hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
Avatar n tn stress could be another. There are variety of medications available for children with migraines. The specialist to work with in this area would be a pediatric neurologist with an interest in headache. Good luck.
873325 tn?1295461896 Your poor little girl. I looked this up and her symptoms do fit the diagnosis. Lack of carbohydrates play a big part. Has she been seen by a pediatric endocrinologist? If not, this would be my next step. Read the article below and hopefully it will help. Ketotic hypoglycemia: the "disease" Ketotic hypoglycemia more commonly refers to a common but mysterious "disease" of recurrent hypoglycemic symptoms with ketosis in young children.
Avatar n tn hence, the ketones. No long-term damage is done in most cases. I have certainly been in this situation before, and it is terrifying. I feel woozy for a few hours and then am just fine. For children, it is more dangerous, since their brains are still developing and they are more sensitive to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and the effects of both.
Avatar n tn We have heard of a few other situations like this with small children, and I know it must be terrifying for the parents. From what I have read about hypoglycemia, different people seem to have different types of hypoglycemia, meaning that different things bring on episodes. For some people, hypoglycemia happens if they don't eat enough carbs at one meal or if they skip a meal.
Avatar n tn And also, when it is the mom that is diabetic as opposed to the dad-to-be, statistics show that the chance of having diabetic children is only VERY slightly higher than the chance of a non-diabetic mom having diabetic children. Type 1 diabetic dads for some reason have an increased chance of having their children become type 1 diabetics, but for the type 1 diabetic mom-to-be, the news is good. Your kids will probably be very healthy and normal.
Avatar n tn You might also want to ask your doctor or hospital if they can put you in tough with others in your situation, Unfortunately do to the new HIPPA privacy laws, some doctors are reluctant to do this as they need to speak to all parties and get permission to give out names and numbers. If you live near a major medical center they might be of some help. http://www.joslin.org/1083_2022.asp Sorry that I could not be of more help.
Avatar n tn IF this IS hypoglycemia, you can do a lot to help yourself by making some changes in diet. Folks who live with hypoglycemia often avoid all forms of caffiene, which can speed up the body's functions and therefore increase the pancreas' dump of insulin. Also, many hypoglycemic people avoid all simple sugars and many find some relief in staying on a fairly low carb diet so as not to stimulate the over-active pancreas.
Avatar n tn Type 2 diabetes results when a person becomes resistant to insulin and their body cannot use it efficiently, resulting in high blood sugars. Type 2 diabetes is most often diagnosed in adulthood, but there has been an increase in children and adolescents now being diagnosed. The sedentary life-style and increase in obesity has led to this increase in both children and adults. Nearly one third of the 16 millions Americans with Type 2 diabetes do not know that they have it.
Avatar n tn org/diseases-conditions/hypoglycemia/symptoms-causes/syc-20373685 There is something called reactive hypoglycemia. In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Avatar m tn Last month I had an aion event in my right eye, lost bottom half of vision. Last week I had a second event in my right eye with further vision loss. My neurologist says I willl not regain any vision, yet you state recovery is good. What do you base your comments on, do I have any hope?
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. As a fasting blood glucose result, 80 is on the low end of the ok range, but it is in the ok range. If your daughter will develop diabetes, or just hypoglycemia, there is nothing known that you can do to prevent it. You can keep your family, daughter included, more healthy through exercise and a better diet with more fruits and grains, for example, but that won't stop hypoglycemia in your daughter.
Avatar n tn He is extremely anxious , especially when on his medication in strange unfamiliar settings but does quite well at school and has lots of friends. He has been out of routine of late with school holidays and 10 weeks ago had a increase in medication to 1 tab in the morning 1/2 at lunch and 1/2 at 3.30 pm. I am extremely concerned that he is developing tourettes or does this mean it has always been there?
Avatar n tn I grew very concerned because I read that Hypoglycemia in children is most often caused by diabetes. But now the doctor is telling me that it would be impossible for her to be diabetic with those numbers. They are testing her insulin and several other things and all he has said is that it could be caused by a number of rare things. So I guess I am confused. Does any of this make any sense to anyone? I am so concerned about my daughter.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia does manifest with the symptoms you've mentioned. What a person will present with regarding symptoms depends on their glucose baseline. If her fasting is 110, 80 could be very low for her. When these symptoms present, check her glucose if you have a glucometer at home. If you see that she is low, give her crackers (grahams are great) and a glass of orange juice. But please start keeping a log/diary of when these symptoms occur. A food journal would also be beneficial.
431644 tn?1236899573 I am wondering if SVT can be hereditary? Does anyone know if it is or have children who have it as well as you do?
Avatar m tn I had just returned from a walk and went to the wardrobe to hang my coat up when I could see quite a large black hole in front of my eyes. The area was black with bright blue centre and a yellow edge around the blue centre. I closed one eye but it was still there, I looked away from the dark wardrobe and I cloud not see, but I then looked at the back of a black chair and it was there again. After a short while it disappeared, after the event I felt hot and sweaty and my hands were trembling.
Avatar n tn Get a referral to orbital, ocular plastic, or neuroophthalmology specialist. Dr. O.
