Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia juvenile

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn This has happened once 2 years ago, I would get hungry or really hungry for that matter at work and i would get shakey internally, sometimes i'd get very warm (I have panic disorder aswell so some of these symptoms could be associated with that) As soon as I eat, 10 mins or so the shaking stops. Not all the time I can get up and go eat at work. But in the past 4 months it's happened three more times. I was just wondering if this could be hypoglycemia?
Avatar n tn Is hypoglycemia the same as diabetes? What's the difference between type 1 and type2 diabetes? is it the age of the person that makes the difference between the two types?
Avatar n tn Alcohol consumption in patients with diabetes poses them at a risk for both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. While the former is associated with worsening of diabetes the latter can be acutely dangerous. It can also increase the effect of hypoglycemic medication and pose a risk for pancreatitis associated with worsening diabetes and hence is best avoided in patients with diabetes. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn My son and his wife were recently married - he has been a juvenile diabetic for 11 years. He never had a problem with low blood sugars late at night or in the middle of the night until he married. The second night they were in their own apt., she had to call 911. In the past week when he tests his blood at bedtime it is in the normal range - he eats his bedtime snack and takes his usual dose of Novarapid and the NPH insulin.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 4 yrs old (adopted w/no Birth Family info) a year ago she had a "episode". She woke up and was very lathergic and she would fall over like a drunk her legs would not support her and ahe was not responsive just not her self. we gave her some juice and 20 min later she was fine. I took her to the dr and he said if it happened again to bring her in. 6 months later she had another spell in the morning same thing happened after a very long hard day of playing.
Avatar n tn Dear Brookies, I am a volunteer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Mom of a 16 year old who has had diabetes since the age of 21 months. I am not a medical professional, so any information that I give you should be verified with your physician and dietician. You don't mention your blood sugar readings in your e-mail, so I am not sure how you have determined that your lack of energy is due to hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn After giving her a tuna sandwich for lunch, about 90 mins after that, her BG level was 105. I will keep checking her levels. Any advice in the meantime would be very much appreciated!
Avatar n tn My almost three year old son has had two hypoglycemic episodes in the last two months ... One on 12/23 and one yesterday morning, both of which landed us in the ER ... The first time - in December - he had a pretty severe experience; he was virtually unconscious, and his blood sugar (glucose? forgive me, I'm still trying to keep the lingo straight) was 18 ...
Avatar m tn I smoke regularly. I am 29 and have had juvenile diabetes for 17 years. Smoking will lower your blood sugar within about 5-10min i find. So before i smoke i make sure i eat. I often wondered and have talked to people that say this is the same reason you get munchies.
Avatar n tn I am a high school student who has a brother with juvenile diabetes, diagnosed at the age of 6. I often do oral reports on the educating the public of Type 1 diabetes and I am to do my next oral report on the use of the glucagon emergency kit. My brother has had to use it a few times but we don't have any written material on it and I was hoping someone can direct me to the right place to get this information for my report.
Avatar f tn This is the forum for type 2 diabetes questions, high blood glucose or hyperglycemia issues/concerns. Please post on the Diabetes - Juvenile Type I forum to address your low blood glucose.
Avatar n tn If you find out that your little one does have diabetes, please contact your local branch/chapter of JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). JDRF was formed in the 1970s by parents of children with Type 1.
10947 tn?1281404252 s comments in the current issue of Countdown magazine about night blood glucose testing in children with juvenile (type 1) diabetes have sparked considerable debate. The article and Yale's response can be found at: http://www.jdrf.org/nighttesting We would welcome hearing from forum visitors who would like to share their own experiences with night testing. Please post your comments here in this forum. Thank you all for your help.
Avatar n tn He is tired all the time, urinates all the time, but only a little bit each time, he is very thirsty. I have heard that juvenile diabetes has weight loss not weight gain. Do you know anything that would cause these symptoms with rapid and extreme weight gain?
3201003 tn?1345349318 Childhood arthritis is called juvenile arthritis. It can also be referred to as JRA, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, JIA, juvenile chronic arthritis, and Still's disease. Actually, these names are somewhat misnomers. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and adult onset rheumatoid arthritis differ in some characteristics but the names indicate strict similarity. Juvenile chronic arthritis is a misnomer since juvenile arthritis is not always chronic.
Avatar n tn How about hypoglycemia? That is when you have low blood sugars, but not diabetes. There is a website www.hypoglycemia.org that is a very informative site. Maybe if you check it out it will give you some insight. If you do have thyroid problems you will feel much better when you get meds to regulate your thyroid. I have no thyroid because I got it removed. Now I take synthroid. It took a while to get my dosage correct but when you do you will feel back to normal.
Avatar n tn That being said, I have heard of many different reactions to hypoglycemia. The general consensus is that no people respond the same way. I can see where youd doctor is coming from, since your daughter's reaction seems to be on the severe side. However it is important to note that most doctors don't have a lot of experience with the day to day treatment of diabetes. They know what they learned in med school, and what they see coming through their office.
Avatar f tn I am a juvenile diabetic. I had cataract surgery(IOL) in my left eye (25/07/2011) & on 1/9/2012 my doc said that my operated eye vision is not up to the mark & der is some internal swelling in my eye so I've to undergo through another minor surgery in which they inject some medicine in my eye. It was really hard for me to prepare myself for another eye surgery that to without any local anaesthesia. My surgeon had given me Intra-vitreal injection Avastin 1.25mg+Trilon 4mg.
Avatar n tn One real danger in case of hypoglycemia when you have been drinking (and it doesn't take a lot of alcohol to do this) is that alcohol inhibits the liver's ability to release its emergency sugars if your blood sugar drops below normal. So it inhibits your body's ability to preserve itself in an emergency low. I don't want to frighten you, but without the liver's stores of emergency sugars available, a severe low can kill.
Avatar n tn So if you happen to drop low after drinking, your body is less able to release its stores of emergency sugars to help you avoid serious hypoglycemia. If you have had enough alcohol that you are unable to notice that you are low or rationally treat hypoglycemia, you can have severe problems. Any lows are thought by people around you to just be the effects of alcohol and you can be left to sleep it off, going into unconsciousness.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else having hypoglycemia (which is low blood sugar abt an hr or 2 after meals)? I'm 26wks and been having it for around a week now.How do u usually deal with it when it strikes?
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
