Hypoglycemia in a nondiabetic

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia in a nondiabetic

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn Dear Sharon, It is quite impossible to keep blood sugars between 70 and 120 no matter how hard you try. The ADA has said that two hours after a meal the blood sugar should be below 180, because even the body of a normal nondiabetic will have blood sugars after a meal go to 140.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have reactive hypoglycemia. One of the best websites to learn about hypoglycemia is reactivehypoglycemia.net. I don't think it's possible to grow out of hypoglycemia. I'm a teenager and I've had it since I was two or so. I really wish though!!
Avatar m tn What in the world is Homocyst(s)ine, Plasma? I had two blood tests done (not for this problem), in a span of two months. On the first test, I scored a 6.5 for Homocyst, but then a month later it was 25.9, which is way out of the reference interval range of (0.0-15.0) So what's going on with that?
Avatar n tn Lately, especially after alcohol consumption (i am a ciggerate smoker as well) I have a very weak feeling in my legs. It is almost a tickeling sensation. It goes on for about 10 minutes and happends a couple times a day. It radiates through both of my legs up to my buttocks. Could this be Hypoglycemia related or is there something else wrong?
Avatar n tn Your ped endo is very kind. In a normal nondiabetic patient when we are considering criteria for diabetes we look to the latest ADA criteria. Criteria are as follows, fasting sugars should be under 126, sugars 2 hours after glucose load and mixed meal at times should be under 140, random sugars should all be under 200. If you drink a coke, no doubt we could get your sugar up there and it would be handled fine. Now also you may wake with a sugar of 65 and this be normal as well.
Avatar n tn Hi. May I ask what the hypoglycemia test is?. Is it a glucose test? Is it best to have a glucose test after fasting?
Avatar f tn Even a nondiabetic who eats no/low carbs, then suddenly eats carbs will see a more drastic spike than a nondiabetic who hasn't been lowcarbing. These are just a few things to consider. Has he seen an endo? Or is it just his family Dr telling him to exercise more? He should see a endo, and possibly a nutritionist who specializes in diabetes. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. As a fasting blood glucose result, 80 is on the low end of the ok range, but it is in the ok range. If your daughter will develop diabetes, or just hypoglycemia, there is nothing known that you can do to prevent it. You can keep your family, daughter included, more healthy through exercise and a better diet with more fruits and grains, for example, but that won't stop hypoglycemia in your daughter.
Avatar m tn This research complements the work of Ellis and colleagues, who similarly to the analysis of Kandzari and colleagues, documented low target vessel revascularization, and additionally identified specific patient subsets at low risk of 9-month revascularization after bare metal stent implantation.
Avatar n tn I would suggest that if you do not feel your doctor is not doing enough or you have a feeling that you should get a second opinion do so. There is nothing wrong in getting a second or third opinion. I would tell you to check with your insurance as to what their policy is s sometimes you need to get an authorization, but all most all insurance companies will pay for second, or third opinions, so do not hesitate to get that second opinion.
Avatar f tn Also, be sure not to skip meals, eat a healthy breakfast everyday and a snack between meals. Many people think that with hypoglycemia you need to eat sweats but lots of foods produce glucose. Your saliva breaks carbs down into sugar so you could keep some crackers or something similar with you so you always have a snack.
Avatar n tn about getting a prescription and training as to how to use a Glucophage kit. This is essentially a large dose of sugar in the form of a shot to use in severe low blood sugar situations. Also you will need to have those around you trained in its use as well in case you can not get food and sugar fast enough on your own. There are many reasons that the body releases extra levels of insulin into your body and you may look at some of them to see if you can find the trigger for you.
Avatar f tn Went for a normal physical with fasting labs. I got a call from my doctor two days later and my glucose was 56. They were concerned about me being possibly hypoglycemic. Been checking it on and off and reading a lot on the subject but no definite answer as to what I need to be watching for in the future. It ranges from being in the 60s to 120s. The highest I've ever saw it go is 122 but that was two hours after eating.
