not required during preparing him for the second operation. Even after operation he started giving symptoms of hypoglycemia.i.e. shivering, confusion etc. He was advised and treated for hypolycemia.
Avatar f tn Even the Keotone strips you buy OTC are very accurate in determining if you blood sugar is high or low. My husband has has Type II diabetes for 16 years and his blood sugar levels are checked with blood tests. This is what the Blood Glucose Meters do, they measure your blood sugar level by you nicking your finger and getting a drop of blood into the meter, which then shows them a number.
Avatar n tn They asked if there was a family history of diabetes. Of course I said yes. On both sides. They then took his surgar levels. It was 34. I then realized this was BAD. When we got to the hosp. they did nothing for him. Now I'm being told there is NO WAY POSSIBLE that hypoglycemia can cause a seizure. I need real advice from someone. They want to lable him as epiletic. Can someone give me advice!
Avatar n tn Is hypoglycemia the same as diabetes? What's the difference between type 1 and type2 diabetes? is it the age of the person that makes the difference between the two types?
Avatar n tn It was weird, it only lasted about 6 seconds but I had to really concentrate to speak. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. Has anyone heard of low blood sugar causing slurred speech?
Avatar n tn Just from the very brief description you wrote, this sounds more like hypoglycemia to me... that's when glucose levels go too low rather than too high as in diabetes. You might want to try sipping about a half cup of orange juice when you feel this way, and see if you feel better within about 15 minutes to a half hour. If so, then this would indicate that your blood sugar is running too low.
Avatar f tn m in a position to I will take a nap. I asked my doctor to give me a test for either hypoglycemia or diabetes II (as my grand father had this) but he refused. He said I wasn't heavy enough and more than likely my condition was down to my "low" iron count ( he said 17 it should be 20??). Any ideas what this could be down to?? I tend to need to urinate ALL the time, I don't perticularly drink loads but normal amount I would say. Any help would be most appreciated.
Avatar m tn Hello, This is my first post, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong forum. OK so I'm 19 years old, male, I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last summer, and I'm using Lantus 24hr along with Novo Rapid insulin for meals because pills are bad for my kidney and liver in the long-term (so says doctor). I've been having a lot of hypoglycemia recently too. But my question here is about Masturbation in relationship with glucose levels.
Avatar n tn I don't have Diabetes, although I have had hypoglycemia for years. I am waiting for results of some blood tests to see what they may show.
Avatar f tn If you need to take glucose pills often because it feels sick and perhaps giddy you need to get your baseline blood sugar levels checked. You could be suffering from undiagnosed diabetes and slipping into spells of hypoglycemia inadvertently. Also the itchiness could also be tingling due to peripheral neuropathy often seen with diabetes. An Hb1AC could be tested to see the long term glucose control in your body. Please check with an endocrinologist and take care.