Avatar n tn Hi, You did not say in your post if you had been evaluated by a physician or if you were ever diagnosed as a diabetic. For many people a blood glucose in the 80s except following a meal or other food/drink intake is normal.
Avatar f tn maybe its hyperinsulinemia Hyperinsulemia means having too much insulin in the bloodstream. Hyperinsulemia is a common condition in Type 2 diabetes with underlying cause of insulin resistence. It is a somewhat paradoxical situation because you can be diabetic and still have too much insulin in your body.
Avatar n tn The hypoglycemia episode followed by SEVERE leg cramps and then nausea concerns me. I have hypoglycemia episodes once or twice a week but do try and control the with diet and excercise. Sometimes I really do not know why they come, yesterday was one of those instances. I have NEVER had any sort of cramps or nausea following an episode. Is this normal? Common? Something more serious with my blood glucose? Something that will effect my heart if it continues? Please help me find answers.
Avatar f tn The dizzy sensations were more pronounced, and I had a pain in my side that I was afraid might be the beginning of a kidney stone pain. Then I noticed that it hurt worse when I took a deep breath and so thought it might just be a pulled muscle (I do have 3 kids that like to be held). The pain kinda spread around my whole midsection: abdomin and ribs. When I got home, I felt very flu-ish again and had a low grade fever around 100.
Avatar f tn I had hypoglycemia throughout my second pregnancy. I followed the diabetic diet, mostly. I always made sure to eat every two hours, avoided refined sugar and carbs (anything that's going to cause a big dump of insulin, because the rebound hypoglycemia and drop your numbers very low). Avoid junk food. Make sure you get protein. I ate a lot of peanut butter on wheat and milk. Good luck!
Avatar n tn i am a not aphysican, but a volunteer and a mom of a type 1 diabeic. I have no t had any experience with your situation, however i have researched and found i website for CIDP that might be able to give you more information. http://www.cidpusa.org/ Sorry I could not be of more help. Hope the website helps.
Avatar n tn Recently I started passing out and my doctor ordered a 5 hour fasting. About hour 3 I crashed to a blood sugar level of about 37. I have met with a nutritionist and I am trying to adhere to this diet. However, it isn't making me feel any better. My head is very cloudy and I have difficulty concentrating. My head hurts constently and I can't sleep well at night. My eyes burn and sometimes I just feel like I am zoned out.
Avatar f tn No, your levels are well within normal acceptable ranges. In nondiabetic individuals glucose peaks ∼60 min postprandial [after a meal], rarely exceed 141 mg/dl [unless one whacks out on sugar], and return to preprandial [before meal and/or fasting] levels [60/70 to 99 mg/dl] within 2–3 hours.
Avatar m tn I am a diabetic and for the past 2 days, I have coughed up blood. It's not a lot of blood, but it still worries me. The first day, I was at work and coughed up blood twice and I didn't think anything of it. It worried me a bit, but not too much. This morning I woke up and coughed up blood four different times and the first time was a bit much of the blood show. It's in my mucus whatever the reason for that.
Avatar n tn anyway, he now has hypoglycemic unawareness. It happens a lot during the night. He s doing a lot better about taking his BS more often but he is possibly still approximating the carb counts ( I think that may be where he is messing up occasionally). He also has seizures with the lows, not every time. I have to call the ambulance about once a month or once every 6 weeks. I have another son who lives two hours away and now has a baby.
6918915 tn?1395932871 Lately I've been getting bad blood sugar drops in the mornings, always around 10 am. I suddenly get very light headed, dizzy, anxious, hot, sweaty and STARVING. I think this is hypoglycemia but not totally sure and I'm going to ask my doctor on Monday at my appt. It happened here and there a few weeks ago but now it's been happening every day and its awful.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else having hypoglycemia (which is low blood sugar abt an hr or 2 after meals)? I'm 26wks and been having it for around a week now.How do u usually deal with it when it strikes?
